NBC's Washington Bureau Chief,Tim Russert breaks down the numbers for November’s electoral map.

He analyzes the most likely scenarios positing a Barak Obama/John McCain national election that skews the electoral map to the point we end up with a 269/269 national electoral tie; the election then would go to the Democrat-controlled House and the rest is history.

  • Scary. Very scary.
Why do we let just two groups of people have the political power of such a diverse collection of minds?
    hobs
  • ...because broad coalitions are absolutely essential if a government intends to accomplish anything.

if the us congress were to fracture into three or more parties, no legislation would ever get passed and business would come to a grinding halt very quickly...unless someone rewrites the constitution....do the math.

"diverse collection of minds" = diverse collection of a-holes, opinions, special interests

more like divisive* collection of minds who get to come together once every four years to figure out exactly what we have in common

  • I have done the math. When you have two groups of people running your government, you have the mess we find ourselves in today. I've heard that bull@#$% excuse before about nothing getting done if we have more than two parties in government. What have these two parties actually accomplished? They have gotten many people to believe that this is the only way our congress can work. Back door deals for votes, ie. you don't vote for this bill and I'll make sure you don't get the funding for your state projects.

The constitution doesn't need to be rewritten thank you very much. Have you actually read it? I mean to understand it. Have you read anything else from that time. Do yourself a favor and read some of Thomas Paine's work. I recommend starting with Common Sense. He told us that if we gave all the power to a small number, we would have the mess we are in today. The constitution has the ability to evolve with the people,ie. amendments. And those amendments can also be repelled to the wish of The People.

Nothing would get done. No, nothing would get done fast. Do you have any idea how long it would take to read every bill that came across the desk of every representative? They don't bother reading most of them. They have someone else read it and then tell them if they should vote for it. Most of the time, that is decided by what party it came from or what their party leaders told them to vote.

What is it about the special interest groups you have a problem with? They are just doing a legal job. It's not like they are threatening the lives of the senators to do what they want. It's the representatives that are allowing them to do their job. I do think most of them are scum, but someone has to be. LOL If our representatives wouldn't listen to the lobbyists, then they wouldn't have a job.

"broad coalitions" lets look at that shall we?
Definitions are from the Webster's II New College Dictionary.
broad-1. Wide from side to side 2. Large in expanse 3. Clear and open 4. General in scope 5. Tolerant or liberal.
coalition-1. An esp. temporary alliance of factions, parties, or nations. 2. Combination into one body: UNION.

That can't possibly be what you meant. You sound just like our "leaders". Contradict yourself with words that sound good because We The People are too lazy to think about what is actually being said. Sorry, try again.

For the record, they are our representatives, not our leaders.
