Good God.
Put this pod and this dude on the air.
He's one of many whose minds run this gauntlet.
There's a guy my building that's just like him and, for real, I don't think it's Pot.
Harrowing place for a cameraperson, or anyone else, to be. Some folks are just mentally miswired.
Oh. Change "excuses" to "accuses" on the missing phone thing. -
its a lot better than the first version but i feel the story is missing an ending? It still leaves me with a few questions about phil, but it's a really good pod. tell me what you think of my new pod...

This version does cover a few more issues but still has marijuana as the perpetrator of his mis-behavior. Phil is clearly a damaged person but marijuana probably had nothing to do with this. His ignorance about his own problems but these problems clearly began way before he ever began smoking marijuana. This video illustrates even more all of the negative influence in his life. I do agree that Phil needs help but it should be with a therapist or someone to address his issues other than his marijuana habit. Keep up the good work on this i look forward to your piece on the successful side of marijuana use that you were talking about in your last post.
-
I agree with Dre, a great follow-up pod, but I'd love to see the flip side that you were talking about last time.

Well, I don't really know what to say but phil is a loser, him & his friends are rasicist's,which is def not cool, he's def not a tough guy, and I wish he would take his life sooner than later, please.
-
I think this is a great follow up. I don't think that this pod is as interesting as the first one. I think the movement and information was deeper and better. I do think this is a very interesting topic. I also think this guy needs serious help. This is sad.
-
What a great insight into this family's life. The portrait of Phil is well done but I would love to see what he thinks of his drug habit, what his hopes and dreams are, instead of just the fighting. His use of guns scares me. It's the kind of situation you read about in the paper when a kid murders his whole family in a rage. I hope his whole family goes and gets therapy to help him. And that they all go on a diet.

I don't think that marijuana is the problem here. I'm no psychiatrist....but it seems that he clearly has a lot of anger and rage inside. I believe that he needs some type of therapy. This is a great pod in the sense that it's so personal. It is dangerous though with him having all the guns and knives around during his fits of rage. Also, I've never known anyone to steal for weed! (Usually the thieving drug addicts are into something much harder than marijuana) But, who knows?! At least he is working, probably only to support his habit....but in his defense, I don't think he stole any of the items...everyone seemed to be high and probably just forgot where they left there stuff laying around. If he was a thief...I don't think he would be working...he wouldn't have to...I dunno...this one's pretty complicated. Phil had definitely got some issues that he needs help with!

That is a terrible thing to say kidryu, this website is not about promoting suicide so please refrain from any more comments on that front, he is not even suicidal from what i can tell in this pod. I agree with Pinkpoet on the therapy issue. I do think that there needs to be more direct interviews with Phil about his own habit and what he thinks about the situation he is in, because most of both of these pods are scenes of people harassing Phil. Also maybe some interviews with the parents, and some stuff dealing with Mike being such a terrible enabler.
-
Ahhh 0o0o ok, I see this makes sence, you had to be the one to respond to my comment, 0o0o alright.. ok let's start.. So ok maybe I shouldn't wish death on anyone, Given, but on the other hand. Here's this pshycopathic drug struck fool, that's head over heels for his Arian brother hood fellows, I'm suppose to hope this man gets better while his friends & himself go out in the street & happily harras people of colour, so what exactly are you telling me "PRODIUS" what are you trying to say, I'm hearing "well maybe Phil should get some help from someone lisenced", from who you? becasue that's all talk, help him out give him some cash to go to a special doc. "This website is not to promote racist people ither but someone has a part to pay". o0o uhh & from what I'm getting is he is a suicidal maniac that dosen't care about anyone not even his family, and will do anything to get blown, & if you didn't know drugs do kill.
-
Thanks for everyone's input...
But to KIDRYU16, Phil is NOT in the Arian Brother Hood and the doc said nothing about him or his friends being in it and going in the street bothering color people. He was bullshiting in the heat of his own anger. He was out of line saying that.
Yes I do agree that Phil needs some kind of help. Phil did go to school for his other passion(Culinary Arts) but people say he dropped out due to his habit.. Now a days Phil says all he wants to do is live in the forest and get high. I spent a long time filming Phil, over 7 months, to be honest he is a really nice and calm person most of the time. When you bring up that he has a problem, he gets defensive and mad. -

