Dieselsweeties is hilarious. If you've never checked it out, you should.
He makes a great point here. there's so much activity on Twitter these days. From meetups and news to general socializing during work hours. It seems like many are becoming addicted.
By the way, Current.com is on Twitter now, too. Join the fun.

Can someone explain to me, in words my mother would understand, how Twitter works, and why it is fun?
No one over here seems to have hooked on to it yet...-

I personally never got into Twitter, I don't understand the use of posting any old random crap whenever.
@ kristianbrodie:
Twitter is basically an outlet for you to send really short (140 character) messages to all your friends, as well as to see what your friends are "tweeting". So you could say "Good morning", or "Going to the gym", or make a quick rant.-

CommonCraft put together an explainer of Twitter that pretty much sums it up...check it out.

Konstantino, I used to agree completely. Never seemed to be a point to "posting any old random crap" for others to read.
I still don't think there's a point to posting any old random crap, but I also don't think that's the only thing that happens on Twitter. Certainly it happens to a degree, but what made me a convert was the number of helpful links, articles, updates, and questions my friends and colleagues were posting throughout the day. In a way, Twitter was/is a news aggregator from the people I want to hear from most... and I can choose whoever I want.
It's been valuable for me - much more so than pointless - but I also believe you have to be intentional about your usage.-
