  • Ouch - nicely crystallizes how many people feel about an ideology which successfully straddles the realms of being dangerous and irritating. Here's a thread on how scientology has raised the hackles of many... LOVE the pic, check it out.

  • It's interesting because it is true. I mean Scientology is viewed more as a cult using the classification of religion as a justification for acceptance.

  • the guy is ginger as well, which may be a contributing factor to the baseball bat attack.
    Facemelter
  • Wow! That's funny.

If I were to be offended it would be because our country was, in theory, founded on freedom of religion.

Let the poor, misguided scientologists believe what they want! To each their own, right? So what if it's really strange?

    aswift1
  • Right, because Scientologists are misguided, and unlike Christianity and other religions because they have their own set of beliefs, or because Tom Cruise jumps on couches? Please, enlighten me.

  • aswift1 is correct ! This is america, live and let live and it is really strange.

  • The only problem I have with Scientology are the rumors of Scientology silencing it's critics...Permanently.

  • How do I deal with an SP "fffttt! ffffttt!"

  • ROFL @ facemelter, good catch on the scientolgy ginger.

    xD

  • They've definitely used the techniques of modern marketing to their advantage.

    Gotta love those displays!

  • Scientology isn't that weird from the rest. Some dude walking on water and turning water into wine seems pretty weird to me.
    515dsm
  • Damn straight, 515dsm ... and every other religion also fires up against its critics - literally. Need I point to the Crusades, the Middle East and the host of other religious wars being fought around the world?

  • Tom Cruise will totally sue current for this!

  • This wasn't particularly funny, but nor is Scientology. Before some people go on about the freedom of religion, I would like to point out that Scientology isn't a religion. I would urge you to read into their practices before putting them in the same ballpark as Christianity, Islam and Buddhism. I don't recall ever having to give a priest or an imam money in exchange for advice.

Yes, live and let live is a fine stance to take, but only if the group you are talking about lives up to those same principles.

  • I was so close to using this comic strip as a part of my social psychology portfolio project. It would have been perfect to describe social comparison and group conflict...but I'd hate for the teacher to be a Scientologist, and i then get a bad grade!
    AshleyMaria
  • Why would you get a bad grade from a Scientologist? Why would anyone call this comic "so wrong"? It isn't offensive -- it's true.

Maybe you think Scientology is a creepy cult that steals money and kills people, or maybe you think it's a legitimate religion that has a right to exist. But whether you hate the organization or not, the cultural climate right now is such that atheists and Christians alike are skeptical, suspicious, even hatemongering.

I think Scientology is awful as an organization, but the ongoing persecution of individuals, and especially low-tier members, is really depressing. If you think this comic is soooo funny just because hitting a Scientologist with a bat is funny, I think you might be misreading it.

  • i just wish they would add a Jew, a Muslim, and a Buddhist to that comic. then it would a little bit more accurate.

  • I just have a question. Has ne 1 read Dianetics?
    Exterior
  • dianetics has nothing to do with this comic.
    donny_dark_o
  • Love it!
    kristianbrodie
  • That Dianetics has nothing to do with this is interesting. However from my viewpoint it is relevant. So Iwill pose the question again.

Has ne1 read dianetics. You guys and gals are intellengent.
    Exterior
  • Dianetics is a set of ideas and practices regarding the relationship between the spirit, mind and body that were developed by L. Ron Hubbard.

this is for people who don't know what dianetics is.

  • Scientology unfortunately doesn't have the advantage of having originated thousands of years ago, when things like talking burning bushes and parting seas were far more commonplace than in today's humdrum times...
  • Looks about right - from what I've come to expect from certain 'groups'.

I sent for the Scientology info out of curiosity a few years back. Whoa - talk about feeling 'creeped out.' shudder.

  • Think I gotta leave it to.

  • Well Christian means Christ-like...

Jesus was a pacifist, so if he's a Christian, he's living Christ-like (also living as a pacifist). So i doubt he would resort to violence!
