  • I am so tired of people calling AIDS an EPIDEMIC. This disease is a PANDEMIC. People all over the world are suffering from this disease. Its not like Africa is the only true area of infection, and everywhere else is merely propaganda. Millions of people on every continent are dying and you mean to tell me they only count as "a community of infected persons"? give me a damned break

  • Hi Raven,
You are 100 percent correct. Aids is a pandemic and not an epidemic. I didn't write that byline but it should be corrected.

  • ok. im sorry for the harsh language, but it just pissed me off a little. its a great pod but i couldn't not say anything, but there are hundreds of websites that say that its an epidemic, yet they steadily list their efforts in other continents like Asia, Africa, South America, Eastern Europe.

or they say" the AIDS epidemic is one of the world's most serious developmental crises"

Give me a break. I'm concluding that they say that the HIV/AIDS virus is an epidemic because they don't want to make it sound worse than it is. I don't even think that most people would even say pandemic... why?... because the media, with all it's blinding eyes, its messages of propaganda, and its false numbers, teaches the people" everything they need to know". This is why people have to be self motivated learners and seek info for themselves, that way, you will never have an excuse as to why you didn't know or at least you can teach yourself.

  • Good point, Raven7, thanks. I've got on to the little man in the broom cupboard who writes the things so hopefully it should be changed soon :-) Great pod though!

  • Wow, this is absolutely heartbreaking. I can't believe that such horrific things are happening just half way aroud the world. Jaron, you did an incredible job telling the story of these children. I hope more and more people start paying attention to this crisis.

  • This is a pandemic. I like this pod because this issue of witch doctors and medicine men is prominent in many African communities (and developing countries). For so long people have depended on a local person to cure them, but people are in denial about HIV/AIDS. Education is key, and the only way this can be addressed.

  • This was a really interesting pod. I love how you used the little girl to help move and tell the story, while making both the traditional way and modern ways of healing relevent. I must say I am a huge fan of traditional methods. I am 22 and have lived with sickle-cell all of my life. Many with this condition don't make it to see my age and they get so caught up in modern techniques. I'm not knocking this method, however I can definitly testify that traditional methods work! Great pod!

  • I totally agree with what Raven had to say...I don't completely understand why people call it an epidemic. It's a horrible disease, yes it is, but it's not exactly that, and instead of trying to define what it is, we should try to help these innocent children who were guilty of nothing....great pod btw!

  • This is a good example of taking a small story and using it to give the audience information about a much larger issue. I would have liked to have seen a little more development on the characters of the relief worker and the girl she is caring for, but the story and the information is definitely there. This pod definitely raises an interesting point about the battle for medical supremacy and who the infected trust as reliable and effective doctors, a dilemma that ultimately calls into question people's traditional beliefs. Not a fan of the VO in the middle, but it's not too distracting. Also, it says this is a Collective Journalism piece, but it looks like there's only one contributor, no?
