Feels quite strange to see MTV investing money and production effort warning about a police state... or this wasn't this their intention?
Wasn't MTV the one trying to stuff Britney Spears into our minds?
Quite confusing, just guessing who put money into this short and why.
Gives me that strange feeling similar to the one i get when W. Bush speaks about peace and freedom ...

MTV blows anyway. Those corporate hogs are just trying to brainwash us into believing our country is going to hell. Oh wait, it is! Looks like MTV is doing something right for once. Now if they could just stop with all the sex-based, stereotyped reality shows that demean and degrade our perceptions of each other.
Hey MTV! We are human beings with a personality, heart, and life! We are not superficial, over sexed, immature douchebags like the ones that star in your drama saturated reality shows. -
yeah. i think that the effects of the MTV brainwashing through music videos and reality shows is massive.
that's why i feel so weird when they stand out for something right ... probably to mess ideas even more?
I also do not like how hip hop videos try to brainwash african-americans into spending any money they have into cars or luxury items instead of investing or saving them ... -
wow is MTV still on? i mean it took forever to get hip hop on there. it cancelled Yo' MTV raps ( the greatest show ever!!) it cancelled siffle and olley, and they turned the roadrules into a survivor POS...casting people off. just let them stay into the car and fart and shit themselves to death!
after Pedro died of AIDS...all the realworlds and roadrules' sucked. its all pedro's fault!
We are in a police state! as for af americans not investing...you are absolutely right......but last year i made $65k in investments...so i can take off for a little bit and go to lawschool...so that doesnt apply to me...but i believe that you are right!
the only MTV channel that plays music is the MTV Tres the spanish one...and i wish they would STOP playing music...REGGETON is SHIT!! it was cool when Daddy Yankee was the only one...but now....kak..ka kak kak..kak. ka kak kak....its annoying!-

Sad thing is the vast majority of the "freethinkers" will take and run with it as gospel. Hell why wouldn't MTV continue stupid ass stunts like this, if they can take a worthless retard like obama and put him get into the whitehouse with their "socialist zombie vote" why wouldn't they keep puking up their ridiculous opinions. As long as people keep buying this ridiculous garbage they will keep selling it.

I'm sorry, L.Ex,. You said "freethinkers" like it's a bad thing to think...freely. History has proven that something like this can happen, over and over again. It's not completely unrealistic to imagine, especially in these times...and to your eloquent point about Obama being a worthless retard, give me a retard over a manipulative, fake, banshee-bitch any day. Yes, I said it! -
DOH!!!!!!!!!! she talked about yo' momma!! oohhhhh man i wouldnt take that!!!
hahah!!
but seriously, she is pretty scary!-

Don't worry, I'm no hitlary fan either, I think both of them are pathetic. Socialized EVERYTHING is their platform. I'd take hitlary over obama ONLY b/c I think if America were attacked again she would actually fight back. Not only does she want to be the 1st woman president I'm pretty sure she has a hard on to declare the 1st war, drop the 1st nuke, etc. She just wants to throw as many "1st's" as possible after her name. She'll say or do anything to get into the whitehouse. I'll be voting for ANYONE but those 2, regardless of who wins the dem nomination.

you dont think obama wouldnt attack? please, i think obama moreso than any other president, would be the one president to call another president himself, and say...stop or in 15 mins thats your ass. and if not, i think he might lay an incredible smackdown on them. and say, look I called you myself so you cant say I didnt warn you. and I think he would call the other leaders in the region and say look, either you can deal with it, today and get me assurances that it happened, or Im gona jack that mutherfucker!!
hillary would just attack someone and most likely it will be the wrong person. and be like whoops, well at least i acted!! hee hee!
plus i think obama can get the isreali palestinian thing done. himself. i wish someone would say, look, either deal with this now, or you get no more money from us at all, ever!! if only politicians had the balls to stand up to the isreali guilt machine! or better yet, declare the west bank and gaza no fly zones...and bomb isreali airforce bases when they bomb apartment buildings that house families!
kudos!-

is this a warning or a way to desensitize or prepare us to the idea?

"1st war, drop the 1st nuke, etc. She just wants to throw as many "1st's" as possible"
Obvious point here.
theyve all been done. First and second nuke dropping was in 1945 - Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.-

Don't be fooled, this is MTV which is owned by Viacom, one of the big media conglomerates. MTV does not do things out of the kindness of heart, they're usually hunting for advertising-revenue or data-mining social demographics (of course, to better direct ads at you).
The television ad is obviously sensationalist and full of shock, an attention grabber basically. This is probably the first ad in a campaign of viral advertising to push their website, think.mtv.com.
Feel free to checkout think.mtv.com, it's basically a web2.0 social-network for political fans. This site seems to appeal towards young individuals who are interested in the presidential races or who are active web2.0 campaigners. The site also features many of the topics being hyped by this years presidential candidates.
think.mtv.com also allows visitors to "get involved" by giving them exactly four choices:
* Register to vote.
* Sign a Petition.
* Contact elected representatives.
* Volunteer in your area (through volunteermatch.com).
Not a very imaginative list of tactics when it comes to grass-roots activism. I would wager that this is just another attempt by MTV to understand emerging social demographics in order to better sell them things.
My personal advice, don't expect hope or change from a giant media conglomerate. Don't merely vote every 4 years, then do nothing and expect life to improve. Instead, get involved with local groups who are tackling issues important to your area.-

