By: Chip Collis - - I have noted a number of myths amongst the comments here as to why Hillary should stay in the race. Here are ten enduring, kudzu-like myths, with the debunking they sorely need . . .
1. Myth: This race is tied.
No, actually, it's not. Obama has the lead in number of states won, in pledged delegates and in overall delegates. Nothing will happen in the remaining primaries to substantially change that. As to the one thing Hillary does lead in, superdelegates, her quickly shrinking margin is among DNC personnel only. When you look at the elected superdelegates, Congressman, Senators and Governors (i.e. people who actually work with both Obama and Clinton) Obama leads there, too.

"A snowball's chance in a Saint Louis July"
What a great image - I love it! Hope you don't mind if I borrow that phrase, rage. -
Maybe we could just give her a different country to be in charge of?
She seems to think she has a superhuman level of experience, grit, and gumption (loved the Rocky comparison) to solve any crisis (3am or any other time) --- so why not put her where her, uh, unique skill-set could do the most good?
Hillary Clinton: President of Iraq!
It just feels right. -
Rage, I love your descriptions. I can almost see you as a kid. That would be cute. On a sixty something it isn't attractive.

Bull. Regardless of the media spin, the reality is far more different. Obama and Clinton are in a virtual tie. This fantasy that whoever is leading in pledged delegates is the end all and be all is pure spin.
*Neither* candidate can reach enough pledged delegates alone to win the nomination. The supers will play the critical factor (Currently, Clinton has the lead in declared supers with most remaining silent). However, the only way for Obama to win the nomination before the convention (on supers) or on the first ballot at the convention is to not count or disenfranchise MI and FL--which *is* possible--but would ensure he loses the GE.
If this goes to the convention, Clinton will have more than enough members (20% min.) on the credentials committee to issue a minority report, it'll most likely go to the floor. And then it'd be an all-out brawl.
Again, the race is a tie and it could go either way. I do realize though that the perpetuation of this myth can become a self-fulfilling prophecy because of people like those who posted the comments above. The same thing happened in Florida 2000, which presented Gore as some pitiful loser who was out to hurt the country.
@crob80277: Well, why not have Obama make a pretty speech to make all of Iraq's problems go away? Yes, he can!-

Has anyone asked themselves why, if Obama is for "change" and he accuses our government of not doing their jobs and not doing the right thing but he is going to change all of that, why the very same people he is supposed to be against WANT him so bad?
And on the same note, has anyone noticed that so many Republican senators and congressmen and news commentators are in love with him? Do you guys really think that it is because he is so wonderful and smart. Do you really think it is because he is so "bipartisian"? Or do you think maybe it is for some other reason that makes more sense? Ask yourseves this, if some new boss came in to your job and said "you all suck, and I am going to change all of that, and put an end to all of this goofing off" do you think that the whole place would be praying he gets the job? Or do you think they would rather have a new boss that is going to make their job easier? They dont want "change", they dont want somebody that is going to make them work harder or make them stop spending our money on stupid stuff or vacations, and I am sure they dont want somebody that is going to make them stop taking money from people that are buying their votes. That's why they didnt want Al Gore. -
You are right. Obama is being backed by the nuclear industry, the military, and all the electric utility corporations who want to build new nuclear power plants. All done on an "individual" level to make it look like it's not the corporations.
-
There are over one hundred nuclear power plants in the United States. Someone besides Obama allowed them to be built. Before we crucify him for that one vote lets gather up the people that allowed the others to be built and get them too. I don't like nuclear power. Let's imagine one hundred more coal fired power plants, and fast forward this global warming. Until we get some green energy going we are stuck with nuclear. Unless you can live without electricity?

Good point Marilynn.
futuregen, you're swallowing the Clinton propaganda on how Obama is "backed" by the nuclear industry. You can go to opensecrets.org and see who is donating to everyone campaign. Consider how much money he's raised and the unprecedented numbers of people who have donated then ask yourself if any one donor is going to "purchase" favor. It's an illogical conclusion.
And I promise you, the Military Industrial Complex wants Hillary to win the nomination. -
And btw...Chip Colis is very funny. Great post.

