US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has suggested that President Bush should consider boycotting the opening ceremony of the Olympics this summer in protest against China's human rights record.
"I think boycotting the opening ceremony, which really gives respect to the Chinese government, is something that should be kept on the table," Pelosi told 'Good Morning America'. "I think the president might want to rethink this later, depending on what other heads of state do."
Bush has said he intends to meet with China's president during his trip to see the Games this August. His administration has criticised China, a massive trade partner of the US, of human rights abuses in the past.

Other world leaders have debated over whether or not they should attend the Olympics, such as French President Nicolas Sarkozy who said he may skip the opening ceremonies.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she will skip the Olympics.
Prince Charles said in January he has "no plans to attend the ceremony."
-
We saw with Jimmy Carter that America boycotting the Olympics only hurts the athletes.
The Olympic Committee should not have chosen China in the first place.
Nancy Pelosi should do her job and impeach Bush and Cheney.
Bush shouldn't go to the opening ceremonies.
He should be in Congress getting impeached along with Cheney for his crimes against America and humanity.
Nancy Pelosi should listen to the majority of American people and begin impeachment hearings for the crimes of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney immediately.
Why does Pelosi think Americans elected a Democratic majority in Congress in 2006?
It's almost 2 years later and these criminals are still in the White House continuing their crime spree against the world.
Pelosi is a great disappointment to all Americans who voted to change leadership in this Congress.
What has the Democratic led Congress done to end the war?
Zilch.
Congress must impeach Bush and Cheney for their crimes, or we will never be able to convince the world that Americans did not and do not condone what they did in our name and with our tax money.
What kind of country is this where Congress impeaches a President against the will of over 70% of American citizens. for lying about something personal that no decent person would ask another, but Congress won't impeach a president and vice-president whose administration lied to wage a pre-emptive war, tortures and legislates that torture is acceptable, and spies on its own citizens, kills 4,000 U.S. soldiers and hundreds of thousands to millions of Iranians and wages a war that over 70% of Americans want stopped immediately? Some democracy.
Write Nancy Pelosi and your Congressional representative. Demand that she honor the will of over 3/4 of the people and begin impeachment proceedings against George W. Bush and Dick Cheney today.

I do not like her. For a lot of reasons one has to do with the fact she hates Stephan Colbert. But I do agree with her on this one.
-
man , i can just see the next prez blaming an impeached Bush for this mess whenever anything they do to fix things fails . say what you will , there has never been a president whom hasn't had to deal with the BS left over from his predecessor - it's a presidents job to deal with the situations at hand - the american public voted Bush in for a 2nd term - you wanna blame someone ? blame america -blame the hummer drivers , blame "suburbia" , blame the oft blamed "military industrial complex" blame whomever ye will - it won't do anything towards reducing this country's need to be involved in the mid east until ocean levels rise to the point that the pentagon itself is underwater or capitol hill has to be protected by sandbags .
-
Who is Nancy Pelosi to be telling anyone else what to do? If she had done her job Bush wouldn't be going anywhere.

Save Dafur and Tibet.
Iraq and the U.S., while we're at it.
Save the whole world, no exceptions. -
I like Nancy Pelosi, but she's Speaker of the House and the Democrats have the majority, for the moment. The people voted the Dems in because they wanted CHANGE way back in 2006. Where is it now?
Why isn't Speaker Pelosi following the will of the people to get us out of Iraq, impeach Bush and Cheney, implement universal health care, jumpstart the economy, stop global warming, and green the economy?
We shouldn't have to wait for another election to get this work started.
Our soldiers shouldn't have to wait another day, let alone until January 2009 to come home.
How many more soldiers and Iraqis will die while we wait for a change in leadership?
We have Senators and Congress people. They're getting paid by us taxpayers and others. They should start leading and set our nation back on course. And Speaker Pelosi could show real leadership by making them stay in session until they begin impeachment proceedings and end the war in Iraq.
Americans shouldn't have to wait another day for our leaders to rebuild our moral standing in the world.
When a ship is totally off course, the first important step is to stop and turn it around, not continue full speed in the same direction wreaking havoc until everybody can agree exactly how to turn the ship around.
Our children, and the children of the world, shouldn't have to wait another day to have peace and health care, real education, safe shelter and access to healthy food and clean air and water.
It's time for all the Senators and Congressmen to stop blaming every one else and the system and stop making excuses and do what is right.
Congress spends trillions on war, billions on graft and waste, Nancy Pelosi should make sure they spend some money and time on getting the work of the people done.
What are they waiting for?
Check out conservative Bruce Fein on why impeaching Bush and Cheney is imperative.

