Serial spammer, Robert Soloway, won't be sending emails for a few years after it has been announced he could be facing a sentence of 26 years with accompanying $625,000 fine, after he pleaded guilty to electronic mail fraud, "snail" mail fraud, and not filing a tax return in 2005 (a year he allegedly made over $300,000).
At one point, Soloway was deemed the world's eighth largest spammer and has subsequently been charged with fraud, wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and money laundering.
He is being held in custody until trial, when all his 'ill-gotten' gains will be seized.
Will his arrest worry other 'serial spammers' or just open avenues for other spammers to move in on Soloway's 'spamming ground'?

At first I thought 26 years sounded harsh...and then I remembered the legal definition of "fraud".

huh...he's broke...always wondered if they weren't somehow glorified amounts of cash they claim spammers make. I mean, who really responds to spam?? Most spam just *looks* like spam to me...*shrug* maybe I'm just naive...or lucky =P lol

Rather than 26 years, why not stick him with the fine and let everyone who fell victim to his ploy give him a severe beating?

thinking outside the box I see. =P like it or not, the threat of suffering the humiliation of a public flogging would probably prevent a significant sum of that from ever happening. but while we're talking about "fraud," a more significant fleecing of America is really happening by those higher-ups in corporate fascist America. and the courts almost never take those mferz to task, although they'll probably throw this guy in jail so that he never even has a chance to more justly pay back in useful shape or form, the restitution he owes. but my not so humble opinion is, in the larger scope, this guy is actually chump change compared to all the pensions and adequate wages American CEOs feel obliged to defraud working class American families, everywhere in every state. That is to say, those are the real demons who I believe need a very public exorcising with a SEVERE beating for every dollar they've greedily withheld for comparatively extreme opulence, while humiliating with impunity those who go without for need and much more basic wants, easily met if CEO culture was honest, transparent, and forthright
This guy probably rips people off because he simply doesn't "have" although he probably got greedy when he saw what he could make "illegally," and thought "phukit, this is my ONLY chance to make it, illegitimately or otherwise." cuz everyone knows working for the man in most people's experience can generally be an arduous road to travel that offers no promises even when one works hard and fulfills the job mission enduring hardship for years of unreturned loyal service. but these CEOs...they have and have and have and take and take MORE...and act like they've no conscience or remorse to show for the disparity of the slaves they make of as many as they can. they're the sick creeps creating the very abberrations we see that a man like this is capable of, when he doesn't really believe the future holds any legitimate promise for a better life to forgo activities like this. and those who have the power to make things better for a significant amount of people, simply continue not to, instead taking more than their share while some of us scratch our heads and others like this guy think, good or bad, (more lucrative bad) I'm gonna do something about it. *shrug*
