The movement is being generated on internet message boards and social networking sites by non-emo youth who highly dislike like the emo look and attitude.
According to Daniel Hernanadez's blog, in which he has been keeping up to date with the emo-bashing Mexican antics, it begun about three weeks ago when "an estimated 800 young people poured into the city's Centro Historico hunting for emos to beat the crap out of." He goes onto state, "They found some."
Over the last few weeks the violence has spread across Mexico, with reported attacks sighted in Mexico City, Durango, Colima as well as others.
Check out some of these links and see if you can come up with an explanation as to why there has been such an increase in the amount of 'emo-bashings'.

I worked in Mexico last year, and my students called emo kids 'emosexuals'.

*SIGH* .
Why can't we all just...get along? -
Well, this ''Emo'' phenomenon seems nothing more than just a step back in evolution, this trend is noting more than an 80's reoccurance, and quite frankly it's stupid and silly, and this fad is psychotically driven by ''Music'' and the propogation of an ''Emo'' message in the fashion and music industries based on sadness, depression, death and suicide all under the guise of ''Love'' but the ''Emo Kid'' is far from it, hence his malencholy depressed like appearance, it's a cry for something they've lost. Emotions just get in the way.......

the same thing happened with punks in the 70's, deathrockers and glam posers in the 80's, etc. they are kids being kids. and noone really knows what 'emo' is. most people can't even discern between what is 'emo,' 'indie/metal,' or 'electro-glam.' they are just KIDS.
these people are just annoyed at the sideways fringe haircuts and trendy piercings because they are counter-cultural...and everyone is looking for an excuse to be violent against those who can't protect themselves (mob mentality).

wright on, pressrecord. I was thinking the same thing!
The other thing about the situation is that its taking place in Mexico where piercing and other things associated with the emo look is a new phenomenon. In the US and Europe we see a Emo kid and we say, "I remember those days," were in Mexico the whole machismo and gay-fearing mentality kicks in. And in a mob/gang mentality it can spread just as bad as nigger bashing in the south back in the day. It all just adds to tolerance and awareness.

they are just doing what we're all thinking (tongue and cheek you overstimulated people)

but i do hate emo: the music.

I find it deeply disturbing that people are uniting in a witch hunt against the trend of kids that's only harm will be when they grow up and look back at photo's saying "What the hell was I thinking?"
It just goes to show how much further as a species we need to go.

Wow, if only they could use their ability to organize and take a stand on something that matters rather than acting like nazis.

Pity the poor emo's. I was just in Guadalajara, Jalisco over the Christmas holiday and every time I saw them, they were always hanging out at the big, fancy malls where all the rich, white (of European descent) people shop. I was of course taking public transportation unlike the emos in their brand new cars. I don't condone the violence against the emos but this is more about the poor majority fighting back against the rich minority.
-
people should be thankful for emos and anyone else who looks/acts different from the norm, they help make our world a beautifully varied place.
-
Hey morons every generation has to upstage the last one.If it wasn't for the rock n roll generation of the 1950's or the jazz generation of the 1930's imagine how boring this world would be. Just leave the emo's alone because it's not going away.
-
okay that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Emo is just a fad. It's not fashion, it's not music, and it's definitly not a way of life. No one should be hurt over something as stupid as that.
This is just as stupid as the Matthew Shepard thing. They beat up some poor kid for no reason at all. I hate how people can be cruel to someone just because they are different. Grrr! fighting is stupid and annoying.-
