And get us some alternative energy! I would be thrilled to purchase an electric car from a power company run by solar and wind energy. Besides, once we're free of the oil that is going to run out in 20 to 40 years, maybe we can actually start fixing all the problems we caused with the Middle East because of that darned black gold.

I haven't owned a car in over a year and surprisingly I've adjusted my life around it fairly well. I bought a bike and with my longboard and the way public transportation is in Seattle I don't see myself needing a car for quite sometime. That said I have seen the prices come down at the pumps from 3.78 to 3.43 over the last week at my local Shell pump. Still insanely high and still above the national average but it's nice to see them go down once in a while.

I recommend that we all revisit those who had some successes in drawing Dark Energy from the vacuum - Viktor Schaugerger, Wilhelm Reich, Royal Rife, Nikola Tesla. Look into the Joe Cell (Google it). Check out Zero Point Energy (Dark Energy).
Do experiments. The more of us out there trying to get truly free energy, the better. The numbers of successes will be such that they can't quash them all. And then...
Since money, in its final analysis, is representative of an exchange of energy, once we have our own energy, money will become moot. With today's tech, we can build heaven on earth, having rid ourselves of that which, when worshiped, is the root of all evil. -
I like the way you guys think.
I'll be looking forward to your new heaven on earth Amaterasu. However, I think we will always have money. It will just equate to another necessity. Time was once and still is one of those necessities. Money may just take another form. -
hobs,
If money represents, in the final analysis, an exchange of energy - the farmer's efforts (energy) to capture energy from the sun in his crops, the energy expended to cut the trees for the desks we sit at, the energy to transport things, the energy to run cars, the energy to get the energy... All can be broken down to a transfer, in one form or another, to the exchange of energy.
Today, the energy is effectively a finite quantity (there is only so much we can economically extract), and so the money keeps track of the amount of energy in our "system." If we have an infinite supply of energy, money would have no point of reference.
And with no point of reference, there can be no value placed on it. With no value... Well, gee. I think we wouldn't need it.
Sure there would be a transition period, but with today's tech, about to take off into incredible directions, with free energy, we would not have to work (though we still could if we wanted to), having all our needs supplied by robotics and such.
All our energy needs would be met and surpassed.
Heaven on earth. [shrug]
Read my story that describes how it would likely play out at:
http://home.earthlink.net/~amaterasu/story2.html
That should clear it up. [smile] -
Amaterasu,
Sounds good. Can't wait. I still believe we will still have to have some form of currency. Unless we all can make our own robotics. Including the components for those robotics.
To be completely self sufficient is possible only when you live in very simple terms. When you want to build a log cabin, for example, you can only make it so big when you do it alone. It can only be simple. No two story cabins. One man cannot raise the main beam by himself.
However, if you do really get rid of money, you will still have the barter system. "I'll help you build your two story cabin, but you have to help me with mine".
I do like your idea, and I'm not trying to discourage or make fun of it. I just can't see it in true society. You seem very intelligent. A scientist perhaps. The fact of the matter is not everyone is smart enough to be self sufficient. Are you going to take care of all of those people? What if I have something you want? I'm I just going to give it to you because I'm a nice guy?
In your perfect world, yes. I would. Humans can't live in a world like that. It has always been about want and not need. I have everything I need. But I don't have everything I want. The question comes to what you are willing to give for your wants. If we no longer have money, We will have to use the barter system. What ever becomes most wanted by many persons will become the next money.
I do hope I am wrong. I always seem to play devil's advocate.
I did like your story. I'll have to read it again. Is this black energy the same as black matter? -
sorry I meant dark matter not black matter.
-
hobs,
Dark Energy and and Dark Matter are two different things. Dark Matter was the first to be "discovered" with Dark Energy following shortly thereafter.
One thing you aren't seeing is the development of AI - artificial intelligence. We will build robots who can do the building for us. They will do the mining, and the smelting, and the forming, the assembly, the building, the lifting, the cooking, the cleaning, the laundry, the growing of food, the processing of food, the making of beds, the shopping, the maintenance, and on it will go.
Once you realize how close we are to having all this, with plenty of energy for everyone... You can see that we CAN build heaven.
A lot of what you describe would fall into a transitional stage. A lot of it would not happen unless we totally collapsed. Went back to a lower tech level. Found ourselves beaten before we began.
But if we had many, many people producing their own energy, they will have heat and cold, flame to cook on, and power to get around. And things won't collapse.
So... We'll see where things go from here. Free energy will mean so much. Let's get to it! -
Amaterasu,
I have finished reading all of your story. What a story. I must say. Wow. I think you have a great imagination. I also think you should research some of your facts a little more before claiming it to be reality. All in all I liked it.
Jkateel,
If your still reading this, sorry we high-jacked your post. I had not intentions of doing so. Thank you for posting this, a very important topic. Perhaps if we all shout a little louder to our representatives, they will start to listen. It would help if we shout the same message. Thanks again.
Devo64,
Good for you. I think you have been doing a great thing. Not just for you but the rest of us. -
Hobs...
Interesting you should say that. Can you be more specific? Would it be better if we adjourned to other venues? Or should we further discuss this here where others involved can see what is brought up and discussed? -
Hobs,
I mean about researching my facts... -
Your call

Start a new venue if you want. Let me know where.
It was just a story. So I guess the facts don't have to be completely correct. Most of your facts on Hemp were correct. I don't know about THC doing anything to fight cancer. I do know it helps the cancer patients coop with the whole thing. Just for starters.
At what point in your story does A.I. take over? Will A.I. ever become self aware? That's a dangerous proposition. I know just like in the movies. Guess I would fit into that category of the naysayers in your story. :) -
Well, I am going to say that I researched everything where someone or something was named. The Joe Cell, Zero Point Energy, Dark Energy, Wilhelm Reich, Viktor Schauberger, Royal Rife, Nikola Tesla... And I know an inventor of a metal foam process that looks very promising, and I wrote that in for him.
Check this out here on current for an idea of what hemp/merijuana offers:

AI will grow as we develop it for our various tasks. It's "DNA" is our program initially, and it will be geared to solve problems specific to its task. Whether it will develop sentience or not remains to be seen, but I would doubt it.
I don't think, if given a purpose of taking care of us in some aspect of our lives, that they will ever become UNhappy as long as their driving purpose is fulfilled.
Just like us. Pretty much. -
I hope it's true.
-
Let's just say I have a gift. I see paths and probabilities to the future. Right now, without free energy...things don't look so good. With it, we have a fighting chance.
And that chance is very much worth it.
