5 years after Iraq's 'liberation' there are worms in the water

Lack of services, no electricity, polluted water, toxic land and rivers, and a population held under colonial rule. This is the PNAC definition of 'Democracy.' Our Founding Fathers would never have stood for this. I can't even begin to express my feelings about this after five years. The pain and sorrow that has been caused by this wreckless immoral and llegal action will forever render America a soulless country by our inaction to rectify it. Even should we pull all the troops out the damage to this land and its people is now complete. And this Congress should be ashamed of how it has conducted itself in allowing this occupation to go on as innocent people continue to be caught up in the crossfire. I hope someday the people of Iraq will be able to forgive us.

  • "We will never be angry with others for exercising their own rights according to what they think their own interests." --Thomas Jefferson: Address to Indian Nations, 1808. ME 16:429

    That didn't last long.

  • I hope too someday they can forgive. For now we should get out, give them the money instead of the "contractors" to start to rebuild their own country in their own way. Wouldn't we feel the same if it were us here in America?
You keep hearing reports of innocent people (including children) dying. Not to mention the ongoing suffering of our men and women in the armed services. Isn't enough - enough? How many lives is the oil worth?

  • Yea,I agree change. We went there on false pretenses, actually blatant lies,Wiki Downing Street Memo. And 9/11 was probably seen as a divine inccident by our administration being they needed or wanted a "catastrophic or catalyzing event.......like a new Pearl Harbor."Project for a New American Century. They knew it was coming and let it happen to advance their agenda shame on them and shame on us for not doing a damn thing about it.

As tragic as the loss of any member of the US Armed Forces is, consider the following statistics:

The annual fatalities of military members while actively serving in the armed forces from 1980 through 2006:

    1980 ......... 2,392 (Carter Year)

    1981 .......... 2,380 (Reagan Year)
    1984 .......... 1,999 (Reagan Year
    1988 .......... 1,819 (Reagan Year)

    1989 .......... 1,636 (George H W Year)
    1990 .......... 1,508 (George H W Year)
    1991 .......... 1,787 (George H W Year)
    1992 .......... 1,293 (George H W Year)

    1993 .......... 1,213 (Clinton Year)
    1994 .......... 1,075 (Clinton Year)
    1995 .......... 2,465 (Clinton Year)
    1996 .......... 2,318 (Clinton Year)
    1997 ............. 817 (Clinton Year)
    1998 .......... 2,252 (Clinton Year)
    1999 .......... 1,984 (Clinton Year)
    2000 .......... 1,983 (Clinton Year)

    Clinton years (1993-2000): 14,107deaths

    2001 ............. 890 (George W Year)
    2002 .......... 1,007 (George W Year)
    2003 .......... 1,410 (George W Year)
    2004 .......... 1,887 (George W Year)
    2005 ............. 919 (George W Year)
    2006.............. 920 (George W Year)
    2007.............. 899 (George W Year)

    George W years (2001-2006): 7,932 deaths

These figures mean that the loss from the two latest conflicts in the Middle East are LESS than the loss of military personnel during Bill Clinton's presidency; when America wasn't even involved in a war!

    Race in general population:
    European descent (White) ............... 69.12%
    Hispanic ............................................ 12.5%
    Black ................................................. 12.3%
    Asian ................................................... 3.7%
    Native American .................................. 1.0%
    Other .................................................. 2.6%

Now... here are the fatalities by Race; over the past three years in Iraqi Freedom:
    European descent (white) ................ 74.31%
    Hispanic ........................................... 10.74%
    Black ................................................ 9.67%
    Asian ................................................. 1.81%
    Native American ................................ 1.09%
    Other ................................................ 0.33%

These statistics are published by Congressional Research Service, and they may be confirmed by anyone at:

  • ONE life is too much and there are no statistics on EARTH to justify this "war."
    JanforGore
  • Sweet stats from the UT alum. Are there any stats on the deaths caused by conflict that are not American, in a conflict cause by America? And do the stats you present offer legitimet conflicts? If so, where can I find those? Being 11 Bravo for 5 years I can say this without guilt, If you have never been commisioned, or have never enlisted, then you are a chicken hawk, and everyday you wake up and look in the mirror, you will see a coward staring right back at you, as you support a war you do not fight. However, if you did serve in anything but the Navy or Airforce, then I take back the chicken hawk comment. But if you have not, you will be a coward until you do.
However, if we do end up staying for a long period of time( which is most likely as Americans who protest all the time will be even more pissed when oil prices hike to enormous amounts when we with draw) I think we should privatize the whoe thing. We can save a lot of money by pulling troops out and letting firms like Black water take over. We don't pay our kids enough to die for a cause not worth fighting for. Fastest way to stop this war is to start a draft.

    ObiaMan,

Actually, no, I'm not a Republican.

And thank you for proving my point. You're one of the few that caught it.

Don't just believe anything and everything you hear, see, and/or posted in/on any form of media. Even if you think it helps your cause(s). ALWAYS RESEARCH AND VERIFY EVERYTHING VERY, VERY CLOSELY.

I even helped you this time by giving you some of the research material.

This posting was from an email going around. And many would have just believed it without any research. Especially if it came from a friend, family member, or organization with similar views as the reader.

By the way ObiaMan, I'm a Conservative that believes in the War on Terror. Even the terror of our own government. But I'm still very proud to be an American. I just wish my fellow Americans would open their eyes and see the bigger picture.
