Four U.S. soldiers died in a roadside bombing in Iraq on Sunday, military officials reported, bringing the American toll in the 5-year-old war to the grim milestone of 4,000 deaths. Eight of those killed were civilians working for the Pentagon.

Troops emerge from a bunker after receiving the "all clear" Sunday following a truck bombing in Mosul.

1 of 3 The four were killed when their vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device while patrolling a neighborhood in southern Baghdad, the U.S. military headquarters in Iraq reported Sunday night. A fifth soldier was wounded in the attack, which took place about 10 a.m. (3 a.m. ET).

The U.S. milestone comes just days after Americans marked the fifth anniversary of the start of the war.

  • How many more must die, Mr. President? How many more?

  • i think that by now it would be evident that military action is not winning this war nor is it helping to situation in iraq. Also i think we need to take a look at the possibility that our military was'nt even ready to fight a war like this. Our military is designed to fight other militaries not guerilla factions from building to building. Killing not only our troops but innocent civillians bring even more backlash on the U.S. and its citizens. But thats just one man's opinion

  • There's no Democracy in USA. The Stupid president is doing what he wants, taking stupid decisions without taking the Nation in confidence.

Bush will go away but the poor Americans will always live under the threat of Al-Qaida and many more who have lost the innocent members of their families and have now joined militants.

    Thanks to your President !

  • More people have died in this foolish war than the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Its ironic that the war on terror was suppose to prevent many deaths caused by terrorist attacks, instead more people have died than saved. How many have to die? Before we realize that this situation is not getting us anywhere. Well, than again I am just a naive brat, who would bother to listen to my opinion? All I hope is that humanity should truly learn from this horrible mistake and realize that innocent people are dying out there both civilians and uncivilians and that peace and democracy cannot flourish through the barrow of a gun, if there is no will or desire from the people to establish that. Only the Iraqi people have the right to determine their fate.

It's nice to see that every single person I've met is actually against this stupid war, It's no War actually, War is from both sides, There's only U.S. forces...

Just Imagine, there are 3 4 guys in USA who are terrorists and they attack some country let's say 'ABC', ABC comes with it's forces and attack USA and kill innocent people and their families because they need those 4 guys.

Those 4 guys may well get killed or not, what would you do if your innocent family member die in front of you? What will you do?

My Answer: You will become an Enemy of that ABC country and will try to seek revenge.

This is exactly what is happening in Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan.

It's a never ending Chain Reaction. You'll kill more, you'll face more of them, they'll multiply.

That's my theory and anyone can disagree :)

  • I agree jasminerafique, the situation in Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan and other world hot spots where conflicts dominate the land there is an endless cycle of bloodshed. That cycle of violence will only end when individuals finally realize that violence is not the solution to their problems and learn to forgive and move forward. But that is easier said than done we are after all flawed creatures always bound to make mistakes and allow our emotions to get the better of us. That is why we allow ourselves to be blinded by fear, hate and revenge, but I believe despite everything that we are alot better than this; that we can learn from our mistakes we have within us the determination to end situations like Iraq, all we need is to find the will and courage to do something about it and move forward towards a path of forgiveness and understanding. Only then will the endless cycle of bloodshed will truly end. What do you think?

  • @ferrjuan
    Completely Agree.

I guess Iraqis and Palestinians will forgive and move on if given a chance, they have no other option.

BUT, will govts like Israel and USA ask their forgiveness? Are they sorry for what they are doing?

    These are the real Questions...

  • 4,000...

    for a lie.
  • How many must die before we realise that to many have died
    Amir3793
  • jasminerafique, yeah I agree if it wasn't a hard situation then those conflicts would have ended a long time ago.

Bush's remarks on the milestone. Funny. 4,000 deaths and he missed every funeral.
    Egnatius212
  • exactly , "thank god" these americans died for "god" ( thankfully) , and Bush - because if they died just for Bush he'd never get a library named after him .

  • I propose a solution to the U.S. govt, if they follow this they'll win without losing their lives and trillions of dollars.

    Points are as follow:

    1. Give all the Iraqi Children Pencils and books instead of letting them get Guns from others.

    2. Give them School Bags instead of letting them get bombs and grenades.

    3. Give them School Uniform instead of letting them get Suicide Bomber's jackets.

    4. Drop "Food" instead of bombs.

    5. Open Schools & Markets instead of Army Bases.

A simple 5 point solution, many will agree and you can also disagree :)

If you have any other points please enlist them.

  • They died for nothing; same case in Afghanistan.
    Cynic2
  • Afghanistan could have been for something, Iraq never...
and please can we not refer to it as a "WAR" even if the administration would like us to so dignify it? It is more properly, & obviously, described as an invasion & subsequent occupation.
Under international law if it was & is an illegal act because it had no UN suppport & anyway Rummy declared that WMD was not the point & that "the purpose was always regime change" ergo illegal! You'll note that Blair & Co studiously avoided admitting this because they were not ignorant or unconcerned about international law.
