  • This is an amazing intro to the documentary. I am so glad that the Cambodian genocide is finally being talked about and noticed on a larger level. I really hope that one day everyone will know the atrocities that occurred in Cambodia's past and people will be brought to trial.

  • Amazing documentary in its ability to touch the core of the problem - the desire to forget and erase the past. The Khmer Rouge is definitely a difficult topic for people to address and this documentary illustrates why. The documentary is also successful in showing the cadre's philosophy and/or beliefs in enforcing the Khmer Rouge regime. It is sad and heart-breaking to hear about the Cambodian genocide and the absence of trial to this very day. The dilemma of moving forward seems to be that the Cambodians have to acknowledge the past, but then the past is so atrocious that they want to forget about it. The pod illustrates the difficulty in dealing with such a situation.

  • I feel that this documentary is very definitive of the attitude associated with past violence in may countries around the world. While we should always look to the future with hope, we cannot, at the same time, forget about the injustices of the past. We keep those victims of violence alive with our efforts to change the future.
  • many of us have views on "justice" that reflect the status quo of the societies we live in...people always said never forget after the holocaust in europe, but still turn a blind eye 2 east timor, cambodia, darfur, etc...

for the record i do not feel this way personally, but it is possible that the way the cambodians are dealing with their past is helping them heal in a way those of us that didn't personally live through the terror of the khmer rouge can never fully comprehend.

yet another incredible piece from independent lense.

  • This is definitely one of the best and most moving pods I've seen on Current. Finally we're learning about the genocide, as well as the aftermath and very real horrors of anti-democratic government. Trials, please.
