A crane collapsed on my block in Manhattan this afternoon. A construction worker I talked to said seven of his co-workers died...

Thanks for the footage - sad stuff though. I've linked to a New York Times article which gives some background to the situation - some locals are saying that the they have been worried for months about the possibility of a collapse. Many residential buildings were being put up in the area with remarkable speed: several floors a week at times.-

I am happy to report that the information I initially received on the scene is not accurate. Seven people did not die in the crane accident. It was four. The construction worker I talked to said that there were eleven people working on the site. Seven men were on the crane. Five were on the cab, and two were at the top of the crane. The two men outside of the cab died instantly, the five men inside the cab, only two died. The other three are in critical condition.
The person I talked to believed that no one inside the cab would survive. Luckily, three men are still alive. -
unfortunately, three more people died during this accident, bringing the final death toll to 7 people.
