Sooo...my webcam's still not working...bummer. Anyways, this pod really spoke to me. The ending quote was more than appropriate, although I would've liked to see a little more time spent on the concept of war as a coming-of-age ritual. Maybe look at some other rituals from other cultures, seeing as pretty much every culture has a coming-of-age rite. Overall, the production, editing, dialogue, everything was fantastic. I like the main character, although he may have needed a slightly larger introduction. The movement was great, the entire pod kept me enthralled throughout. Great job, this pod is pretty much ready for TV!

It's really quite good.
Might I suggest a trimming down of about 2 minutes?
It has a flow in parts that needs the rest to compliment them.
Really, really quite good. -
Really great work! you seamlessly integrated the graphics and the story. I love the exploration of manhood and what that means in a society where there are no clearly defined rituals. Brilliant!

Great work Stuart! I thought it was really well edited together and loved the use of graphics. I'd be really interested in seeing more of your work...

nicely done!

Excellent . It seems that no guy will ever be a " man" these days unless he gets the whole idea of " manhood" out of his system and learns to just be himself - easier said than done , but adopting a fuck all attitude to what " society" says in the first place would seem to be a good start - the measure of a man , i guess , is how little need he feels to prove anything to anyone , including himself .
-
I think its perfect, and enlightening.

malathion said it pretty well...
but may i add...dying or killing for a cause does not make a man it just makes more dead humans. The last statement of the pod was also well said...living humbly for a cause is also good.

"The true measure of a man is the degree to which he has managed to subjugate his ego." -
This is a great piece of work, Stuart - you pose an interesting question and I think you go some way to answering it. Also, loving the gfx as well. Top, top job!

This is a great 10-minute short; the filmmaker does a remarkable job of exploring the modern notion of 'wonderlust', packing in a lot of material and clips derived from interviews with the many people whose lives he touched in his odyssey to find out who the 21st Century man is. The filmmaker even throws in for good measure an illuminating clip about a near death-defying leap that he undertook with little training and preparation, providing real insight into what motivates a person to attempt a dangerous feat. I admit, I almost felt compelled to give away my belongings, pack some rice and a Kerouac novel and walk into the woods after viewing this...
