I think there's an interesting story to tell about the tent cities.

there was an article, i think i the NY Times, it was in the architecture section I believe, talking about the projects being torn down, and replaced despite being built from more sturdy materials than the replacement. Some of the old projects were very unique and attractive as well. maybe this is an added angle for your story?

maybe hear from others who are trying to help the homeless in N.O.

I pass this everyday. I feel so bad and I am researching ways for my students and youth program to be of the most help

As if abandoning them for a week was'nt bad enough hungh. More to add to this story is the way the insurance companies forced alot of these people into this impoverished state. Gotta love our gub'ment!

Why do so many people think it's the role of the government to solve all our problems. The government didn't create the hurricane. Maybe you don't think the government has done enough. But listen, 200 year ago the purpose of the government was to protect it's citizens in case of war from the outside. Now, people think the government should build them new homes.

That's not all to say that I don't feel for the people who have been displaced. It's very unfortunate.

Money for jails, wardens, constables, barbed wire, concrete, etc etc etc but no money for housing these victims of an "Act Of God?" Does anyone else think this is something else that stinks about the system of government in place right now? It is so wrong.

Not really a supporter of the validation of victims. Being a victim is a matter of course in our existence. The conspiracy against the city and FIMA is not a resolution to the problem. The victims need help yes, but after 3 years they also need to help themselves. Where is the coverage of the success stories from this disaster. Where are the people that accepted the reality of the disaster and empowered themselves to 'take up there mats and walk'? Support fear and reactive behavior and you will be a victim. Support clarity and proactive behavior and you will free a victim.

that's the attitude to keep, AdventureBTV. yet denying problems or "conspiracies" isn't necessarily progressive either, especially if there's some truth to them...maybe something people NEED to be aware of just to be proactive, or properly poised, as oft history unlearned is history repeated.

i live in portland where a lot of homeless people fought long to keep their tent city alive - it's called dignity village

i think fixing your audio transitions could really help up the quality of the piece

Unfortunately, there's a long history of racism in New Orleans and it doesn't look like things are going to change any time soon.
