thoughtful profile of a republican

I am glad Mr. Crockett honestly places his opinion out there in a very lucid, non argumentative manner. I disagree with his assessment. Since 1968 there have only been 3 Democratic Presidential Terms. This leads me to think that the Republicans "bandy about" the family values issues as a gimmie issue in their favor, but I haven't seen any results from this. There is still abortion, still no prayer in schools and more families are deteriorating under the crush of horrible economic policies, among other issues. I also consider allowing our Fighting Men and Women to continue to die in a war of choice to be more immoral than most of the issues the neocons pay lip service to. I also cannot morally align myself with the idea that America, which I was raised to believe was the shining beacon for the world being one of the very few "enlightened", modern, civilized or progressive governments (your choice) that still believes that it is moral, ethical and right to not only allow but actively pursue capital punishment. Torture also does not fall into my wholesome values column. The way we behave when frightened (as we are of terrorists) should not be at odds with what our founding ideals are. In the end, I feel there is much to discuss in the morals department, and I am very sad to say that I do not believe that the Republican Machine has any high on the agenda concerns about family values or lapel pins once they have the needed votes.
