Waste! Fraud! Abuse! Bush and Cheney go on wild spending spree with taxpayers' checkbook

Excerpt: "A trillion dollars here, a trillion dollars there, and soon you’re talking real money.
But when it comes to reporting on what the Bush war legacy has cost American taxpayers, the media have been shockingly indifferent to the highest run-up in military spending since World War II. Even the devastating defense spending audit released Monday by the Government Accountability Office documenting the enormous waste in every single U.S. advanced weapons system failed to provoke the outrage it, and five equally scathing previous annual audits, deserved."

Hmmm. That sounds kind of dry and technical to me. I prefer to think of it this way:

How would feel if someone stole your debit card and your checkbook?

Now imagine that the bank allowed the thieves to overdraw your account while on a wild spending spree! They bought a few dozen iPhones, a couple Playstation 3's and bought a big screen plasma TV and overdrew your account -- but the bank didn't put a freeze on your account. It just kept allowing each new debit card purchase to go through, kept putting you further into overdraft and kept racking up more overdraft fees. And let's say these thieves were allowed to do this for about 8 years. Suddenly, before you know it, you're getting a bank statement indicating that you're now $2 trillion in debt.

Those thieves that stole your debit card and checkbook? Bush & Cheney.

Only they didn't really "steal" it exactly. They didn't need to. See, when they got elected they kind of/sort of were empowered to take loans out using our name. We being the American citizens and taxpayers. Think of it as being turned into an involuntary co-signer for someone with a compulsive spending problem. It's going to ruin your credit and bankrupt you, but there isn't much you can do about it. Only it's not just Bush and Cheney that get to use your debit card any way they want -- basically everyone in Congress can use it to. They pass that old taxpayer debit card around like a bong at a frat party. Everyone gets to take a hit.

One day you wake up, check your statement and notice that someone went out and put $81 BILLION on your card. You check the fine print and see that it was for a submarine -- to fight Al-Qaidas Navy! Had it been real-live x-ray specs ordered off the back of a comic book it couldn't be a more ridiculous purchase. But there's nothing you can do about it (until re-election time anyway). If that jackhole Sen. Joseph Lieberman wants to use your card to buy a fracking submarine to battle the dirt poor DESERT DWELLING insurgents in Iraq, well, there's not much you can do to stop him.

And WE get to pay the bill.

Bush doesn't have any money. He spent it all buying that real-life flight suit he wore for his speech. Oh! And buying that baseball team. But we are the co-signer to all the purchases he made on our joint US debit card and thus we are responsible. Oh look! There's Bush right now -- stuffing another collection notice from China into the drawer of his Oval Office desk. He sees us! He's grinning and shrugging his shoulders. Awww. Look at that face! How can you stay mad at the guy? He's just a harmless scamp with a compulsive spending problem.

Quick question: Is any of this debt dischargable? If we were lied into a "war" and we didn't really "approve" of any of these charges on our card -- can the World Bank or someone take them off? Could we declare bankruptcy as a nation and get a fresh start as we sometimes allow other (ahem) 3rd world nation to do?

  • FYI: I just got a collection call here at home from the People's Republic Bank of China demanding payment on the $1.7 trillion PayDay Loan that Bush took out to pay for the Iraq Reconstruction Project (or "war" as George insists on calling it). I said I didn't know and gave them George's cell phone number. They told me that number was no longer in service and they haven't been able to get a hold of him for months. Frack!

They were really rude and kept insisting I had to give them a post dated check for HALF the amount over the phone or else they'd stop sending us oil and cheap crappy toys filled with lead. I just hung up on them.

So just an FYI that if you see that name on the caller ID -- don't answer it!

They said that they could garnish our wages. I don't know if a foreign government really can garnish the wages of 200 million workers in a different country -- but knowing how insane the latest Bush Bankruptcy Bill was I wouldn't be surprised if he put that clause in there.

  • Supercarrier George H. W. Bush. Largest military vessel ever floated. Coincidence?

  • Wow, they must really have to compensate, judging by the size of that submarine...

  • benjaminV, They are like the short puny guys with the big 4X4s with huge tires. You just know about them. When you look at the national debt you know GWB is the most under endowed President ever.
  • If a Defense contractor tried to sell "anti-terror magic beans" to a Congressman -- that Congressman would write him a check on the spot.

