Now that Kosovo has declared its independence from Serbia to become the Worlds newest country, plans by UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari envisage a new Kosovan security force. Cadets are being trained at a new academy based at Kosvos Protection Corps Training Centre. Arbresha Rrahmani, the first female cadet at the academy, tells us about her hopes for Kosovo's future.

She IS a hottie.

Great pod and she's hot! Whatever the views or opinions are about Kosovo and/or UN.
This is the BSO I heard in my mind during this Pod. It's The Polyphonic Spree with Soldier Girl (Audrey Easley's flute intro)

What about the new independence?

Another great article from Current TV. What I thought was really cool about this article is that on the surface it is a simple story about a girl going through a military acedemy experience that I'm sure is much like acedemy experiences all around the world. However, the subtext of this being Kosovo, a newly independent nation, and the establishment of an army being on of the key steps of nation building, added a depth and richness to the story that is uncommon on TV. Thank you.

This story has a great character, great access but there is something missing that I think NoShow mentions. What makes her story different than every other woman in any other military is that she's in Kosovo and that really isn't elaborated on. She mentions her sacrifice of her lifestyle but we never come to understand why, what is her motivation?

I like it.... I think it is technically very well made, with great camera angles, very good editing and close to perfect sound. I must agree that it would have been much stronger if the whole issue about Kosovo just having gained it's independence had been further elaborated. It was the only thing missing in my opinion. It would also have been nice to hear about comradeship between her and all the guys and if she has any problems being the only girl.... Oh! it would have been awesome to interview the parents or siblings (if she has any!!!) but those are just little things.
I really liked the pod. Good work!!! Thanks for sharing!

A great pod, I was in Pristina in the summer of 99 and can see how far they have come. The establishment of a professional military is one of the many important steps Kosovo must take to be recognized as a sovereign country and they seem to be on the right track.
