A well dressed, young white girl and a man named Jimmy

In the city of St. Petersburg, Florida, there has been an unwritten law about poor treatment towards the homeless. Last year, the city had police officers slash and toss a tent city where many within the city limits were congregating.

That being said, the link takes you to a story of Amy and her chance encounter and conversation with a man named Jimmy. This is the anti-thesis of some very self-absorbed blogging I had seen last year by other local bloggers on their encounters with the homeless.

I really don't know what else to say, the story just moved me and I wanted to share it with others. An open mind and an open heart seems to be rare these days in my neck fo the woods and it's refreshing to see when someone can be open and caring for others down on their luck.

    • Try living here. They get angry now- they demand money if you have in and threaten you if you don't give it to them. They follow girls home at night. they knock on your car window and demand cash, and spit on your windshield if you refuse. If you give them a dollar, they ask if you have a five.

And the police do nothing- because of the publicity the whole tent fiasco caused- they can do nothing. Meantime, we live in fear of them.

    • I made reference to a very self absorbed blog post about a homeless encounter. This link takes you to the story in question - written last year at a time of heightened tensions between the city of St. Petersburg and it's homeless population.
