"If I'm inexperienced, why would I be such a great vice president?"

Barack Obama has responded with what can only be described as a scathing slapdown to Hillary Clinton's recent suggestions that a joint ticket (with her on top) might be a logical, viable solution to the Democrat nomination dilemma.

“Now first of all with all due respect, with all due respect," he reportedly told a town hall meeting. "I won twice as many states as Sen. Clinton. I won more of the popular vote than Sen. Clinton. I have more delegates than Sen. Clinton. So I don’t know how someone in second place can offer the vice presidency to someone in first place. If I was in second place I could understand but I am in first place right now."

He told the crowd that the Clinton team has been "spending the last two weeks arguing that [I am] not ready to be commander in chief" before adding:

"I don’t understand. If I am not ready, why do you think I would be such a great vice president?" Obama asked the crowd, which gave him a standing ovation during his defense. "I don’t understand."

"You can’t say he is not ready on day one, then you want him to be your vice president," Obama continued. "I just want everybody to absolutely clear: I am not running for vice president. I am running to be president of the United States of America."

What do you think? Is a joint ticket with both candidates a logical solution and if so, with who as vice-president?

  • I don't think it's a good idea. Their styles are just too different and Hillary kind of painted herself into a corner by making it a strategic part of her campaign effort to label Obama has all but incompetent. "All hat and no cattle." "Giving one speech against the war doesn't entitle somebody to be Commander in Chief." And on and on.

So not only has her rhetoric made it "difficult" for her to justify why she thinks he would NOW be a good vice president, she has made it impossible for him to select her as a running mate.

Her entire campaign was just to divisive for a unity ticket to work out now.

  • yes, i agree with crob, her campaign was too diisive to try and pull a joint ticket now.

Obama will not have her as his VP. (she will get him murdered... :P)

  • Obama woul help a Hillary ticket more than Hillary would help an Obama ticket.

How about we go back to a monarchy and replace this flawed, broken, corrupt electoral system?

  • obama gets the presidency and hillary retires. she doesnt run for the senate again, because all she was trying to do was be in government so she could run. EVERYONE KNOWS THAT!! she is a joke, but she will go on speaking tours and make all the dough. and billary will be trillionaires and no one will care about them anymore. i never did! he allowed Rhawandan genocide and liberian genocide and sierra leone genocide and bosnian genocide occur! yea at three am, hillary will answer the phone and say, well who is dying?...umm hmm..well im going back to sleep! and bill will be like...hey baby, they used to do it to me al the time too, just cut off the ringer, thats what i always did!

  • ok, i would put a term limit on it though..

i pick Al Gore to be my king, and then he can pick his successor...

and so on... for 100 years, and then back to democracy again....

and maybe true democracy, not this imitation which functions (or disfunctions) today as our government

that's if, we are still existing by then... :P

  • Al Gore as king? That would increase the search terms for "regicide" on Google.

  • Having been a 100% Clinton backer at the beginning of these proceedings, I now absolutely dread her being allowed anywhere near the WhiteHouse.

No, Clinton/Obama is outright silly and I cannot see Obama/Clinton coming to pass now.

I'd love to see Obama/Edwards but it's unlikely. Clinton seems to favour McCain/Clinton.

  • Hillary is a Monster and Bitch. She will do whatever it takes to steal the nomination no matter how much damage she does to the party. I didn't use to feel that way. I used to think that either would make a great president, now I think she will suck as president. She is petulant and conniving. She is two faced. She stoops to new lows in effort to do nothing more than tarnish her opponent's image and whine about the they states conduct there elections (when it doesn't suit her.) She believes in changing the rules half through her losing campaign, she advocates overturning the voters choices when it helps her, she suggests that eve elected delegates can be coerced onto changing their votes at the convention.

  • you know the funny thing about hillary? her base! I mean no one on here by and large is in her base because we all have tv's and computers and she only can attract, hillbilies and broke asses! its funny how the news reports it.."hillary seems to have the broad support of the 'less educated' ( i.e. STUPID PEOPLE) and the older (old ass grandma's and grandpa's that like to call asians JAPS and refer to any non white person as COLOURED or insert your geographically, or derrogatory pronoun- n**ger..ex..plain n**ger or sandn**ger or yellown**ger..etc) generation that for some reason wont die off fast enough!!

its funny that when she goes to rally's she has to use small words like "im gon go own tuh worshing-tuhn tuh be duh prezidint, and whin eye dew, ey mo' git ya'll all sum lawz in stuff!!" and they are all like GIT ER DUN HILLREE!!!

obama is like...well as I stand in a most conciliatory mannor, i would like to confabulate my position on the appropriate issues, not withstanding...etc..

gotta love it that us po' black people whom are the unfortunate owners of the bell curve stereotype with out small brains and limited mental capacity, are infact too smart for hillary's constituancy!

    tea and crumpets anyone?

