Hillary Does What Hillary Says. Another Example of Great Leadership

The week starts with another fine example of true Leadership. Reports surfaced the end of last week that strategist for the Hillary Clinton campaign was talking with the Columbian government on Free Trade.

It turns out Mark Penn appears to have been acting in his role as chief executive of the international communications and lobbying firm, Burson-Marsteller Worldwide. Reported by the Wall Street Journal of a Monday meeting.

The Colombian Embassy hired the firm to help achieve congressional approval of a bill allowing free trade with the country — a proposal Clinton has sharply criticized.

Earlier Friday, Clinton spokesperson Mo Elleithee said the New York senator "remains steadfast against the Colombian Trade Bill," and maintained Penn's meeting was "not in any way done on behalf of the campaign."

Mr. Penn stated, "The meeting was an error in judgment that will not be repeated and I am sorry for it," Penn said in an issued statement. "The senator's well known opposition to this trade deal is clear and was not discussed."

And in keeping her commitment and word, Hillary quickly dealt with this obvious conflict of interest Mr. Penn has recently brought.

“After the events of the last few days, Mark Penn has asked to give up his role as Chief Strategist of the Clinton Campaign; Mark, and Penn, Schoen and Berland Associates, Inc. will continue to provide polling and advice to the campaign.”

Unlike, again, the poor judgement and integrity we see by Hillary's opposition. If even we just talk about the trade agreements that Senator Obama has a problem with.

Senator Obama had been making false statements and attack against Hillary's position on NAFTA, apparently having a change in policy, going from Free Trade, Capitalism and an unabashed open market, “not worrying about Americans competing for jobs”, as he declared, after he proudly supporting adding Peru to the Free Trade Agreement.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTfJmz3GWeE

That led to his recent campaign of political rhetoric where he was now down right opposing NAFTA and now making NAFTA the reason for all of American's bad economic and jobs market times.

Senator Obama joined Hillary's call in Ohio on the televised Debate, to retool NAFTA to be a Fair Trade Agreement, not a Free Trade and to send a message if labor, workers and environmental standards were not part of the trade agreement, we couldn't have one.

Concern shattering through Canada, where they were in direct contact with the Obama campaign telling them to ignore any talk they would be hearing against NAFTA from Senator Obama, "it's just polical campaign talk". It sounded like more than political campaign talk to them and they questioned how Obama could be offering assurances privately while publicly condeming the Agreement.

Senator Obama was quick to deny this. The Canadians reconfirmed it with date, time and the name, Austan Goolsbee, Economic Advisor of the Obama campaign. This was not a private job Mr. Goolsbee was undertaking, this was speaking on the behalf of the Obama campaign, showing a level of dishonesty many didn't expect. Later, Senator Obama was forced to admit the conversation took place after records of the meeting were disclosed.

Obama never explained how he could be campaigning on one platform, while making private assurances to the opposite. Austan Goolsbee is still an Adviser of his Economic Policy. I guess by him not getting rid of Mr. Goolsbee, he must be in agreement with the policy Mr. Goolsbee had been promoting privately.

Thank you Hillary, for showing excellent judgement, strong and honest character. I hope we will be lucky to have you bring this strong example of integrity, accountability and character back to the White House.

I give Hillary credit for this. However I question whether Penn's so-called "resignation" is anything more than ceremonial. I doubt his role in the HC's campaign will diminish significantly.

As for Hillary showing "excellent judgment, strong and honest character" -- that's another story, unless you're pro Iraq and believe that Hillary braved sniper fire in Bosnia and created peace in Northern Ireland.

  • Good choice of blazer, Hillary. Matches your eyes.
    stephenthomson
  • or should we say, "matches your lies."
    BurningBush
  • Burning Bush, I'd say she cares more about her policy and position and supporting what she has consistently called for throught the campaign, and that's what she did.

And, Penn issued an apology INSTANTLY.

If one wants to complain and name call without any such support, you will do so no matter what.

Sad that that's all Obama supporters can resort to. Baseless attacks, lies, accusations and name calling.

  • Just the facts SFNM…

Hillary thinks she’s entitled to the Presidency, therefore, voting is a formality for her and Bill. She was not concerned about the people of Florida and Michigan when she signed the pledge on Sept 1st, 2007 that “sought to preserve the status of traditional early-voting states and bring order to an unwieldy series of primaries that threatened to accelerate the selection process.” New York Times
    http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/02/us/politics/02dems.ht...

The pledge stated the candidates would not campaign in either Florida or Michigan and the delegates from each state would not be seated at the convention if their primary’s were held sooner than scheduled by the DNC. Hillary, along with all the other Democratic Presidential candidates signed this pledge.

    11) The funniest one: On a trip to Bosnia, “I remember landing under sniper fire, there was suppose to be some kind of greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles...,” but really I was greeted by an 8 yr old girl with a poem on the tarmac as the video footage shows.

lol Oh, I see you can't take criticism and reality on your obvious preferred candidate, B O.

I will not post a rant and try to change the conversation like you did, which Obama is famous for in never answering a question, or being his eternal "blank slate" to let others form their own opinion. . Kind of like his EXCELLENT OBSERVATION (sic) on Hardball last week where he actually had the chutzpah to respond to how he would handle a 3 am call, like a 9 11. And what did Obama respond with?