im confused about your position on this, obviously you dislike MTV but is this post about MTV or the ad?
-
it's not really about liking or disliking MTV or any other network, it's about understanding what are the interests behind any of them and most of all understand what they want to do with our "brains".
It's all about money, power and people manipulation.
MTV in particular has this quite confusing strategy of making some very intelligent and high quality campaigns on awareness, environment etc. and right after that try to fill you brain with garbage. -
"We are bombarded by prepackaged and reified representations of the world that usurp consciousness and preempt democratic critique, and it is to the overturning and dismantling of these alienating objects that, as C. Wright Mills put it so correctly, the intellectual humanists work ought to be devoted...
None of this can be done easily. In the first place, the prepackaged information that dominates our patterns of thought (the media, advertising, official declarations, and ideological political argument designed to persuade or to lull into submission, not to stimulate thought and engage the intellect) tends to fit into short, telegraphic forms. CNN and the New York Times present information in headlines or sound bites, which are often followed by slightly longer periods of information whose stated purpose is to tell us what is happening 'in reality.' All the choices, exclusions, and emphases--to say nothing of the history of the subject at hand--are invisible, dismissed as irrelevant."

I haven't seen MTV do something like this since the Reagan years. I wonder what brought it about and if more are coming as a series?
-
I want my Mtvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv. Video killed the radio Star. Ipod needs to kill Mtv. Screw their politics. Oh, Mtv owns BET.
-
I dont think they were warning about a police state. They were trying to get people to think about the Holocaust. And how does a police state equate to Britney Spears?

Despite all the shit that pseudo intellectuals talk about Mtv, they always have had a knack for producing great things. Yea, it's not the age of "I want my Mtv", liquid televion or even Jimmy the cab driver...but they still know how to produce some great stuff. Yea, its capitalism, yea its commercialism....welcome to America assholes.
Ok, that was my answer for all of the "I hate Mtv people"
This piece is really well made, great way to get a message across, and proves you can still say a lot in :30 seconds-

Yeah i agree, MTV are the best at producing high quality stuff when they want. Just think about motion graphics. Can't think about motion graphics if MTV did not exist.
I also agree that probably their primary intention was getting people to think about Holocaust, but when you see what's happening now in the US as human rights are concerned Police State is the first thing popping at your mind when you see this one.
And no, there's no equation between a well produced awareness ad and Britney Spears along with stupid reality shows, that's the point.
It's like as MTV has got two opposing souls, the problem is we do not know which is the fake one. -
Martial Law! Come on folks, when a stupid network produces stupid crap 364 days of the year and decides to pick one day to do something wonderful, they are up to something! Gee-wez.
-
I think the nasty comment is targeted at my comment, not JustVisiting's, but either way, let's tone it down, my statement was more sarcasm than anything else, didn't mean to actually offend anyone. Like Varude stated, Mtv has been highly influential in media and design, and therefore I might have a different opinion than someone else. But getting this worked up about a channel on cable television seems like some misplaced or projected anger. It's just television.

Uh, mtv haters, you get a life. oh, and assholes. Yeah misplaced anger yourself. You got worked-up so now I am ticked.

in response to "liberal_extinction" and quouted: "Socialized EVERYTHING is their platform."
I would take socialized medicine over a pointless war.
But I hate the arguments that if we create socialized medicine and health care we'll be communist. That fear is no longer existent. This isn't the 40's / 50's communist fear era.
1. We have other social services. Public schooling, public housing, welfare, post office, police department, fire department, library, etc. We aren't communist.
2. Our counterparts (UK, France, Canada) all have socialized medicine, and they have a higher standard of living as well as a higher life expectancy. and they aren't communist.
Just keep those things in mind.

Uh, i would pick socialized medicine over a pointless war. But where did you get communist from. I simply stated Mtv produces crap 99% of the time. And, on another note I do like the commercial, I just think the rest of the stuff they produce is "pointless".
-
I agree with your points there varude but i think that the ad campaigns are more of a public service position, something that MTV has had a great history of producing.

what ever happened to "Rock the Vote". And, "i still want my mtv"!
-
we need to take mtv back!! i used to love watching the early 90's MTV, now its a bunch of old dinosaurs like viacom. brainwashing our youth with sexually perveted reality shows and mtv cribs making us want what a rap star is driving blah blah blah... pay no mind to this add. mTV is DEAD
-
MTV owns BET!? That's like saying getting kicked in the face is better than getting socked in the guy.
They both suck.
I havent watched MTV in a long time. I think I saw a few episodes of Rob and Big. It was kinda funny, but I never really liked reality shows.
