In West Virginia, state lawmakers gave final approval on Friday to a bill that allows hunting education classes in all schools where at least 20 students express interest.

well... what can I say... i dislike hunting just for the sake of killing an animal, but with this rough future ahead of us.... it is not that bad of an idea....

Yeah, I'm from WV and the main focus is on archery, not so much gun training. WV has a growing number of school dropouts because of a lack of programs that are nonacademic. NCLB pushes hard for more instructional time and we see the decline of the arts, extracurricular activities, and programs that appeal to kids who don't really do well in a setting that is all instruction instead of experiential learning.
A program like Archery in the Schools is great because it gives those students an outlet, a way to connect being at school with something they love. It is a great program that helps dissolve the apathy a lot of students feel towards school. And it challenges students to listen to the instructors, follow directions, follow safety guidelines, work together, and it may teach them a skill that will be of use to them in the future. Plus, the DNR in WV promotes hunting for a food source and even has a charity program in which hunters can donate the meat to local charity organizations.-
