Wolves as Pets? Bad idea.

The Wild Wolf Sanctuary in Candy Kitchen, New Mexico is rescuing abused wolves from people who think they'll make good pets but realize that you can't tame a wild animal.

    nonsense, wolves make great pets/companions.. ..i know a half dozen very well behaved grey wolves living with humans. I also know a family who raises coyotes in the hollywood hills.

    any wild animal can be effectively domesticated.. ..some just require a different kind of attention.

  • I'm sure the right person, with the right amount of money can handle it, but when the average person without money or resources or training tries it, it can go terribly wrong. This wolf sanctuary rescues abused wolves from these situations. A lot of these animals are destroyed though before anyone can rescue them. I'm not an expert, but the people at the wolf sanctuary tell a compelling story.

  • smorrisey, may I just add it's stillplain wrong tokeep an animal captive when they don't HAVE to be, when they CAN survive in the wild. Why not just buy a Cougar, pehaps a Caricale, it's being ridicolous, trut me I work with these ignorant morons, they de-claw the animal, guessing they'll be less aggresive whenb they only realize they don't have them and then become aggresive, the morons later come to people like me and want them being euthinised for thier stupidity. they THEN can't be wild.

    All of you, PLEASE, take advice and DON'T do it, just because it's still legal does'nt mean it's alright, ignore the properganda of the internet breeding them for this, it's pure stupidity.

    There's so many domestic animals who don't have a chance any where else but a home who need you in thier large numbers.

  • They say it is really dangerous... people get them as puppies but end up having major problems when they get older because they don't behave like dogs. Wolves see you and your family as competition and they'll fight for their position in the pack.

  • So true, Terri Irwin when she was in charge of 'Cougar Countrry' back in Oregon, saved a 'pet' wolf with pups from a CARAVAN! That's mad! The owners just did'ntcareanymore, she litterally ripped the trailer to shreds!

  • They rescue wolves from all kinds of terrible situations. They found a couple in an abandoned trailer someone left on the side of the road left in the Nevada sun. Some get chained up and left for dead. It's pretty sad.

  • That really does anynoy me, they are ignorent enough to avoid warningsof those who've alredy experianced this problem, and once it's happenedwon't take any open door policies from shelters to get them into sactuaries, there's no reason to let them rot likethat.
