I hadn't realized that the pentagon labeled the civilian killings a criminal event.
We are pretty stuck over in Iraq. We have built a huge reliance on civilian contractors to compensate for our breaking army and to sharply reduce numbers of armed people on "our" side would most likely cause the country to implode. What do you do? Furthermore, the right-wing has made a pretty good situation for themselves as we have now built these "super-bases" in Iraq costing billions of dollars. Now that they are built, it is highly unlikely that any president will abandon them due to their massive investment and strategic location. Crafty little buggers those warmongers are.

"Go Blackwater. Keep on rollin'."
War. It's still a business venture. -
Well, I suppose it's good to know that if I ever become unemployed thanks to a "Criminal Event" I can still find work with Blackwater.

Its really strange to me that they would get there contract renewed they did kill 17 civilians. Its not like the founder of Blackwater was an intern in the White House when George H. W.Bush was in office. Its not like the owner donates a bunch of money to the republican party. The list could go on forever

Amazing but not surprising. That's this administration's MO, do whatever you want in defiance of logic or moral consequence and expect that no one will hold you accountable.

They should be run out of business and prosecuted for war profiteering.

deffinately a tricky situation. i believe that another person gave jobs to only certain companies that gave him kickbacks back in the early 20th century. his name was boss tweed.
-
Not only do these people continue to work in Iraq and kill innocent civilians, they make an exorbitant amount of money doing it! The average Blackwater agent in Iraq makes $1,200 a day! This is where a huge chunk of our debt is going-paying for these yahoos so they can kill even more innocent people.
-
blackwater is about the largest waste of money in iraq. i wish that they would stop wasting on them and just train people in the military that could do their job instead.

People leave the US military rather than re-enlist because 'Backwater' pays sooooo much more. And do you know where all that cash is coming from? The same place it comes from to pay US military - you and I.

Hey donny_dark_o, I think it is important for people to note that contractors do a lot of the training of the iraqi military and are a much needed asset for success in Iraq. I do not support the contracting of blackwater seeing that they have already proven there uselessness not to mention the hearts and minds of iraqis still need to be won and what does it say to them if we rehire people that have killed them in the past.
BooksBrown, please don't make it seem like just any soldier that works with blackwater is not a hero. They have served their country not just as a contractor but 9 times out of 10 if not more they served in the military. They are most definitely heroes. Yes there are some that are responsible for the killing of civilians but do not hastily classify them with the rest. Also please leave behind any cowardly threats like the one your are making, road rage? come on.
Generally I do agree that it is not good to see so much of our taxpaying dollars go to waste, maybe not as much waste as so laxly spent. I feel that while we need to stay in Iraq to repair the damage we've done and return the citizens the right to decide upon their own government, we also need to monitor more closely our expenses and not just throw it around as we are doing now. Our debt is big enough and our economy is not in good shape. -
We should just privatize the war. It would most likely aliviate a lot of the finite problems we are having now. It would most likely be a lot cheaper, and would truly be an all volunteer job that pays well, with people who want to be there for good pay.

I met some of these blackwater guys when I served in Iraq. They think they are above the rules of war, which is why they keep killing innocent civilians without a care in the world.
privatizing would do nothing to help the war, unless you consider increasing the cost as helping. Civilian contractors cost over half the cost of the war in Iraq, all of it is like a huge chunk of fat that could easily be cut. Doing that would also give our troops a reason to stay in and not join the contractors.-
