Liberal_Extinction, what bizarre reason do you have for supporting the war. It has cost us a trillion dollars, oil is not cheaper, it has destroyed our economy, become a recruiting tool for terrorism while costing us 5000 lives on a war in a country that was no threat to us whatsoever.
It has done absolutely nothing good for us and you don't need the media to tell you that to figure it out. Thank god 2/3 of america has half a brain. -
We don't have the money or troop levels to continue this war without more clear diplomatic goals and some preliminary exit strategies. Bush and Cheney should be ashamed of the way they treated the American military who did everything that they have been asked. I can't wait for ANY of the remaining presidential contenders to be President and remove this traitor from office.
-
Wait until a draft gets underway - actually , don't wait .

I agree the rate the war is going is wasteful, give the Iraqi's a timeline of 1 year to purge the terrorist elements from their midst and start playing nice with the rest of civilization or blow them off the map. Problem solved! The last thing you do though is leave now that you're there, you either fix the problem or do away with it. Same principle as the death penalty IMO, either you act like a productive part of society or GTHO of the gene pool.

First of all, clearly America cannot "blow them off the map" without completely destroying itself seeing as how it has already practically destroyed itself and they are still on the map.
Secondly, what magical document gives America the right to judge weather entire nations of people are "worthy" to be in existence or not. Our politicians are definitely not capable of such a task and I don't think any mortal man is. There are plenty of intelligent people in Iraq that had to suffer an idiot dictator.
The whole "america needs to purify the world of evil" doctrine would not end well at all. And it sounds just like what every great infamous figure wanted to do - i.e. Hitler. -

Cheney never really care about citizens opinion no?
And Bush confirmed yesterday, 5 years, the six months easy war is still a victory!
God luck boys, this is as pathetic it can be! I hope-

"You can't be blown off by polls.", says Cheney.
Did Reagan leave some of his Teflon suits behind?
Apparently, he doesn't give a damn about the millions of people behind those polls. To jail and Hell with him. -
I wonder what Cheney would think if 66% of oil companies were against him.

Here's the thing, Cheney isn't a fool. I think that he is a potentially evil man who is very smart. Cheney does not give a rats ass about the United States public, he cares about how his stock is doing. And right now Haliburton has no bid contracts to develop oil fields in Iraq, so I imagine his stock is doing pretty well.
What really disgusts me though is that if 2/3 of the United States public is against Dick and George in the war in Iraq, why not impeach them? Hell, less people tried to impeach Clinton for lying about getting head from someone who wasn't his wife, so why can't we muster up the gumption to impeach these two asshats who have started an immoral and expensive war based upon lies?
On an ending note, if the draft is enacted under Bush'n Cheney's watch, I'm moving to Canada.-

Apparently, some of our democratic senators would rather ride this last year out than impeach them outright, stating it would "drain too much time and money". So this either means they don't have enough votes or no faith that the impeachment will work for some stupid reason. If a blowjob is enough for a congressional hearing and trial, then shouldn't he be tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity?
On another note, I would like to thank people like Liberal_Extinction for believing everything republican shock jocks opinionate as a fact. It's guys like him that allow insider hackers fix the elections for the past 8 years. He's also the reason why big business can mold and shape the truth in the media as they see fit.
In reality, you can justify it just like any job in the private sector. If you fail to do your job, and then when your boss tells you they are unhappy with you then you can't just say "so?" and shrug it off. If you do, you can expect to be fired. There are checks and balances in our democratic system for just such an occaison. He just shrugged off 5000 American lives, and who knows how many more Iraqi ones, like they didn't even matter. I say they both should be fired immediately.-

alexandrex - he only has the power WE endow him with. I would not suppose you are unaware of this, but perhaps you don't realize the collective unawareness of many people giving up their personal power to people who present themselves as "superior", "more intelligent" and "in charge."