OBAMA: Well, look, I am hesitant to engage in hypotheticals like that, because...

MATTHEWS: But it has been predictable.

OBAMA: Oh, well, the--I don't think anybody predicted 9/11. And, so, we don't know what kinds of circumstances are going to come up.

REALLY? WOW, maybe we should set the Senator in a room and give him a crash course (pun intended) on government studies, excercises, war fare games, etc. .... oh, and he has 7 years of HIND SIGHT!

Like your cut and paste of attacks, I'll save from having to post all of Obama's lies and hypocrisy, so I'll just answer your attacks. OK?

1.Honey, if you're pro Union, you'd be with Hillary and not the guy who is praising the Presinot Reagan and his "trickle down economics" and Union busting. How old are you? Like Lawrence ODonnell said,

O’Donnell responds to Olbermann's question of Obama's praise of Reagain and is that smart for Democrat "I don’t think they’re that sharp".
Apparently only voters that are supposed to remember what Reagan did and stood for, is from the "real left of the Democratic Party" "you have to look at the demographics of the union and their age group, people under 40 aren’t going to be all that sharp about exactly where Ronal Reagan was"

Hillary has been a strong advocate for Unions, why she has received many endorsements, but also a long time fighter WITH ACTION for ALL WORKING AMERICANS.

    Now on War,

You're against, the war? Good, So is Hillary and will bring it to an end. And has stated she will have our troops out within 12 months, starting within 2 mos of her Presidency. Unlike B O, who is campaigning on 16 months, but secretly drawing up plans to stay, as we just learned after his advisor Powers concede "this is a campagin plan and he will not go on that". His War Coordinator is saying 80,000 troops will still be there through the end of 2010....helllooooo?

Hillary is the only candidate offering Universal Health Care...and BO, supposedly a Democrat, is attacking her for it with old Republican attacks ads. Nice.
    http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/02/01/obama-does-...

NAFTA? Hillary has been consistent and even has been sighted she told Bill C, this was a Republican plan. UNLIKE OBAMA, who uses it politically and tells countries to ignore his political rhetoric, it's just WORDS.

YOU KNOW WHAT...I just realized, you just are posting your repeat of videos and links that mean nothing, so I'm going to stop.

I see, just cant handle the truth.

Obama has nothing to back up his rhetoric and when his pollicies are opposite that, you know he's an empty suit that just is offering a "symbol" of change.

And that symbol doesn't solve our problems. Does no one learn from the "beerability" contest, they liked Bush....gREAT. Now Obama wants to be the new "Uniter". ...and history is repeating itself.

  • You’re the one with the thin skin, I just responded to your statements you posted.

“If one wants to complain and name call without any such support, you will do so no matter what.” I did not attack you personally, just posted the facts. You made it and took it personal.

“Sad that that's all Obama supporters can resort to. Baseless attacks, lies, accusations and name calling.” I provided links to support the facts.

  • Look; we know Hillary is a great leader with LOTS of foreign policy experience. She has even dodged bullets in Bosnia!
    oneparkave
  • Yes, oneparkave, Hillary is a great leader with loads of experience, not just foregin policy, but lets not get carried away, she never claimed to be doging bullets.

here is the press conference that was spliced and mislead, And Army Secretary was there confirming the account. ENJOY. The truth sets you free!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fThso6A1J1E&watch_re...

Of course, still all even not having to doge bullets and traveling the war zone and 80 countries as First Lady is uncomparable to the new Senator from Illinois who couldn't find time for Katrina victims or Jena 6, replying he "was busy working in DC". However finding time to campaign and have fundraisers at the same time he claimed he was too busy to even lend a voice for the injustices happening in NOLA.

  • “Landing under sniper fire” is dodging bullets. But, repeating the story 3 separate times is a fallacy that cannot go unchallenged.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTdWLV_0z2w

In the link your using as an example of truth, she makes the statement “…I was the first, First Lady taken into a war zone since Eleanor Roosevelt.” She is overlooking a trip to Saigon by Pat Nixon at the height of the Vietnam War.

I agree, the Truth will set you free. But it just seems that it’s something that Hillary does not want to use to get elected.

  • One lie doth not a liar make, but a consistent pattern of lies throughout a lifetime of so called public service is a fair guarantee that if the candidate's lips are moving some form of prevarication is taking place. Everybody lies. And as Muriel Hemingway said in Manhattan:

"Everybody gets corrupted. You gotta have faith in people."

    Politician
s are under pressure to lie & regard it as just a fact of getting elected. I think there is a more basic issue, and that is going to the core of the person & the general tenor of their efforts over time. In that respect take a look at Hillary's letters from college & I, at least for one, see the beginning of borderline sociopathy or at least a series of personas looking for a personality.

At age 27 as prosecutor in the Nixon impeachment procedings she conspired to deny him counsel and was fired by her supervisor for lying and unethical conduct. It goes on and the duplicity of reference gets more threatening.

I get letters all the time from feminist organizations asking me to vote for Hillary because she's a woman. But I have a problem believing she's a woman because she acts like a good ol boy, and she thinks like the cliche of a man who won't ask directions and would rather fight than seek consensus. But don't take my word for it. See this article
