New software tells you how attractive you are

Not only do we have the media making us all insecure about our looks, now our computer can do it too! SAWEET!


"Biostatisticians at the University of Nebraska, at Lincoln, have developed a computer program that predicts how attractive a face will be considered. The software employs an array of measurements on the geometry and symmetry of the face, like the proportions between the eyes, nose, ears and lips, which so many studies connected to formulas of the beauty."

For the development of the program they tested actual people, "18 men and 18
women aged 19 to 61. The subjects were presented images of 420 people randomly selected from the general population, 50% men and 50% women, and were put to mark the facial attractiveness on a scale of one to 10. "

"Attractive feminine faces had smaller chins, smaller noses and a larger inter-ocular distance. The data revealed that a smaller width of the mouth was perceived more attractive in women, challenging the "trout" lips preferred currently in the fashion world. Attractive male faces had equal vertical thirds and symmetry between the upper tips of the lips and the nose. "

  • hmm...well i had a brain tumor removed 4 years ago..and my head is a little crooked, but you can only tell if i tell you.

    my bottom teeth are crooked, and my legs are 30" around yet my waist is only 32-33

    im stocky but not fat..i look short because of my legs, yet im 6ft tall

    and with all that.......IM HOT AS HELL!

    does that machine doo-hickey tell you all that?

  • Well I won't argue with a software that measures "symmetric"( beauty of form arising from balanced proportions) and judges ones looks from that. However, my best sense of how someone looks, is how I perceive them after I get to know them.

    I have seen folks who are very symmetric and the more I got to know them, there symmetric seemed to melt away.

    I have known folks who are not "symmetric" and they are some of the most beautiful people I have ever seen.

    I think that I like to think of looks like Miss Piggy:

    "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye."

  • But you won't get to know everyone you look at. So you're always going to have an initial sense of how beautiful some one is on the outside. I'm pretty sure there are people that are attractive, but are really bad. They continue to be attractive, even though they act like turds.

    This particular piece of software seems to be measuring the face only though. So it's only going by looks.