As long as the terrorists want to continue on their quest to end the lifestyle of the western world I consider it to be an "us or them" situation. Liberals included, I'm FAR more interested in seeing US survive rather than THEM. So, once again, yes I do believe collateral damage in middle east IS acceptable. Their population will dictate when they have had enough, when they actually take ACTION against the terrorist organizations instead of just saying "we don't support it" then it will be time to leave them alone to police themselves. As long as there are attacks on freedom of religion, ideologies differing from theirs, and against groups they fundamentally disagree with originating from the mid-east SOMEONE needs to be in there preventing it. You can smear George Bush and Dick Cheney until you are blue in the face and your blogging fingers are bleeding, but the fact still remains we have yet to be attacked again since 9-11. I think Bush and Cheney have done a piss poor job on the PR front of the war Iraq but I do believe they ARE doing the job we elected them to do and for that, I thank them!

There is at least one problem with the "us or them" mentality Liberal_Extinction.
First off, the us or them mentality alienates their culture to make it easier for us to destroy. This is done because it is more difficult to kill off someone that is more similar to yourself than it is to kill someone off who is more different. Now this is not entirely a bad thing in war against a nation; however, we are at war with a smaller sect of a mainstream religion. By going right for the "us vs them" mentality we get a lot of innocent people caught in the crossfire just because they have a very similar religious belief to the terrorists. This happened in Vietnam and it has/is happening now in Iraq.
Now addressing that we haven't been attacked on our own soil since 9/11. Whoop de shit. All of the terrorist attempts that I recall after 9/11 have two things in common. 1) The attempted attacks occurred in Europe, not in the United States. 2) The United States has had absolutely not a fucking thing to do with preventing those terrorist attacks. The Clinton administration dealt with more terrorist attacks than the Bush administration and actually gathered pertinent information on terrorist groups like Al Qeada. When Bush's administration took office they were handed the files and warned that terrorist groups including Al Qeada were potential threats. The Bush administration was so concerned that they had planned to severely cut funding to anti terrorist intelligence about 1 week after 9/11 happened. But then 9/11 did happen and it would have looked pretty bad to cut anti terrorist intelligence then.
So, with the world behind us, we went into Afghanistan to capture and/or kill the man who chiefly claimed responsibility, Bin Laden. But, once we theoretically had him cornered deep on those caves, we handed the ball off to locals who really had little to no interest in capturing Bin Laden because Saddam had WMD's and we had to stop him. That would've been fine and dandy, if Saddam had WMD's. Through the years the excuse has changed and evolved. The latest excuse was that terrorists were occupying Iraq and that we needed to weed them out. However, the terrorist cells that occupied Iraq were incredibly minimal compared to the recruitment breeding ground we have created by throwing this country on the ass end of the planet into even more turmoil. So what has the constant been the whole time we've been in Iraq? Well its a three letter word that represents liquid fossil fuel. OIL! Exxon Mobil and Haliburton have made a killing off of this war in Iraq. Hmmm... what companies does Dick Cheney own stock in? Can we say "treasonous conflict of interest?" Meanwhile, a large portion of our armed forces are stuck trying to put a country back together while preventing terrorist who moved in with us from blowing it apart. Well at least we killed Bin Laden... oh fuck, that's right. The guy who helped mastermind the most devastating attack on United States soil since Pearl Harbor is still alive and sending out those nice videos in which he declares our death and destruction. Good job Bush and Cheney. Once we got involved, we helped to end the second world war in less time then we've been dicking around in the middle east. This is at the very best a gross example of incompetence, at the very worst it is a treasonous sellout of our country for profit.-