Holy shit, I am trying to read about Interpol & the Russian gov. and I get another E-mail, ok look if you feel comfortable in arguing with me about this guys lifestyle, whatever.. and if you're comfortable with defending his open sence of racism cool, I'm not you, and you're not me, but I was just laying down my opinion, and I had written another comment before this one but I guess it didn't appear , & I really don't feel like writing it again. And again "I never saw anything positive with the Arian brotherhood or the flag" I don't care that he went to school I don't care if he's a nice guy until people say he's got a problem, he's a loser & that's that. If I think he's a racist then that's me. If you think he's a cool guy going through some problems that's fine, and right now he's just affliating with a racist group of people, that he gladly mentions, and proudly stands a con fed flag "again I mention" in his room so be it. Go white Supremist.. How do I know he's not in the arian brotherhood, he never said he wasn't, but he brings up the subject of getting them on his friend "the cuban kid" =/ like I knew he was cuban.
-
Look what I'm saying is, it is not my job to care about Phil & his problems, I def don't, if he wants to do blow he can, if he wants to do pcp, he can, whatever I def don't care about Phil, & if that hurts your feelings then I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do about Phil and his problems, beacuse well I just don't care. I just came here to tell you how I felt about it, becasue you asked me to. Peace & you keep up the good work.
-
I think the bottom line is this. While it is an interesting piece on one young mans daily struggle the video really doesn't say anything to me. I can tell what your trying for by saying separate the drug from the person. I get that you think marry jane is not to blame, the kids got problems and perhaps smoking is just a symptom of them. But it's not been made very clear. People with narrower views on life may find issues like the brotherhood statements to be the center of attention because there really isnt one clearly pointed out. As in if I didnt read or wasnt very smart it may be hard for me to tell what you were shooting for...if that makes sense.. Basicly more interviews with phil and his parents would be great and I think the only one defending phil would be a good source of insight as well the guy standing there saying at least he has a job...but itsa good start dive deeper my man
-
I like how in the very ending you use the excuse for guns being legal to justify marijuana use. Great pod. Hurts to watch though.
-
I really thought that you captured a lot of prize moments for an addicted person. Not only that but the way the video was put together was nice. I really felt for him and regardless if he is a loser or not , feeling anything at all would be the goal of each filmakers video right?
This should definitely be picked to be on air!!!! -
I am not trying to tell you anything kidryu, but saying saying he should kill himself sooner rather than later is the same crap that probably got him into his situation in the first place. If he is a racist piece of crap then i feel sorry for him being so ignorant but it was not the focus of this pod so i did not feel it necessary to comment on. I do respect your opinion and if you hate this guy its your business but feedback on the pod and its presentation are whats most important not wishing death on people because you disagree with their views on life because that my friend is the cause of the problem.
-
Understood.
-
My brother had issues long before the marijuana came into the picture, but we cannot eliminate the possibility that the drugs don't have a negative effect. Mary-j is his cure-all and as long as he leans on it, he'll never be able to face what ails him, internally. He's angry, there's no mystery. He isn't even extraordinary.
-
0o0o & I didn't mean he was doing "racist things" with his friends, I'm just saying if you're with cats liek the "ABH" then you probably aren't baking cookies for your near by public schools, dig me.
-
someone needs to turn Phil on to smack - i mean , the dude is stealing shit to buy pot ? what a loser
-
this kid needs a change of scenery, and to get out of that house, where it seems all he hears is negativity towards him, by family and friends. his freaking out may be just because a man can only hear something so many times before enough is enough. pot isn't the problem, the negatiivity is,
get your own place phil!-

idiots making weed look bad, as usual. just cause some dumb ass smokes it doesn't mean it's bad, it means the guy is a dumb ass.

Besides the douche with the bass pro hat and glasses, this was a great video dave. You should probably take him out, even though he was sexy as hell looking.

Oh yeah, and I'm pretty sure none of the other kids were smoking weed... It looked like they were drinking, but the guy with the blue hat, evan is it, was deffinately not doing any of those. It looked to me like he was the responsible type and had to drive later or something, I don't know I was just throwing that out there... Also Kidyu is a huge douche, that is all...

I disagree that pot is the main cause for Phil behavior. Although I agree that sometimes people use smoking as a crutch, to hide from things they don't have to think about.

this pod was something else. i hope that people don't take phil as the standard pot smoker because this is a gross misrepresentation of the drug culture. as a part of the lifestyle, i hold down a full time job, pay all of my bills, and am mentally balanced. i have never stolen anything from anyone, nor have i ever been accused of theft. phil it seems has no sence of direction or responsibility and has nothing but rage and weed to fill his time. most of my friends also smoke, and all of them hold down jobs and go to college, some of them do both. all are completly independant and intelligent. phil seems like his braincells were far and few between before he was introduced to marijuana. whenever you take a drug or intentionally alter your state of mind, be it pot, alcohol, lsd, cocaine, whatever your choice, you CAN do it responsibly in a safe environment. that is the only way to experiment with any type of substance if it is your choice to do so. if you dont have to money for it, go without, that simple. if you need it, or cant stop thinking about it, you have not been responsible with your drug use. the responsible way of living in an "altered state" is that your altered states are far and few between. use only for recreation, not to escape your problems. that is not going to work, in fact things will spiral out of control. you must know you can live without drugs and be happy in order to use drugs properly.

Hey Dave! This pod is still one of my favorites! I think it's still very good, but like before it needs to be condensed a little. Maybe, don't elaborate on some things for so long. Like the missing telephone incidents. The point could have be gotten with a couple of really good sound bites from the friends showing how they feel about Phil. Phil is such a memorable character. I think what makes this pod work so well, is that we've all seen or posibly encountered a Phil before. Great job of capturing so much on camera. That's what makes this piece so real and somewhat uncomfortable. I can't wait to see how you tie up the loose ends. I think I am a fan of not having a real ending with this pod, because people with this lifestyle usually don't encounter a happy one. Sometimes they do, but its rare. Leaving us on edge make for a great segway to a second pod about Phil. Keep up the good work!

WHOA!!!...Arian brotherhood, Confederate flags, Guns, Bullent proof vests hanging over doors, Shooting yourself, Threats to kill his friends, and his family constantly accuses him of theft and being an addict. This is much more than a problem of toking up all day...He needs an intervention, not about his smoking, but about what's really going on underneath the surface and tough guy facade. There seems to be a truly violent nature underneath it all. HELP!! that's what he's trying to say.

It's a great story and a great character, but I think it could have been structured a little better. You ask the question is marijuana effecting his life? Well what were his hopes and dreams when he was a child? I love the great cinema verite moments, but I think sit down interviews with the family and friends and him could have created a stronger foundation. Other than that it's great that you captured such raw moments.
