If you are a devout believer of the Christian faith and if you strongly subscribe to the antiquated (not too mention ridiclous) notion that somehow Jews (all of them from past to future) are responsible for the death of Jesus Christ, you should actually change your hostile tune and be thanking all of Jew-dom for the Crucifixion every Easter and Christmas.

Let's face it - without a dead Messiah to die for all of mankind's sins and come back, Christianity would have been up the spirituality creek without a paddle. There would have been no Resurrection and without that there probably would have been no strong faith to grow and expand.

The above link goes to an essay discussing the ridiculousness of an ancient blame which has caused countless horrors over the centuries - horrors based on the most idiotic of arguments.

  • Okay, I am Christian, and I have never once blamed any Jew for Christ's death. Christian who read the Bible (as they should) know well that Jesus was meant to die. He was born to die, as He says Himself: "That is what the Son of Man has done: He came to serve, not to be served--and then to give away his life in exchange for the many who are held hostage." (Matthew 20:28, The Message)

But I can see where you're coming from. Antisemitism is too often justified by a Christian viewpoint that Jews were responsible for Christ's death. Jesus was born to die. He knew full well, from the hour of His birth, that He was meant to fulfill all Messianic prophecies. His death was ordained by God.

  • Well, that's good for you Wolf! Glad to hear it but the idea "The Jews killed Jesus!" is an old one that was often used as a justification for discrimination against Jews. And your last paragraph is exactly what I'm truly talking about - that Jesus's death was pre-ordained and necessary.

My impression from a spirtual point of view was that WE all human kind was responsible for the death of Jesus. His death reflected our dark side not that of any one group.

SLightly off on a tangent, Jason ALexander from Seinfeld once commented on a talk show that Christians should be sending thank you cards to Jews every Easter. LoL!

  • Jesus was fighting the establishment Jewish priests of the Temple who had sold out to Roman rule. The anti-Jewish statements in the gospel come from this point of view. When Christianity was the religion of the oppressed who followed Jesus the anti Jewish statements caused little concern for Jews. When Christianity became the religion of the Holy Roman Empire anti Semitism then became the doctrine of power and the root of jewish hate in the modern world.