who exactly is the "we're " that should be out saving the world ? america ? the well intentioned rhetorical "we" doesn't exist - while appealing to some metaphysical moral imperative sounds good enough , it's just about as "realistic" as asking jesus to come on down and rescue humanity from itself - while we americans have the pleasure of sitting back and commentating about mans inhumanity , other peeps would love to be armed with enough ak-47's to keep their enemies at bay ... sorry , the whole "peace , love and harmony " thing is hippie BS.
name one permanent member of the UN security council which isn't a " nuclear super-power" - "freedom " comes down to this - you are able to kill your oppressors in sufficient numbers to deter any idea your oppressors may have to wipe you off the face of the earth . you wanna save tibet or darfur ? contribute some coin towards arming the people there . -
We, is each person, who can choose to live as a human being in right relation to other people and living things on earth.
Malathion wrote - "sorry , the whole "peace , love and harmony " thing is hippie BS."
Ha, ha, ha,. "hippie BS"?
Like the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - "I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word."

mel...america is in no position to save anyone. nor would it. we're is humanity. those people that have the sense to know. if i owned blackwater, id go to africa, and snipe all the fucked up military units committing attrocities ...id go to burma.....do them..go to russia and do them...well maybe not russia...but id be too busy in africa. the world OWES africa. not helping with aids.. not helping the nations after europe left. stealing their nat resources... yes the we're is all of us not in africa.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Martin Luther King, Jr. -
"refuse" as you care to , according to your conscience- the "final word" is a monosyllabic utterance which sounds something like this : "arrrr" - roughly interpreted , it's the sound a human being emits after they've been shot by some individual they didn't have the power to kill first .

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. - Nobel Prize Laureate Acceptance Speech.
"Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. I am not unmindful of the fact that violence often brings about momentary results. Nations have frequently won their independence in battle. But in spite of temporary victories, violence never brings permanent peace. It solves no social problem: it merely creates new and more complicated ones. Violence is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding: it seeks to annihilate rather than convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destroys community and makes brotherhood impossible. It leaves society in monologue rather than dialogue. Violence ends up defeating itself. It creates bitterness in the survivors and brutality in the destroyers." -

Every day, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton's campaigns for President are spending money to convince Americans they should be president and they'll change things then.
Well, they are both Senators now.
I challenge Senator Clinton and Senator Obama to go into the Senate and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to go into Congress tomorrow and begin impeachment proceedings against President Bush and Vice-President Cheney and begin the first steps to end this illegal war, stop legalizing torture, bring our soldiers home and start healing the nation tomorrow. We can't wait another day.
They want to lead America. Let's tell them to start leading right now before another person dies. -
"freedom through firepower" - that's the world now - welcome to the machine . in the mix of bringing soldiers home , ending the "war" , impeaching Bush , etc. , how should "homeland security" be dealt with ? hysterics and propaganda aside , just toppling the Bush monolith still leaves the issue of how this country is to be protected from exactly the kind of attack which led to Bush's war in the first place . i'm all for ridding this country of the Bush "legacy" , but while the witch hunt is going on i have yet to hear anyone in any responsible capacity address homeland security in any detail . is america supposed to become isolationist ? if the issue of homeland security ( comprehensively ) isn't dealt with , i don't see that another "war" can be ruled out , despite impeaching Bush . impeaching Bush isn't gonna make anyone with a trigger finger and a hatred for the US just disappear . this country will still be a target , thanks to Bush or not .

Has Pelosi done else besides complain about everuone else?
-
Speaker Pelosi came to the Realizing the Dream report to Congress on Poverty in America last October. She was one of the few Congressmen who came besides the dedicated leaders in the Out of Poverty Caucus like John Lewis, Barbara Lee, Joe Baca and others.
-
Seriously, Nancy. WTF. Bush should do a lot of things but this is NOT the top of my list for him.
-
Homeland Security is attained by America growing our own food, saving more than we spend, and not going to other countries to bomb and torture people and steal their natural resources.
The United States already had a totally capable and adequate Homeland Security defense against attacks like the 9/11 attacks. It's called the US Armed Services including the world's most expert air force that could have shot most or all of those planes out of the sky as soon as they violated NYC and DC airspace. But Cheney had sent the air force out over Greenland for a test of war games.
Homeland Security is our elected Democratic majority taking back control of our country and impeaching and indicting the Bush and Cheney who have hijacked our democracy by terrorizing Americans with fear of attacks.
Frankin Deleanor Roosevelt said, "The only thing to fear is fear itself." Goebel outlined how to control a nation by exploiting and exacerbating fear in the people. We have to reject fear and demand that the rule of law applies to everyone, including the President and Vice-President.
Homeland Security is bringing our troops home and our national guard back to their communities where they belong and are needed. -
the largest part of "homeland security" operations , TouchArt , is "intelligence gathering " , which is a different thing entirely from having "armed forces" ready to shoot ... know what i mean ?
-
We had the intelligence to see planes violating NYC and DC airspace. Why weren't the planes escorted out of the area by our superb fighter pilots or shot down before they hit? Before 9/11, most Americans assumed there were some sentries on duty guarding the skies around our major cities and maybe our sea coasts and borders. That's pretty basic security. Think they figured stuff like that out during the Revolutionary and War of 1812. Apparently not during Bush's and Condeleeza Rice's watch.
-
Well, though America does have the best military in the world and the most loyal to the Commander in Chief ,knowing your orders would be carried out could you start shooting passenger jets out of the sky not knowing where they would fall.