I have never denied that there have been mistakes made in Iraq, but I still to this day say that if there IS impeachable treasonous offenses committed by the sitting Pres/ VP then GET ON WITH THE IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS. There is a reason there have been no impeachment hearings, THERE IS NO EVIDENCE of the ridiculous accusations being thrown around by the left. Did nuking hiroshima kill some civilians? Yes it did, did it also bring an immediate end to the war? Yes it did! I think it's about time to drop a nuke on the middle east, it's painfully obvious that they as a whole have NO DESIRE whatsoever to be an active AND beneficial part of society in general. It sickens me to no end hearing liberals screaming and foaming at the mouth that they are willing to uprise against the US gov't that IS protecting them from these lunatics yet the people of the middle east refuse to rise up against their own gov'ts that are causing this mess with their extremist stances relating to the rest of the world. You people foam at the mouth and scream Christians when they want to dictate perceived "morality" yet you give the mid-east a pass for wanting to the same AND DO SO IN A VIOLENT MANNER, WTF? Time for a priority check and time to look at who the REAL enemy is. Our gov't does not want to spy you, hell most of you put your ridiculous rants out there online for the world to see anyway, spying on liberal bloggers wouldn't even be as complicated as you people make it out to be.

Liberal_Extinction - it's sems you are on the wrong forum, but you're welcomed here.
I say this nicely: You haven't a clue!
You bought the whole Muslims want to kill us thing, hook, line and sinker.
Bin Laden? I'd bet money he is a creation of the neo-cons. Not a real terrorist. Don't you know one of the guys who the government says hijacked the planes on 9/11 was employed by the CIA and had meetings in the US with the CIA some 6 months or so before 9/11?
You are here to dispel truth and plant seeds of doubt, but now that I think about it - you really should go away.
"liberal bloggers" ? - like I said, you're here to dispel truth and plant seeds of doubt. You are manipulative and deceitful.
Seeking a "father" figure in monstrous political figures? You think killing and death is a game? Your moral compass only points to what you believe benefits YOU - doesn't it?
You make pitifully weak arguments. "it's painfully obvious that they as a whole have NO DESIRE whatsoever to be an active AND beneficial part of society in general." You repetitiously assert facts not in evidence - but wait, I'm sure someone could fabricate some for you. What is painfully obvious is that you have no desire whatsoever to be an active AND beneficial part of the HUMAN RACE in general.
"There is a reason there have been no impeachment hearings, THERE IS NO EVIDENCE of the ridiculous accusations being thrown around by the left." Surely, if you deny the truth long enough, it'll go away won't it?
You need a spanking! - you with father figure deprivation and undeveloped manhood. You can find less destructive ways to feel "manly" than bombing and killing and pumping up your chest and pointing your self-deceived, misguided and vindictive finger at a group of people you know even less about than what little you know about yourself. Self-understanding? Non-existent.
Word to the wise - don't project or externalize your demons on others - it's really really really unbecoming, and it exposes the fact that you are weak and feel impotent in life and a future Viagra customer (if not already). It's really a big turnoff to girls dude, trust me.-

The reason that there have been no impeachment hearing is that before we had a democrat controlled house the Dems were not going to go through with a process that they would not win. The mindset changed from "we can't win" when they took control of the house to "we only have to deal with him for another two years, is it really worth it to go through a long and drawn out impeachment process that will probably successfully evict him from office 3 to 6 months before he is due to resign anyways?" The problem is not evidence, the problem is that the democrats aren't as trigger happy about impeaching an opposing party president as the republicans were about Bill Clinton. But that stands to reason, after all Hilary was one of the people who brought Nixon down in the impeachments for Watergate. The republican party had try to impeach Bill for something so trivial in order to salvage what they could of their damaged pride.
Oh, and evidence? Lets look at the documented evidence of WMD's that sent us into Iraq... Hmmm... Looks like that was fake, and not the good kind of fake were it should take you time to realize it. Upon examination of the documented evidence it was fairly obvious that the WMD's were not a sure thing but rather a "theory".
You're analogy of Hirsoshima is flawed as well. During the second world war we were at war with Japan. Let me repeat that. WE. WERE. AT. WAR. WITH. JAPAN. As in the nation. We were not at war with some small fanatical sect of an oriental religion whom happened to be hiding within Japan. We were at war with the nation. That is why we dropped the atomic bombs on that nation. We don't drop nuclear weapons on the middle east for a few reasons.
1) We are trying to liberate these nations not destroy them in a war, though you wouldn't know it by what we've accomplished.
2) Despite our tough attitude, Iran now is actually developing and/or has developed nuclear armaments. This is not fluffy "get us to war" evidence, and when a country actually has the means to counter us in such a violent manner we tend to pay more attention to how we treat it. We did the same thing with the Cuban missile crisis. Hell, we entered negotiations with Russia to get the nukes out. It was a good thing too because years later once communist Russia dissolved they told us that if we had invaded Cuba, they would've nuked us. Now I don't think the issue here is if Iran has the missile technology to nuke us, I think that issue is if Iran can get a suitcase nuke or a dirty comb inside of our borders. Of coarse it is also a problem since Iran, unlike Iraq, actually harbors terrorists; however, we knew that Iran not only harbored terrorists, but also was trying to develop nuclear weapons technology before we went into Iraq. Gee, I guess that means that our battle plans were only off by one letter doesn't it? We didn't go into Iran because Iran doesn't have such a rich supply of oil and because Iran didn't have Saddam. And Bush had to get revenge on the guy who tried to kill his daddy even if that guy wasn't a national threat.
3) As we have learned through experience, nuclear weapons have a nuclear fallout. We don't really have an effective means of cleaning that fallout up. And it's not like chemical weapons which disperse into the air until they are harmless or become chemically inactive. You nuke a place and that place is pretty much uninhabitable for a very long time.-

