Easter without Marshmallow Peeps is like Christmas without Candy Canes, but do you know the history of the fluffy sweat treats?
Russian immigrant Sam Born introduced the marshmallow, sugar, gelatin and carnauba wax creations in 1953 when each yellow chick took 27 hours to fashion by hand.
Now, Pennsylvania-based candy manufacturer Just Born produce Peeps, that pop up during Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Christmas and the 4th of July. The candy ranks as the most popular non-chocolate Easter Bunny delivery. Over the years, Peeps have inspired games like Peep Jousting and Peep Eating Contests and been at the center of debate over the cutesy candy’s alleged indestructibility.
So what about you? Are Peeps your favorite Easter candy?