    Sigh.

These guys (on both sides) have about as much spine as your typical highschooler. They are so terrified of being thought of as a "pussy" in terms of national defense they feel obligated to approve EVERY idiotic war machine proposed.

"What?" exclaims the defense contractor. "You don't want to spend $500 BILLION on these magic beans to keep America safe? My apologizes. I didn't realize you were a homosexual that was a coward and hated America."

"Shut up!" stammers the Congressman. "I'm not gay! I'm a man's man! I'm straight and I've got the receipts from the Emperors Club to prove it! I'll show you who's weak. Take this check for $250 billion. Now whose the wimp?"

It's all so predictable and so depressing.

The Repubs are simple-minded warhawks and that will probably never change. The Dems need to grow a pair and stop caving in to the high school like taunts of the Repubs when it comes to our out of control military spending.

Instead of wasting all those billions building another submarine -- why not fix Walter Reed and provide free healthcare for life to our Veterans?

  • Let's not forget this:

Human Traffic Builds US Embassy in Iraq

The enduring monument to US liberation and democracy in Iraq will be the most expensive and heavily fortified embassy in the world—and is being built by a Kuwait contractor repeatedly accused of using forced labor trafficked from South Asia under US contracts. The $592 million, 104-acre fortress equal in size to the Vatican City is scheduled to open in September 2007. With a highly secretive contract awarded by the US State Department, First Kuwaiti Trading & Contracting has joined the ranks of Halliburton/KBR in Iraq by using bait-and-switch recruiting practices. Thousands of citizens from countries that have banned travel or work in Iraq are being tricked, smuggled into brutal and inhumane labor camps, and subjected to months of forced servitude—all in the middle of the US-controlled Green Zone, “right under the nose of the US State Department.”

  • When it's all said and (never truly) done, how many lives will be lost, how many worldwide friends will we still have and how much deeper in debt will the US be?
This war on terror has no fixed target and no focused outcome, except a no-win for all. The only death to be tolerated is to this dishonorable war.

  • Several people have said to me that they voted for GW because they were 'afraid'not to' because of 9/11. It's been my paranoid fear that another catastrophe will ''happen' before the election to scare the wits out of undecided (or decided) and they'll think they're safer with the Republicans (I can't believe I just said that). But again, I can't believe people voted for GW because they thought he was the 'safer' choice?

Our great-great-Grandhildren will be paying for this one.

  • "We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people." -MLK

This is my favorite MLK quote. I applies to everything, not just racism. Everyone is going to pay for the actions of the Bush administration.

  • Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed both need put out to pasture for not doing their jobs. They are Responsible for what Bush is doing and will do now.
  • But on the second part of that quote, the American people haven't really done much in the way of protests. Sure you have smaller groupings, but nothing like in Vietnam. We Americans are just too comfy with our televisions to act, in my opinion.

And to think Clinton got impeached because of a sex scandal, which doesn't really affect future generations. We'll be China's slave for quite some time.

My hope is that our economic system does fail, so we get a feel for the real world, and the fact that our debt-based economy can't work on overhaul. Knock some sense into people's heads.

  • crob, I like the way you put it. Like passing a bong at a frat party, etc etc etc. We need to get you in some short videos for Current TV and not long webcams but real live documentary videos. You have great things to say about the state of affairs and we need more than your head on the web. Peas. Jules

  • Sorry, but there's no easy way out of this one. Unfortunately, we're all in this together.

  • Thanks Julie!

I was going through George's room in the White House this morning like a responsible/involved citizen (looking for more collection notices and unpaid bills) and, of course, found a bunch hidden in his closet. I started to go through his desk and I noticed his computer was on with an IM session still up. He apparently was IM'ing his friend Cheney (I knew that boy was trouble). Here's what really irked me.

    BushMaster08: What up C-dawg!

    TrickyDick4U: Sup

BushMaster08: Dude, the citizens are on my
case AGAIN! I can't stand it anymore.

    TrickyDick4U: ???

BushMaster08: I just got reamed out for an hour because I used their card and we're overdrawn. Whatever! And they flipped out over that PayDay Loan from China.

    TrickyDick4U: F that noise, man!

