I don't believe it is all about money either, though that is certainly a large part of it as many of those who dismiss the evidence of anthropogenic climate change in the skeptics movement have received money from oil and utility companies. I also think it is religious in nature (the will of God) opposing science, it is political, and it is also about the inability to take responsibility for one's actions.
None of those reasons however, should stand in the way of truth and that is exactly what those who refuse to see the evidence are doing: standing in the way of truth. Should we actually listen to the skeptics and decades from now after the glaciers have melted, after the water has begun to dwindle, after wars are fought for land, water, food and other resources with great loss to humanity and other species, will those who claimed this was all a hoax still believe that?
Let's hope we never have to find out. Let's hope we take action now to save not only the planet that is our only home but ourselves, a rare and precious species in a rare and precious universe too precious to bow to the whims of the few who simply wish to perpetrate lies to assuage their own wants over the needs of the whole.
Therefore, thank you Mr. Gore for being our Galileo.

it's also about Nationalism , pure and simple . some people are unwilling to admit that their country could be anything less than ... perfect ? the "war on terror" is about the future of america - the idea that you have to change your lifestyle to even have a future might strike some as giving in to "terror" - it's been called " nascar patriotism " ... and i think that sounds about right .

Oh, I agree... Fear is a big reason as well, especially regarding Democracy. That is why we will not make real progress on environmental issues unless we restore Democracy, both environmental and otherwise. And that will require people speaking up.

I am waiting for the basketball game to end just to watch Mr. Gore. Thank you for the timely reminder, JanforGore. He is doing important work and his detractors are motivated by the greed of the planet's current "Robber Barons".
In the meantime, I must give an off the subject compliment to Malathion for turning me onto the phrase "Nascar Patriots". You have my eternal thanks for the uproarious laughter I will enjoy in using that expression.
That is undoubtedly one of the most incredibly fitting and descriptive expressions ever used! ROTFLMAO
It is an undeniable match to the "America, Love It or Leave It" knuckle-draggers who populate and permeate Neo-Con breeding grounds like Radio Rightyland, the FAUX "News" Channel, Climate Change denial groups, Creation Science promoters and other moral Black Holes.
It is a perfect salute to a whole sub-species that could not kick the habit of gorging on french fries so instead continued their love affair of potatoes fried in grease by re-naming them "freedom" fries.
So to those of you who think we are "fighting them over there so we won't have to fight them here" I'll tell you that Baby Jesus loves all of you - maybe even more than he loves Ricky Bobby.

People for or against global warming need to disclose their financial investments in green industries or any others that may affect the environment as well as any other conflict of interest like being on a board of such companies. There is big money here. Did Al Gore do that ? Do you know where such information is available ?
Without such transparency the environmental debate is a waste of time. It would be financially poluted. There is so much corruption !!! -
Isn't this tonight?
