“All around…
the arms of man
are tearing down
the arms of our land”
At an alarming rate, corporate America is continuously making new spaces for these retail shops that we can’t afford to even shop at. I wonder what our cities and towns will look like ten or twenty years from now if our economy continues on this downhill slope. I know; Ghost towns!
Big empty malls, shopping centers, plaza’s….empty parking lots all across our country are being seen more and more everywhere you turn.
Everywhere you go, there’s already that one, and in many cases even more, run-down shopping centers that use to be a thriving force in our local economies. And it seems like every time you turn around, “Corporate America” is in a continuous race to “stamp” every all American town with its vast varieties of food and clothing chains.
But, with gas at an all time high, milk at a ridiculous five dollars a gallon, taxes on a continuous rise, and pretty much everything you can imagine has taken a ride on the inflation rollercoaster, with no signs of coming back down. It makes you wonder; how are we even able to keep these businesses open and thriving to the point they need to build more and more?!
I wish we could go back to the days when our “mom and pop shops”, as I like to call them, got all of our business. Remember when “real people” from our own communities handled everyone’s needs; from the local pharmacies to gas stations and restaurants. Now though, every city and town across America looks the same. We’ve all got at least one Wal-Mart and we all have the same restaurants and fast food chains. It seems though that food is the only thing we are buying anymore, which has led to us being the most obese country in the nation. But we can’t help it…it’s all we can afford. People don’t go on vacations and Sunday drives like they did when I was growing up. You just simply can’t afford to. Sadly enough, it seems like this has been part of the whole “plan”…whether it be by our own government or Corporate America, which honestly in my eyes are one in the same! With the value of the American dollar at an all time low, and everything else at all time high’s, it’s no wonder people are hit with the reality of poverty and even to the point of homelessness and higher crime rates. It use to be that some families would buy their groceries for the month and be done… now, it’s all you can do to make it week to week, or in some cases… day to day!
We have some major changes here at home that is going to have to be made… and fast! Our future and our children’s future are at stake. And I honestly don’t believe that we can trust or rely on our government to make the necessary changes to improve the lives of our people here in America. Unfortunately Corporate America and our government’s are running this great nation and in my opinion as long as they are… they’re going to continue running us in the ground!

This is one of the first poems posted on Current. Perhaps you would like to recite some of these in a webcam post. It would certainly be unique and I hope you would find it a good way to express yourself. It's rare to find a chance to voice your oppinion let alone in poetry and make it onto television. Here at Current you have exactly that opportunity.
I realy appreciate you posting and I am glad you added an avatar, welcome to current pinkpoet! Little known fact about me, even to my friends at Current is that I am a published poet myself. I don't share poetry very often but you might just have encouraged me to do so. If you post a poem on webcam I promise to do so as well. Keep being your awesome self and enoy Current. Gl comment, post news articles, and tell us how you feel with your poetry. -
Wow, thank you so very much. (I am flattered!) I just got on here yesterday and have been posting many of my poems that are stock-piled in notebooks. And as long as they remain in those books....then I am not truly getting my message out there. Which is my reasoning for writing poetry in the first place. I have been watching Current on tv for a good while now...and have finally decided to get envolved online. I am sooo extremely new to this and am trying to learn as I go. I would love to make a video of some sort of me reciting my work, but honestly, I'm a little camera shy, and besides...I don't a video camera. I thought I would start by putting my stuff out there to see what kind of response, if any, I would get...and see how it goes. I am very driven and ambitous, and current tv has brought out a whole new side to my poetry that I never knew existed. Thank you so very much for your response, you probably don't even realize how important it is and how much it truly means to me! Thanks Again!

Have you checked out the viepoint section. All it takes to contribute is a webcam. Even posting ideas for topics. We also have a POD category called Current Rant and we have produced some great and funny pieces from that one. All that is required to contribute here at Current is a mouse, keyboard, internet connection, and preferably a webcam. There are lots of ways to participate and to find your way on air.

No, I haven't checked that out....but I definitely will now. Thank you so much for you input and advice....writing has always been pretty much my only form of communication...but I have recently realized that unless I am putting it out there for the world to hear it...then I'm basically only communicating with myself, lol! I am a very driven and determined person, and I have spoken with a few local newspapers around here...but it seems you gotta have degree's and experience, and at the moment...I have neither....so I will definitely check out viewpoints, and just may go and purchase a webcam!

I am biding my time, waiting to see the outcome of the 2008 election. If we have an Obama administration, I will remain an American citizen. If McCain is elected, I'm outta here. I've already filled out my papers to live in Canada or Sweden. I've had enough.

Can't say that I blame you, lol! At least in Canada you get free health care!
