Thank you Future America. No Habeas Corpus for American citizens. The Bush/Cheney administration should be imprisoned. I don't understand why everyone is letting them get a way with so much.

I just hope that Bush/Cheney leave at the end of their second term. I also hope that the damage done by these two can and will be undone.

The only surprise is that anyone is suprised by this.

It started with the invention of the term "enemy combatants". Simple semantics allowed Bush and his cronies to create a class of people neatly wedged between those covered by the constitution and those covered by international treaties, who now have no rights or protections at all.

I can't believe that for the last 7 years,the United States has been blinded from the real truth that the Bush administration has been hiding from the public.After reading No Habeus Corpus For "Any Person" ,it shedded more light to what I already knew and it scares me to think that my own home nation is being slowly corrupted by some greed politican that's gaining a profit from it.

so is it 2008 or 1984???

This censorship will continue long after Bush/Chaney is gone. It is inevitable that the news we are given from major corporations will always aimed to push some corrupted viewpoint/ agenda.

If those are the censored stories, I'd hate to hear what the top "If I tell you this I will have to kill you" stories were.

I think its sad what this adminastration has done its safe to say that it will be a while before we as county are seen as the same unfortunatly the adminastration has also been riddled with problems.

I don't own a gun, but don't believe we should not have the right to. That's what the many dictators have done - get the people to give up their 'arms' and then mow them down if they complain about the new rules.

I just read the article "No Habeas Corpus for “Any Person” " and I am totally ticked off, Oh my gosh, this is outrageous! Someone has had their Habeas Corpus rights revoked? Who? Where is the person who has been thrown in jail and not been allowed to face a trial of his peers. We all need to get together this weekend, nay, Right Now! and go to where this innocent US citizen is being held and demand that he be set free now. Who is the US citizen being held right now and where is he being held?

We need to go to where this US citizen is being held and demand that he be released. No US citizen should have to have his Habeas Corpus rights removed. We have to go to where he or she( no one has told yet whether this is a guy or lady) is being held in prison and not being aloud to have a trial of peers, But we have to get together and go there immediately to demand who ever has this person to release them NOW!

I sorry I tire of this charade. I take it that since no one can tall me where this US citizen is being held, much less who this person is. That this is infact NO ONE who has been jailed san-Habeas Corpus. This fact is true too: that no US citizen will be jailed sans-Habeas Corpus. Could it happen, I am sure. Anything is possible. but our Sun is possibly going to go super-nova too. Let's stop that too.

1. There is no Martial Law being declared any time soon in this country, if it were people on here would start disappearing.

2. There is no censorship going on in this country, or you would not be able to read this right now. In China, they more than likely can't even get on this site.

If he said that in Venezuela in reference to Hugo Chavez this site would be shutdown and futuregen would be thrown in prison.

We don't have a concept of what it is like to "not have personally rights." One person I personally know was in China and recieved an email with a religious reference and he was called into the headmasters office and told that the headmaster was contacted by the security people who wanted to ask my friend some questions.

We have no idea what is like to not have our rights, the rights that we take for granted everyday. Some of us complaining about the government is proof enough for me that there is no problem in this country with us losing ours rights anytime soon.

Again im glad that people can say what they want about the president without some latin american-style disappearance, and yes it shows we still have out liberties. But in places where democracies have given way to varying levels of dictatorships it has often been legal, and gradual. Hitler came to absolute power slowly, through democratic routes, deals, elections, and new laws. So what does this mean now?

It doesn't mean bush is hitler, im not saying that, it simply means we need to be careful when leaders slowly take positions that can facilitate a power that is more absolute and closed then democratic. The exec taking control of state national guard to possibly subdue citizens doesn't mean we cant speak freely in this forum, but it does mean mean that future presidents have a greater ability to legally use force to control its own citizens.

That is a step in a more authoritarian direction, though it may be small, it is real. If people get too comfortable with the idea that they're rights are guaranteed, they're more likely to ignore these little steps until it is much too late. (Indonesia, Nicaragua, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Italy, Germany, Russia, Guatemala, Venezuela)

Karde - if you are just comparing the US with China then of course we have a lot more freedom. WE are democracy and they are communist, yeah. Perhaps you haven't followed the FISA rules (this is one of many criminal acts).

The Bush administration had the telecom giants spy on us without warrants and won't resign a bill to continue the program uless we give the telecom giants retroactive immunity. First, if they didn't do anything wrong, then why the immunity. second, courts have already been set up to allow the government to intercept emails etc.. They just need a speedy court approval. This FISA program is for their illiegal activity. Did you know over 900,000 people are on the "no-fly" zone in error? ARe you on it?

Why people call those who are protecting our rights as "radical liberals" I'll never know. The essence of democracy is freedom and the right to speak against the system. In fact, the right to bear arms (in my eyes) was set up for the people in case they needed to protect themselves against the government.

The Bush administration has shredded the constitution, controlled the media (rush, fox etc..)lied about WMD, outed a CIA agent, detroyed Habeous Corpus which is the essence of democracy, started an illegal war etc.... I agree with most of what you said.

The National Guard issue: I am not too sure what is all about. but

During hurricane katrina, It would would have helped if the federal government would have been in charge straight out of the shut, because they where at a stand still for three or four days afterward because our local governor was worried about who was going to be in charge of the National Guard. Because that was not nailed down before hand, our governor would not ask FEMA to come in and take control and start working. FEMA is not allowed by law to start working in a disaster until asked by the local government.

Now I don't know what was behind the bill that was signed but it could be some Katrina backlash still.

Hi Karrde - if we weren't bogged down in Iraq we would have had the resources including people and equipment to deal with Katrina. Bush doesn't care about the American People. He only cares about out doing his dad and following Rove and Dick's orders.
