On March 29, 2008 at 8 p.m., join millions of people around the world in making a statement about climate change by turning off your lights for Earth Hour, an event created by the World Wildlife Fund.
Earth Hour was created by WWF in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and in one year has grown from an event in one city to a global movement. In 2008, millions of people, businesses, governments and civic organizations in nearly 200 cities around the globe will turn out for Earth Hour. More than 100 cities across North America will participate, including the US flagships–Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco and Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.
Check out this great video.

Wow, I did'nt know that!
thanks jhaber, I'm definately going to join in that.
I'm going to tell my house mates and freinds all about it. What a great idea to have notice taken to! -
no problem. I'm trying to spread the word today. Also if you know anyone in the cities involved, they can post video and images of the event at iconflict.com.

I'm doing this as well, it sounds like fun

Hey man,da, where's my response? I plan to join the rest of the sane people (though I think there's few of us left) and turn on all of our lights, just to get your goat.

jan, from my viewpoint, it was a failed experiment. News reports said that some of the famous landmarks turned out their lights, but as for all the other high-rises in SF, I didnt see a single light go out. I'd upload the time lapse video I shot but my capture program is being retarded.

bax, turning them all off at the same time was just a symbol.
Plus, I'm pretty well-offf, not having to pay those pwer bills, with my good oldlittle solar power.
You're missing out son! -
Go janforgore, this is what I mean about hysterical thinkers? You actually believe by turning off your lights for two hours instead of one, you made a difference? Did you unplug all of your electrical cords as well, shut off your water main, shut down your furnace? Heaven help us. Go Green, purple, or orange, you guys are wacko's
-
Did you look at the response right above you?
A symbol! -
wait, how old ARE you?! My 6 year old cousin realized and understood that! The goverments did look you know! If we carry on with further action, it'll show them.
-
I guess you can't comprehend symbolism? Making your voice heard? No, of course not.

Jan, baxter is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. he's the kinda guy who would: throw out a penny 'cause he deems it worth less than nothing; leave the water running while brushing his teeth 'cause it makes no difference; vote for Bush because he has no soul; drive to a friends house a block away; beat up a person for the minutest of difference.
a typical self-centered consumer. a product of the new narcissistic generation that believes that the world is self-centric. mommy kept him at the breast too long while she ate at McD's and shopped at WalMart and her sour milk spoiled his mind and soul and his lack of self-reflection and self-awareness will result in his staunch nothingness. zero contribution. dredge of society.
probably still pays no rent, no power, no phone, no garbage & sewer. middle class unrepentant shit.
god that felt good.
i too shut the lights off for two hours. nice to get away while not away.-
