This is the place that was in "Into the Wild"....I have a feeling that with all of this recent attention, the denizens of Slab City are going to be overrun with tourists and government types.....

I have bin to slab city and salvation mountain located right next to it and it is an amazing place with a lot of amazing people... i have visited it a few times before " Into The Wild" came out and still do visit about once or twice a month to chat with, check up on, and help Leonard with salvation mountain. I have noticed a lot more tourists at salvation mountain but not many more at the city it self. The man who built and continues to build Salvation Mountain, Leonard Knight, Actually likes the fact that so many more people show up to see his mountain. He actually said that the movie was one of the best things to happen to his mountain because it got word out and now so many more young people come to see and help him out with the building of it.
If you ever want to see it up close go visit some time he loves when you help him work on the mountain and is a very nice man.... As for food you can go in to Niland which is only 5 to 10 mins down the road, the same city where they get there water, and they have stores there and a swap meet. As for the web sight. If you want to become a member of the web sigh you have to make a small donation. I can't remember but i do believe the recommend a small one of $5 but you can give as much as you want. -
