Curator Lance Fung, who has organized the Snow Show in Finnish Lapland (2004) and exhibitions at the Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy (2006), is organizing SITE Santa Fe's Seventh International Biennial launching this summer from June 22 – October 26, 2008. SITE Santa Fe, a contemporary art venue in Santa Fe, New Mexico, plays host to their 7th Biennial and will feature new work created specifically for the exhibition. Fung has required that participating artists make their work by hand either on site at SITE Santa Fe or in and around the state capitol. Additionally, Fung's selection of artists culled for the Biennial are emerging young artists from around the world and have been submitted by participating arts centers and galleries including Art Tower Mito (Japan), the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art (UK), and the Palais de Tokyo (France). Unlike curatorial convention at other biennials, Fung is not directing artists to work under a specific theme -- although, stipulating that artists make their work in Santa Fe could be regarded as a theme tied to location. And after the Biennial closes in October, all of the works will be destroyed. (Photo: Jori Finkel, courtesy of the International Herald Tribune, iht.com).
