The Raw Story: Pentagon Papers leaker calls Iraq invasion 'supreme war crime'

Fear of war with Iran has overpowered my thoughts. The drums have been beating, getting louder by the day. My heart races every time I contemplate the effects of war with Iran. There are people who spoke out before we went into Iraq; they were stating facts to back up their views. They were written off, overruled by spin. It’s 5 years later and we now have facts to support their claims; the Iraq War was wrong.

Listening now, I hear those same individuals talking about Iran and the same ‘talking heads’, spinning the same spin about Iran. I’m sorry but given the choice, I’ll choose the ones who were right before.

Lately, I have been in a panic, trying to post the voices of people who were right before, thinking if I could get their voices out there, people would know and George W. would be afraid to start World War III. He has even spoke of it. Why not panic? Do we trust his word? Do we trust his facts? Has his intelligence been wrong before? What will happen this time if he is wrong? Will Russia take it as a challenge? They have warned that an attack on Iran is an attack on them. Do we have a nuclear submarine heading to the area? Do we have aircraft carriers stationed in the area? Did you read the stories back in ’07 about Iran, Russia and China doing joint war games? I did. Did you read about the nuclear bombs moving by plane across America by accident? No kidding, nukes could be moved by accident?

In my PANIC to spread the word, I typed the wrong word in this heading. I typed Iran instead of Iraq. I have realized, it’s time to take a breath. One of my favorite quotes ‘When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on’. I’m gonna take today and tie my knot, but I hope the rest of the concerned writers keep posting and spreading the word. It’s too important not to! I’ll be back. Tomorrow is another day.

Peace!

  • When our economy implodes, we won't be able to go to war anymore.

  • There is an error in the headline, did it mean to say "Iraq Invasion" instead of "Iran Invasion" or was that a Freudian Slip?

  • What's that age old expression? Ah, yes.
"If you play with fire, you're going to get burned."
There must be thorough accountability for duping an entire nation into a ideological war on terror, that can't possibly be won, based on deception.
It's not just GWB's guilt to be dealt with. It's everyone going back through the timeline from the select group in Texas who outlined the war's stategy to the first person who suggested derailing the war to go after Hussein to where we stand right now in senseless death and destruction.
If further investigation finds a link between the administration and what lead up to the twin towers falling, so be it.
If US citizens don't demand highest criminal charges against all involved, we will doom ourselves to being seen from the world's perspective as vulnerable, gullible fools, ripe for the picking and ill-equiped to handle a war on US soil.
We must show the world that we can take care of ourselves by prosecuting our own war criminals.

  • Ellsberg's speech certainly does summarize the horrors that Bush and his group have visited upon our (formerly great) country. and I agree: they will have to be held accountable in order for us to recover economically AND morally, and they will have to be held accountable for us to regain legitimate status on the world stage. very determined, clear-headed people will have to move into the white house and into congress for the right accountability to take place so that we don't lose more than we gain in the process. I also believe that "we, the people" play a vital role in this accountability process: we have a voice. let us use it loud and strong and insist that right action (as a buddhist would put it) occur.

  • Only difference between what Cheney/Bush do and what every other administration do, is the other one's may have been just sneaking around and pretending not to be doing bad stuff, and Cheney/Bush gives everybody 2 or 3 months to draw a crowd so nobody will miss seeing how "bad" they are. (machiavellian)

This insures that when the next administration comes in, they will look and seem like they are a morally correct group, and they can actually be doing the same things Cheney/Bush did.

We have wars where we send in the troops after we use surgical strikes to take out all the water treatment plants. There are 30,000 children die of starvation. Then we blockade the country so water treatrment plants can't be rebuilt.

We have democratically elected leaders of other countries who are kidnapped by our "intel" community and then replaced by people who will be docile and obediant to our corporations doing business in those countries.

We have to be very careful to be sure the government we elect next, isn't tied in to the past administrations, regardless whether they sneak around and commit war crimes or whether they give 2 or 3 months to draw a crowd to watch them do the bad stuff.

All those past administrations publish CPI and unemployment data that is a bunch of c******p. They just want the record to show that they did better then they did. All those past administrations have allowed our employers to exploit workers, whether they are domestic or illegal. And the reason we have to put up with this exploitation is because workers and the military/veterans have no power.

The reason I insist that other administrations do the same things that Cheney/Bush do, is not that I'm defending these thugs, I just don't want to see the political debate limited to how bad or stupid the present one is. Because if we DO allow a candidate to downgrade an opponent because the opponent has less experience, then we may just be asking for the next administration to be just the sneaky version of the present one.

  • My concern is that this administration has gotten so used to (yet, still not very good at) sleight-of-hand tactics to obscure the truth that they'll continue after their terms to mangle the facts while re-writing legacies.
There's too much to lose for them not to.

  • perpetual war is what drives US! We need it...we love it...don't we? We "elect" defense contractors and "military men" into office...don't we? Our strongest corporations with the most influence are in bed with the defense department. We love violence soooo much we entertain ourselves with it practically 24/7 with ufc or some other form.
Iran? if you don't think CIA is already there scoping it out then you're drunk. And if it isn't Iran...it most certainly will be Venezuela or Korea v2.0. Enemy? hell we can fabricate one of those quick enough to keep the ball rollin. War is BIG business....BIG money...and the #1 policy maker in the US.

The only difference between what Cheney/Bush did is; getting caught using phony documents and out and out lying to US to start a pre-emptive war on a country that had not killed one American and was not openly threatening us, with no accountability.. Scooter Libby was found guilty and didn’t spend a day in jail? This administration outed a Covert Agent with no accountability. They destroyed the evidence? They were caught authorizing torture, with the documentd to prove it, with no accountability? They didn’t react to Katrina with as much early assistance as they would have sent to another country. Laws have been implemented for Martial Law, letting George W. over-rule Congress. You lead by example. They are some fine examples? NOT!

Signing statements circumvent our Constitution, with no accountability? We have round the clock news, how can this happen. Well I’ll tell ya, mainstream media have been co-conspirators, giving us fluff news (Britney, Paris, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol) instead of real news. Sometimes they throw in some propaganda and act as though it wasn’t planted. George W. has been caught planting news stories, using actors to appear as journalists, with no accountability. Never have journalists been so negligent in their efforts. Keith Olberman, Jon Stewart and Colbert have been a light in these dark times. Two of them are from a comedy channel, they are funny and sad.

Today, there are hundred of Ellsberg’s out there. They know the secrets. They know the truth. Do they think when the shit hits the fan, they will get to go into the special hiding places with the armchair warriors. I’m afraid not, they will be huddled with their families like the rest of us, wishing for what we had before George W. and perpetual war. Will they wait too long?

  • Osama bin Laden killed 3,000 Americans unnecessarily on 9/11.

The Bush Criminal Regime has killed 4,000+ Americans unnecessarily in the Iraq War.

Therefore, Bush is more dangerous to Americans than bin Laden.

    Yes, it's that simple.

  • No, no. The fed will continue to feed off of war because they profit from the interest the government borrows. The economy wont fail. The poor will just lose their chance at the American Dream, if they have not already.
