Who are the non-voters?
The survey found that nonvoters are disproportionately young, single, less educated and more likely to be of an ethnic minority than infrequent and frequent voters. 40 percent of nonvoters are under 30 years old, compared to 29 percent of infrequent voters and 14 percent of frequent voters. Infrequent voters are much more likely to be married than nonvoters, with 50 percent of infrequent voters married compared to only 34 percent of nonvoters. 76% of nonvoters have less than a college degree, compared to 61 percent of infrequent voters and 50 percent of frequent voters. Among nonvoters, 54 percent are white or Caucasian compared to 60 percent of infrequent voters and 70 percent of frequent voters

  • Interesting stuff. How do you think we can tackle this issue in the short term? Check out this pod, too... interviews with Americans who don't vote, and their sometimes surprising reasons why.

  • What about voters whose votes aren't counted?

    Now what do you think of a voter whose vote was ignored 2000 and 2004?

    Who are those behind the machine that pushes peoples votes to the trash can? Why do they do that?

    Why do some people, decide not to vote? Are they simply ignorant or disappointed about the process?

    Is "1-person 1-vote" the best democratic path we can take? What do you think of giving poor, middle and working class people a larger vote.

    I think that's what we need to work on and not the people themselves.

  • Just think. Will it make a difference? Or will the press win this election as well......... Fin!

  • The uneducated are the ones who are a directly impacted by the failure of our politics, so naturally, they have no faith in the system.

    Of course, there are many factors that go into this issue, but that is the simplest answer I can come up with. Not to mention the whole electoral college vs the popular vote nonsense.

    I think England has a pretty good concept with a parliamentary system. Maybe we would have a better turn-out if everyone's vote--despite if it is part of the majority or not--still meant something.

  • Proud non-voter here. While voting is a right, not voting is not only a right but it is honorable in this election. Hillary = NWO harlot
    Obama = reptilian
    McCain = senile Bush supporter

  • One reason why the youth generally do not vote is because of a sad cycle:

    people going for office do not target young voters

    young voters in turn do not vote as much as older voters

    next election those going for office do not target youth voters because they don't think they will vote due to last seasons results.

    lucky in recent years the youth has been targeted more and more due to the internet being used as a great tool for elections.

  • Election day is from sun-up to sun-down on the 1st Tuesday in November. If everybody voted, it would take more then a day. We don't have time, for a higher percentage of people to vote.

    Lets face it. Our government just wants us to keep out of their affairs. They don't like supervision. We just need a way to let them know that it IS our affair too!

    Any ideas? What do you recommend?

  • More people voted this year than ever. BUt i must say if we got rid of the electoral college many people might vote. The e.c. was originally for back in colonial times when people werent that educated, though there are stupid people out there we cant keep them from voting.

  • I was standing in line at the grocery store and heard a man telling a friend that his brother was a state trooper in Florida and was instructed to make it difficult for certain people (of color - traditionally Democrats) to vote. I know this is just hearsay, buti t's things like that that make people stay home and watch reruns of "The Andy Griffith Show" instead of voting. It's not that they don't care, they just don't feel it makes a difference anymore.

    I vote early and often!

  • I suppose that could be true. An after the 2000 elections who would want to vote.

  • It's true, try if you may, try if might, you'll never make any "difference" in your life while the 2-party system dominates politics. The only difference you're making is differences in the way that the elite screw you over. It's all about the corporations and bank big shots. anyone who doesn't see that republicans and democrats are on the same team is as blind as a sheep being sent to slaughter, because that's what they are accomplishing whether you believe it or not. My best advice for America is to boycott the elections altogether, get your money out of the banks, and exercise your right to bear arms. The whole country is being set up for martial law, and when your on a blue or red list you better bet your bottom dollar they are coming for you at 3 or 4 AM. This coincides with the thousands of missing people at New Orleans after Katrina, I was told from a credible source it was a training exercise by Fema. Trust no one, including Obama or the democrats. Keep the Faith. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. - John 8:32
