Remix Radiohead's New Single -- for $5?!

Hmmm... after releasing their new album using a revolutionary new business model (pay what you want)... why the hell is Radiohead making fans pay for their new song 5 times in order to remix it?! Absurd.

You have to buy each "stem" (bass, voice, guitar, strings/fx and drums tracks) from Radiohead's new single "Nude" individually from iTunes. Then you can mix them however you want and post them on a site for others to listen to and vote on.

Thanks but no thanks.

  • Wow, pretty weak.

  • yeah the $5 bit blows, but it is totally awesome that they are making the individual instrument tracks avail... i dont think anyone has ever done that before, have they? many a dj & producer have only dreamed of this... if it were only 33 cents a track it would be just plain rad.

  • Not to play the NIN card, but Mr. Reznor offers several multitracks for free that can be remixed and shared over at remix.nin.com

That makes this look even weaker.

  • I'm not saying NIN is bad, but would you reather mix NIN songs or Radiohead songs? It would be fun to mix NIN songs for free, but i think Radiohead songs would be a lot better to mix than NIN songs if you have the extra $5 to spend on it.

  • I was wondering whether this was something to do with licensing vs. a sale so I had a look at the Terms and Conditions (imagining that the remixer of the work would be given a fair deal, making the $5 slice much more reasonable.... my god, I was very very wrong)

  • i guess in a way it balances out though...radiohead sold their album for free, even though they really dont need the money from a new album, i guess its only fair to charge for other things like the remix stems, i mean....its only 5 bucks, a new album would cost about 15
