  • Unfortunately for the Chinese Premier who has accused the Dalai Lama of lying about the 'cultural genocide' taking place in Tibet, and 'organizing the riots' going on there now, China doesn't run a very transparent ship there, so there's not much reason we should believe his claims. A couple days ago, the Chinese government blocked YouTube after dozens of videos of the protests in Lhasa went up on the site. They've also blocked international access to news agencies sites like CNN, BBC and Google News, and they have heavily restricted international news from reporting.

  • Here's some coverage from Al Jazeera. Not much more than is available on other news broadcasts. You can get a taste of what is allowed through the state-controlled Chinese media.

  • The Dalai Lama is urging Tibetans to restrain themselves, and said that if things get worse, he'll have to resign. Do you think he'd actually resign? And what consequences would that have on the people of Tibet?

  • In the US we don't have to lie, or block access to video, we make it all available, but then we quickly bury it with advertising or some other fluff and move on to something else with our short attention span and inability to actually engage with what is really happening in the world. Case in point right here on Current. There are countless posts about the situation in Tibet, but any continuity in the discussions or the situation is lost in the way these news blurbs and sound bites continue to surface and then get buried by something else...we are lulled into a state of apathy and inactivity by the lack of connectedness this sort of blitz information blasting produces. It is a cultivated A-D-D environment for the information seeker. Not sure you are doing us any favors here Current.

  • At least we're talking about it. Even if it's just the 5 of us talking about it... that's 5 more than if the Current didn't exist at all.

Incredulous, I also read some other comments you posted about this subject... and I've learned something more about what's going on [re: boycotting China Olympics]. Another way the Current is helping out.

  • The Panchen Lama is still in chinese captivity , the DL has said that his successor might be found outside of Tibet ( because the chinese would kidnap any person named as such within Tibet )... "cultural genocide " huh ? Imagine the US saying to muslims " we're going to appoint your spiritual leaders from now on " in order to retain possession of an occupied country at the point of a sword .

  • imagine if that was your store being looted by urban youth. what would you want the police to do?

let's argue that the store ownership was legal but under the laws provided through invasion and aggressive take over...kinda like the US with North American tribes, or Great Britain with Ireland, or Israel with Gaza/West Bank. what sort of reaction would be appropriate? what sort of punishment should be applied to violent criminals in this case?

    how would you handle it?

  • China is a terrorist nation at this point in history in relation to Tibet and then for all Buddhists alike.

Of course they're going to spout baseless lies.

The fact that the media regurgitates these lies and hardly ever covers anything about the atrocities and MURDERS committed by these militant pigs is par for the course.

It's not news, it's entertainment for masocists.
