Clinton says she's only candidate who can end war

Based on what Hillary Clinton said below today, my question to Hillary is this: Using this same argument in reverse, since you were in the Senate to vote for the war in 2002 and had the perfect opportunity to stand up and do what you're NOW saying is what Obama won't do, aren't you asking us to trust you based on a delivering a speech? . . .

"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Hillary Clinton said Monday she is the only candidate who would exercise the leadership needed to end the war in Iraq.

Sen. Hillary Clinton delivered a speech on Iraq at George Washington University on Monday.

"Sen. [Barack] Obama holds up his original opposition to the war on the campaign trail, but he didn't start working aggressively to end the war until he started running for president. So when he had a chance to act on his speech, he chose silence instead," Clinton told an audience at George Washington University.

"Sen. Obama has said often that words matter. I strongly agree," Clinton said. "But giving speeches alone won't end the war, and making campaign promises you might not keep certainly won't end it. In the end, the true test is not the speeches a president delivers, it's whether the president delivers on the speeches."

  • You are kidding right? They are in no way the same. Obama uses speech to mesmerize and move you. You are seduced before you know it. Obama has nothing but speeches. We all would like Hillary to have made a different vote, but I TRUST that as a SENATOR she had information that us regulars did not have. The same people who lied to America, the UN, and others, lied to them. See, the only way a lie works if it is convincing.

  • No I'm not kidding. There is no doubt that Hillary voted based on false information, that's a given - we were all lied to. My point is, that at this point neither of them have anything to base where they stand "except" for a speech, a promise as to where they stand and asking us to trust what they're saying.

  • HILLARY VOTED ON WHAT THE PRESIDENT SAID . BUSH LIED.
I BELIEVE HILLARY WILL DO A GOOD JOB AS PRESIDENT .I HOPE SHE WILL BE ELECTED . .
I WILL SAY THE CLINTONS HAVE NEVER WORKED HARDER AND TOGETHER .

  • georgia1rn, She didn't even read it. I knew Bush was lying, why didn't she? I wonder if the Clintons worked together on deregulating the banks? Deregulation is the reason for the sub prime loan mess we are in. Will she know how to end a depression? I hope she goes back to Arkansas.
  • I agree, Marilynn.

Real change will only come from taking these economic interests out of the decisions made in D.C. Who is the candidate whose campaign has not been funded by special interest lobbyists? Who has an agressive stance (and record) on campaign finance reform?
Take a look at Barack Obama's Blueprint for America, and research the issues.

  • Obama has a message, and it sounds great. He is a good speaker, but not ONE Obama supporter can come up with a REASON this man should be president. All he has done is run for President his entire time he has been in the Senate. It would seem he only followed the path to the Senate as a stepping stone instead of representing the People of Illinoise. You know the one's that pay him $161,000 a year and in that time he has not voted 40% of the time.

  • The reason he should be President is because the majority of the people want him to be President. Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike want him to be President. Why not? There was another Senator or two running for President that didn't show up to vote either. Let's count them too. He sounds good because he is good. It's just been so long since we had a good President that you don't recognize it. He spoke out against the war, Clinton and McCain voted for it. Let us not forget that.
  • When asked why she states that she has passed the "commander in chief" test, Hillary's strongest claim (several have been proven to be gross exaggerations) is a SPEECH she gave in China on womens rights. A speech. Really...I'm not making this up. And while it was certainly courageous, can it be compared to Obama's speech on the war?

This hypocrisy and her "anything to win" approach to campaigning makes her exactly the politics as usual candidate that this country can no longer afford.

I'm looking for change and I believe Obama represents true change.

  • Krag - thanks for those posts. The "speech" comment further explains her illogical argument against Obama.

"NOW WHEN I LOOK AT ANY OTHER RACE I WONDER .DO YOU HATE WHITE AMERICANS?"

Wow. That is a stunning admission of racism on your part. Just the kind of thing Senator Obama was talking about. Maybe his speech yesterday is the first step in helping you deal with your racism issues. You know, getting it out there on the table. Maybe there will come a time when you don't automatically distrust anyone who doesn't look like you. I hope you can deal with your racism without having to leave the country...admitting you have a problem is the first step. Good for you.
