I have to say, I'm totally fascinated by the world and was excited to see it, but the preview worried me. It looked like it could go either way, really interesting or a lot of grunting and loin cloths...and it sounds like my fear was right. Pass.

I don't understand why studios continue to make these movies- yes I know they make money- but do they care about content at all?

I saw it before the lowdown and hated it. The story kept jumping from one event to another and felt like it was just a buncha' episodes from a series that were crammed together into one film. The acting was also absolutely horrendous. It was pretty damn awful.

Wait. A canceled tv series smashed into a movie?
My beloved Hollywood would never ever...consider...doing...
Oh wait. Yes they would. Carry on. -
Hilarious!!!
That's exactly what I was expecting from 10.000 BC, whatelse could you get from a Hollywood production? Accuracy and research are not in their agenda.
I'll follow your advice! -

Beer buddy huh, yo the "SNUFFLELUFFUCKUS THINGS" are called "Mammoth", here look it up,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mammoth
E-mail me, i'll get you a free pass on me to the "Museum of Natural History" (NYC)
Oh and again HELLO, 10,0000 BC "NO DINOSAURS", that's why they call it "P-R-E-H-I-S-T-O-R-I-C". Do you think that might mean something.
Let me see 65,000,000 y/a or 10,0000 y/a what's the difference?
Did you pay for school? You should get your money back.
No wonder our country has one of the worst educational systems.-

Yikes. Critics? Or ????
I don't know what kind of expectation they had going into the theater. But I thought the movie was well done and at one point I was even impressed with the script.
Perhaps it's because socio-anthropologically the creators (writers, et cetera) managed to reasonably portray what societies might exist in 10,000BC. The hunter tribe that hunted.... duh... Mammoth's (you morons in the clip) using group tactics. The writers had to invent some "traditions" and some "points of view" which would have been in line with what we know of that era -- which isn't much. Also in simple english they showed how complex experiences and discussions may still have taken place.
This WAS basically a Rocky or a Rambo movie set before written language was invented. But guess what everyone... no big breasted bombshells with machine guns... sorry... 10,000 BC. You know... pre-history. The actors were mostly all perfect-teethed models with dirt smudged on their faces.
Anyway, they took a formulaic plot line and gave it a fresh creative spin. Why do critics always seem so stupid to me? Hey guys... you can't measure every movie against Star Wars or Space Nuts -- although classic masterpieces they may be.
I liked it and I'd even see it again. There's a lot of detail in there in between the action scenes that was worth looking at.
Cheers.

Wow Stradius, have you ever seen a good movie? This movie was absolute trash from start to finish. And I think the reviewers were making jokes- I don't think they were serious. If you watch the other reviews, you will see that they add jokes to make these things fun.

"When people complain about big-budget crapfests, this is whats they're talking about."
That's funny. <monotone>ha ha ha</monotone>
I'm all for good jokes, especially to lighten up a bad review. But they are clearly catering to the lowest common denominator and overlaying it with personal bias.
You'll probably see from my other posts, I'm anti-crap-journalist. If you look at the other journalistic pieces on current.com you'll see a lot more integrity in the reporting and a lot more objectivity.
Perhaps they should start it out with "This is how the movie made me feel: When people complain about big-budget crapfests, this is whats they're talking about." Then follow it up with, "there weren't any big breasted caveman sex", just to make sure we know where they're coming from.
Reviewer: "They took all the women and so they say -- Hey we're not gonna be gay! -- so they go after the women." HAHAA sheesh c'mon guys.
I'm a red-blooded hetero male too and what red-blooded hetero male doesn't appreciate big-breasted cave-woman sex from time to time. :-)
My point here is this review is demeaning to me and all readers by calling this a critique of a movie. It's just a rant suitable for maybe... myspace or youtube. Definitely not quality enough to be on current.com.
Now, I can see they're capable of better (I've seen enough of their reviews) so maybe they're under some kind of "editorial pressure" to "turn it up a notch" but it's just turning me off because it makes me feel stupid.
There's this great scene where the elder hunter/warrior is trying to describe the heroe's father as a man of great vision and the script had to condense that concept down to simplistic terms that a primitive man might say. I was blown away by it and thought WOW the writers really put a lot of thought into this. They could have totally cut corners on a lot of what they did to make it another stupid-crap-fest but they made an effort and I appreciate it. And I've seen some REALLY bad movies so I know the difference.
"They will go to their giant red birds that fly across the waters to the mountain of the god."
(spoiler alert: When you realize they're talking about sailboats with gigantic red sails and how everyone else -- the primitives -- who see the boats are stunned by the magic of it... that's pretty thoughtful of the writers). How do they fly across the water without falling?
To you and me: What a stupid idea not to understand what a boat is. Why they've been around for what... a few thousand years at least.
To a mammoth hunter that just came down out of the snow-covered rocky mountains for the first time in his life... it's a wonder.
Please guys (reviewer doods)... "take it up a notch"... use some big words in your reviews for us.
One more thing... I am compelled to say that I appreciate that you have the time to do these video reviews. I know it takes some work. So thanks for that.
Cheers.
Stradius -
Stadius,
I am sorry that you feel insulted by these reviews. They are meant to be the downright "honest lowdown" that 18-34 year olds would give their best friend...and are not meant to be "serious journalism" so to speak nor Ebert and Roeper. It is an interesting and entertaining twist on the review format that is different than what you can find on every other network. We are a 24-hour network, and I can assure you that not every single thing we air is going to speak to every single person and I think there is room for everyone to find something that they enjoy here at Current. So rather than insluting the reviewers and the community that doesn't see it or present it in a way that is favorably to your personal tastes, please just pass on through to another piece that does. Though we welcome any insight or thoughts that you had on the film. Take this opportunity to inform our viewers and create a creative discussion.
Thanks.-

this sounds like a giant pile of crap. kinda like waterworld.
-
My intension was not to insult anyone or the critics. I see that these critics are trying. The only thing is they should act as if everyone watching at least GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL, at a minimum. It's just that it should be made funny and also intelligently.
Kinda' saying: " Hey the movie had one of those things that bark"....uh "A dog?" ....duh, hello?
The movie was o.k., I call these type of movies a "ONE TIME WATCHER" (unlike GODFATHER, SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, ect.. which is "1,000 TIME WATCHER"), you know the movie when you are browsing your tv running away from commercials you have to stop and wait for that favorite part of yours.
But, just to add I will not be stopping to watch this again on HBO. Probably go to CURRENTV and see what pod is on.
