I am a huge fan of the Olympics, but this year it should be even more interesting, since the Chinese will be exposed on an international scale for their violations of human rights, and the Americans (most likely the most vocal critics of the Chinese) will have a spotlight shone on their human rights violations as well. Kudos to the Golden Gate protestors. Gutsy thing to do...

I can't believe this is happening right now, and I can watch video footage of it on youtube, have a discussion on Current, and send it to friends across the world to raise awareness. Technology is allowing us to communicate in ways we never dreamed, and it is time for every day people to use that power for our advantage rather than allow it to remain in the hands of the privileged few.

Part of me wants the Olympics to just be left alone but if you look at its history it has never been simply an athletic event and politics have always come into play. Look at the bold protest of raised fists during the national anthem by Tommie Smith and John Carlos in '68. Mad props for the protesters to have the balls to stand up for what they believe in, I just hope they believe in it enough to face jail time.

Stop F'ing with the torch. This whole thing is bugging me. Don't screw with people's olympic dreams, you should have been protesting the olympic selection committee a year ago. If you want to be productive, stop supporting Chinese manufacturing. Stop buying shoes from companies who have them made in China. Stop buying cheap toys on the internet for 1/10 the price that you'd buy at Toys R Us. Guess what, all your money is going to China so they can CRUSH TIBET.

While I have sympathy for Tibet and it's people I find it odd that there is more people and more coverage of protests against Chinas occupation of Tibet then their are the US occupation of the middle east.

I am not sure if we should boycott the Olympics or not. But it seems to be clear that no matter what, the Olympics will not go precisely according to plan.

We should embrace China and do our best to improve transparancy and accountability in ALL countries. Gone are the days of outa sight, outa mind. And If increases in prices of goods coming out of China inspires Americans to become more sustainable and confide in our own Manufactured goods, then so be it.

I dont really give a shit about the Olympics to be honest. But if it can be used to save a few innocent lives the I'm completely behind that. Then, if China's change in policy after the Olympics causes a crash in economy, then so be it. It would be our own damn fault in the first place.

The Paris Mayor redecorate the Hall of City with Nepalese and black mourning flags, and add on some key point of city, banners remembering people that Paris is the place where the Chart of Human rights has been created! that is strong message from Officials, not just from people.

those protestors sure do have balls, i'm sure they're well aware of the consequences they're facing and they're entirely questioning authority and stickin a big "fuck you" to them. i love it. i wish more people would join them...maybe if i lived in frisco and didn't want a master's

I love the planning that goes into these sorts of protests. What's worrying to some though is how China can continue to be so blasé in their response.

This is a great demonstration of opinion. I think we should leave stripes of toilet paper in the streets like the Tibetans do for their occupiers. maybe these protests will help the Chinese government to change and include members of the Tibetan people in decision making in Tibet. I do not see them ever reconciling with the Dali Lama, they like to demonize him every day. I think we need to go to the Olympics, we cannot afford to hurt their feeling that much, the best way to open up Beijing is to go there.