Hillary thinks she’s entitled to the Presidency, therefore, voting is a formality for her and Bill. She was not concerned about the people of Florida and Michigan when she signed the pledge on Sept 1st, 2007 that “sought to preserve the status of traditional early-voting states and bring order to an unwieldy series of primaries that threatened to accelerate the selection process.” New York Times
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/02/us/politics/02dems.ht...
The pledge stated the candidates would not campaign in either Florida or Michigan and the delegates from each state would not be seated at the convention if their primary’s were held sooner than scheduled by the DNC. Hillary, along with all the other Democratic Presidential candidates signed this pledge.
More Myth’s:
2) I am Pro Union, but I served on the Board of Wal-Mart for 6 years

3) I am against the war in Iraq, but I voted for the war in Iraq

4) I’m the candidate who will bring the troops home sooner, but I voted for Kyle-Lieberman to invite an invasion into Iran

5) I will provide universal health insurance, but I will force you to buy it

6) I supported NAFTA, but now I oppose NAFTA
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/03/20/opinion/main3...
7) I helped to bring peace to Northern Ireland, but Lord Maginnis: “I do remember her coming to Northern Ireland…but in terms of being involved in the talks, absolutely not.”

8) I was involved for 15 years in foreign policy and security policy, but in fact, I didn’t have a security clearance or didn’t attend a single national security meeting.

9) I was named after Sir Edmund Hillary, but he didn’t climb Mt. Everest until 5 years after I was born

This is still our country and it's up to us what happens to it, no matter who we elect. Dig into your pockets and support the Democratic candidates in your district or it won't matter much who we elect for president. We have to have a majority in both the senate and congress or we won't be able to undo the damage from Bush. We want and need change. I believe Obama will make that change but not without our help. We have to give him the help he will need. Don't let the DLC run this show or it will be more of the same. We can't afford it or we lose the whole game.

Forgot the biggest one to date: On a trip to Bosnia, “I remember landing under sniper fire, there was suppose to be some kind of greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles...,” but really I was greeted by an 8 yr old girl with a poem on the tarmac as the video footage shows.

Pwdrskir...droppin' the knowledge!
Thanks for the posts and the links. It's great to see your insights, even better to see them backed up. -

Thank you Chique. That is the very best campaign song yet.

well unfortunately for you all....it DOESN'T matter who you vote for...they are all bought and paid for by our beloved corporatocracy whether you like it or not. I have a running bet on hillary to win simply because she is by far the shadiest of the bunch. Because after all...isn't that the determining factor anymore? We all know votes don't matter one bit anymore. We ALL know our current president was NOT "elected" so what makes you think the next one will be? Elections are not "won"...they are purchased!

Appreciate it, just trying to keep the Truth: “Something which would probably upset a great many people if it were known and made public.”
-
ablindeye: I think we have a long way to go to reach enlightenment on the scale that needs be to really "change" this system.

Jackstowne....nicely done! You are on the mark.

Hillary Clinton started off this campaign as one of the most powerful candidates....EVER!
The Clinton Political Machine consists of Bill Clinton, one of the most universally recognized and beloved Presidents in history -- Bill clinton has more donors, more political connection and more raw political power than any of us mere mortals can understand.
Hillary has more name recongintion, more donors, more political connections than any of the other Dem candidate combined.
And some unknown Senator with a funny Muslim sounding name beat her ass.
The Hillary-supporters want to shrug this off as if it was always close.
Bullshit.
This is the political equivalent of a 98 pound Woody Allen knocking out Mike Tyson in the 2nd round! The scope of the ass-kicking Obama is handing to the all-powerful Clinton machine defies imagination. It's simply the upset of the century.
The fact that the candidate with the most raw political power (Hillary) is getting her ass handed to her by a UNKNOWN Senator with a Muslim sounding name is proof positive that Hillary's "support" among the Dem voters was always shaky. At best!
There's no getting around it -- Hillary Clinton was the Beast who had the raw power to EASILY win this nomination.
Except for one small problem.
No one can stand her. -
Crob, Your post are always really good. This one borders on Great. I like that you are not only factual but funny.

Hillary also seems to have embraced the myth that "Rocky" won!
-
i hope he means
now
* Oil 40%
* Natural gas 22%
* Coal 23%
* Nuclear 8%
* Renewable Energy 7%
in 8 years:
* Oil 10%
* Natural gas 5%
* Coal 5%
* Nuclear 2%
* Renewable Energy 78%

To help clarify Chique’s point about Hillary’s mythical delegate counting. Slate has the Delegate counter, give it a try. There is no way she can mathematically win.
Jonathan Alter of Newsweek also breaks it down on the radio.