  • McCain would still be worse, though lately I'm thinking "not much."
    dndobson
  • I have hpv
    sorry
    nattykr
  • I take it you dont like hilary
but hwats this about 'angry white menopausal women'? did she promise free health care?
    nattykr
  • McCain could actually be a lot worse, and here's why...

There exists a condition loosely referred to as the 'erosion of expectation', in which people are faced with crap, and they get used to it. They think "well, it could be worse" and think of ways to justify putting up with crap. Then when it *does* get worse there is an actual expectation of that worse state because folks have already considered it.
Now, because people expect it they [mostly subconsciously] strive to *cause* it. It takes something truly incredible to pull people out of that mindset and show them that not only is something better really much much better, but also that it is possible and normal.

McCain is NOT that 'something incredible'. He is a goon who has sold out every idea or moral he has ever held in order to secure nomination. He is not even running as himself - he is running as what he thinks his party will find acceptable. And that includes the horrifically flawed existing policies of BushCo.

    but it gets worse.

McCain actually believes he can win Wars. He clearly wants to start more just to prove it. He also, by continual admission, knows *nothing* about running an economy. Here goes the erosion.

We have a potential President who is in two major senses actively even worse than Bush. BUsh has never believed he could 'win' in Iraq. He just didn't give a shit either way, getting in was the only objective.
Bush, likewise, does stick to his own ideas, even in the face of things like overwhelming evidence and plain old logic or thought. McCain changes his constantly.

George W. Bush will go down in history as the worst President the US ever had. Yet.

I really really badly do not want to find out if McCain can top him.

  • The more I look at this shitty situation, the clearer it becomes that Barack Obama is the last best hope for a US Admin that has policies and takes actions that can be even vaguely described as sane.

and now it looks like we have Republicans using their spare votes to boost Clinton.

Time to get everyone you know voting, kids.
    undeadbydawn
  • It's only our government if we keep working at it. A lack of civics education and a general complacency I won't blame on television (cause I love it too) has allowed it to be bought out from under us. Get invovled, stay involved, voting is not enough, but it's damn good start.

  • if mccain wins, i tell you, there will be a coup! there would have to be...since its not against the law yet....if he was elected....there should be some domestic umm...realignment! yea thats the ticket!!
    okinawanmajik
  • I'm still for Hillary. Label me as you will. The Clinton/Obama ticket isn't as far-fetched an idea when you see Bush reluctantly endorsing McCain as an insurance policy to keep a Republican in office. If that can happen, anything's possible. Obama may change his tune yet.

  • No way,do I want to see Obama as vice president! I understand why the younger generation wants someone their age to be president, but, they don't realize that we really need someone more mature and educated in the technique of running a country. No offense to the younger generation, but, experience and wisdom is a good classification to have to lead a nation. I know when I was young, I wanted someone my age to be president. Thus we had John Kennedy. Look what happen. I feel that Hilary has the knowledge and the compassion to lead this country in the right direction and should pick her vice presidential candidate to be someone as educated as she is.

  • Here's his speech in which he addresses the Clinton's suggestion of a 'Dream Ticket' with him as #2. Who will gain from this exchange?
    abbym0308
  • To answer his question: ... to get experience? To show you put your country before your ego? Obviously neither of them do.
    JanforGore
  • Jan? As much as I agree with you (and that's quite a lot),
Ego trumps all. The first experienced government office holder that speaks in terms of "We, the People" instead of "I did this, but I won't do that" will show humility, a rarely used attribute.

  • I think it would benefit the democrats if both Clinton and Obama were on the same team, however I believe that whoever has the most votes and winnings should be running for president. If it is Obama than he should and if it Clinton than she should. This whole experience..is crap..what did it do for Bush. Obama has been an active memeber of society and even though he doesnt have more experience with international events, he should be given a chance to see what he can do. We can not keep nominating the same types of people to office if we want a change. What has Bush done for us? Both are great people for president. Usually when new faces come into play, thats when something gets done.

  • Uhhhh no and no...

I've already determined that if Senator Obama does not win the nomination (first on a ballot only), I'm voting for McCain. After 8 years of Clinton, a near 8 years of Bush... come on already, a joint ticket?
  • Huntre: Well, they are "cousins."
    JanforGore
  • I think Obama brings John Edwards back as his V.P. and in November MSNBC will call McCain the loser once 2% of the votes come in. Domination.