As far as their lack of desire to be a part of beneficial society, well let us look at it from their point of view. A hostile nation invades your country and overthrows your dictator. Now your dictator was a vicious asshole, so you're not shedding any tears over his capture and eventual death; however, that dictator did keep some semblance of law and order in your somewhat chaotic nation. Now your homes are being periodically raided by this "beneficial" society that wishes for you to join it. The soldiers it sends imprison anyone whom they suspect might know something about someone who might be an enemy, and then mentally torture those prisoners in order to obtain potential information. Meanwhile the largest amount of funding that this invading nation puts forth to rebuilding your wrecked country goes to developing the oil fields which you never really saw profit from unless you were a rich sheiq. You're not a rich sheiq, but you are still not seeing any profit from that resource. Oh, and low and behold, the Islamic fundamentalist extremists that are otherwise known as terrorists followed that invading nation into yours like fleas on a dog. Now you have to deal with suicide bombers and all sorts of fun chaos.
So with all we done for them, why don't those damn towel heads not love us and want to follow our example?
Iraq was a country that was going to have its own revolution. However we jump started it before the civilians could become angrily passionate about their oppressed situation. Now the civilians have all of the violence of a revolution, but they lack the passion or desire to be part of reshaping their country for the better. Instead, a lot of that oppressed building anger is being refocused on the United States for dropping their nation down another peg.
As far as screaming "Christians" as opposed to "Muslims" whenever we have a discussion about morality, that's because a larger percentage of the Christian/Catholic population of the United States is war hungry compared to the percentage of Muslims who are war hungry. Many people of this country are taking out of their ass about how we need to be there to quiet the war happy Muslims without even knowing a damn thing about the religion. Lots of Christians/Catholics are saying things along the lines of, "All Muslims are a threat because the Koran tells them to kill all non believers and all good Muslims must follow the sacred text." That's like saying, "All good Christians/Catholics are a threat to Wiccans because the bible says thou shalt not suffer a witch to live, so we have to burn all of the Wiccan's at the stake." Today common sense dictates that we don't follow religious texts down to a "T"; however, this is a slight problem in the middle east because a large portion of the population is uneducated. Is it their fault that they are poorly educated? No. Is it going to be easy to educate people who could be very happy being ignorant and thinking that we might be the devil's spawn? No, but it is worth the attempt to bring these people out of the stone age and create something akin to a middle class for them. You don't accomplish that by invading the country though, you accomplish that through time and generally nonviolent effort.-

Seriously though, why is it that more of our good presidents and political officials die in office rather than the assholes and crooks? Is it some kind of odd coincidence, or is it the nature of the universe to tend to kill of people who can make a change for the better?-
