Many zoos are now research facilities that do a great deal to preserve and even breed species for re entry into the wild or take care of animals that were abandoned in the wild or were in other less human captive environments like circus's or traveling shows. I take great pride in the Indianapolis Zoo though it is small and I do feel for animals such as a rhino or elephant in such a small habitat however thier breeding rates and greater life expectancy are heartening. The same with the inovative dolphin program they have where interaction is actualy desired between the animal and the human. There is even an exhibit where you pet sharks. I think a zoo's most important function is to educate and that along with research is a main focus in reputable zoo's today. I think inevitably we all find captivity stifling and can relate to caged animals when we live in urban environments.
I cherish run ins with wildlife in my backyard. I live in the inner city of Indianapolis which has around 80,000 people in the two mile circle of downtown. Despite that I had a large turtle stumble in, as well as foxes, possums, red tailed hawks, and on one occasion a bald eagle nested a few miles away in a neighborhood school. I think that if people in an urban environment never get a chance to see wildlife even in a cage we won't appreciate a need for it's survival or understand our role in the environment staring at steel and concrete.
You made a beautiful POD, and raised an interesting question. Total GL from me! -

Love this pod! I won't write a novel of a response- but I will say that it is truly original
can't wait to see what you make next! -
I see it as a very personal, ironic expression of a dramatically "current" human concern.
Passionate and light, it smilingly raises an intriguing question. As you know and show very well...
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind

It's a really interesting question and probably there's not a right answer.
I think that this short documentary has to be put on current television. Definitely!

I had a lot of fun watching your pod!
Great philosophical question and a lovely style to entertain and make me think
Complimenti
really! -
I loved the narrator's voice as it accompanied me from infancy's first trauma (suicide of the beloved goldfish) to adulthood's decision to retire in a cage. While watching it I thought it was not my own story, as much as I liked it. Or was it? Brilliant! Waiting for the next one.