BushMaster08: I was all like "I know! I'll call all the creditors right now and blah blah whatever!" Right! y can't they just leave me alone???

TrickyDick4U: 4 real! Your the Prez. They can't keep controlling your life like dat. In a few months you're outta there anyway so they can go F themselves. If they pop off again -- just GitMo their asses. Show them how we regulate haters!

BushMaster08: No, I'm outta here. I'm just gonna go crash at Rummy's house till my terms over. I'm not putting up with the citizens crap anymore. I'll spend whatever I wanna spend and they can kiss my ass!

    Sigh.

    Kids. What can you do?

  • I like that Ando_SB, all in this together... if only we could get everyone else to realize this... and perhaps stand together...
  • First they must see the LIES and who is really behind them. There is far more work to do here than meets the EYE.

The short videos are fine however the research and the editing are also very important.

PEOPLE SEE THE LIES and want to go RAMBO and that can never be the answer here.

Obama is about building up the country not tearing it down. Think of it this way.

If he were Pres. now what would YOU BE DOING

    and then go DO IT.

green community development. natural and organic food. Legal services. Or PUBLIC OUTREACH...

Whatever. The idea to make it happen.

    crob

Hits it right on the HEAD. The DEVIL IS In the details.

This is not about talking down but rather talking to those who need to understand the truth.

Maybe a RAP SONG would be COOL.

    With TONS of DETAILS.

  • This is why our economy is going to hell. It's gonna take a lot more than a democratic president to fix this mess.

Great Professor of Sociology who values the words and the genius of what could be a higher purpose of HIP HOP

    My words not his.

Simply noticed his interview on C-SPAN while multi tasking

really like his ability to see deep into things and he has seen into the words of hip-hop because he likes the music. I know nothing about Hip hop but I guess it is one more thing i must learn.

we all need to be learning something new every day.

This is how you reach people. NOT With just videos

think of them as trailers then add, add, add,

but with photography, art, Music, all coming together.

GREAT EDITING. GREAT DIRECTION. ADDS THESE elements to the mix and the end result is HD DVD BLU-RAY, converted to film for movies.

    The trailers sell the movie.

    The title

coming soon in a theater near U.

But not until U know it will be a BLOCKBUSTER.

What you need is BIG NAME TALENT.

I have a few ideas there but first the script must be

  • This is about editing and the idea of picking up ideas from all over the web and bringing them together.

Current is KEY because Current is about NOW.

The now of it is the details are all over the net.

Pulling that detailed data all together then editing it down you might need A whole series but the work is a

You are so right. It is going to take WE THE PEOPLE

It's going to take a STRONG DOLLAR and an EVEN

  • I had a dream last night that nuclear holocaust destroyed everything. It started as a rumble coming from far away, like a jet engine, but octaves lower, growing suddenly, unbearably loud, shaking us all to the ground, and screeching-

I woke up suddenly, my heart was pounding.

  • I've always been curious about what Bush will do after he leaves office.

Bill Clinton left office as a hugely popular President and went on many speaking tours.

Jimmy Carter is arguably one of our most productive post-President's and is deeply involved in many charitable activities both here and abroad.

What the hell is Bush going to do?

Right now he is deeply shielded from the media and the public -- but what will happen to him when he doesn't have a staff of hundreds protecting him, telling him what to say, etc?

I can't imagine he'll be doing any charity work or going on any diplomatic missions. And I doubt West Point will be asking him to lecture on military strategy. Nor will he be lecturing at Yale about Advanced Economics.

What will become of the President universally disliked and -- hate to say it -- universally reconginzed as slow witted and incompetent?

Bush loves being loved and he loves power.

In a year he'll have no power and probably no friends.

    It's ALMOST sad.
    crob80227
  • no, it's not even almost sad! I'm sure he'll still have a couple loyal buddies to pound beers with on his Crawford ranch.

  • LA Holly - I had a dream (nightmare) a long time ago that still haunts me - my daughter, grandaughter and I were being marched into a barraks that was once a large department store - the mood of the thing was terrifying and sad - I do wonder if we'll all be working as slaves for China one day to pay off GW's debt.

But, the real people who run the world are pulling the strings and we probably have no clue who they are anyway. Luckily, come the election, GW's strings will be snipped. Of course there's always Jeb.
