Weighing in at 60 kilograms (≈130 pounds), this flying car travels up to 80 km/h (≈50 mph) on land, can go airborne at 15 km/h (≈10 mph) reaching a top flying speed of 160 km/h (≈100 mph) at a height of 4000 meters (≈13,000 feet).
How freaking cool is that?
How freaking cool is that?

i like how it actually looks kind of like a jetsons car or something strait out of a cartoon, on top of being freaking cool in its function alone.

I don't believe it for a minute. If the thing actually could fly why did they put wheels from a grocery cart on it? Imagine coming in at 100 mph and hitting the tarmac with those donuts?
-
tikbalang: have you ever looked at popular mechanics? they have stuff like this in there all the time. people invent things like this, but it just never gets invested in and produced large scale so you never hear about it.

Yes, it does look like it came off the cover of a 1965 issue of Popular Mechanics.
I wish it was produced but I'll have to order one with the 14 inch wire spoked wheels and disk brakes. -
A "Flying car" or a "Personal airplane"? Don't they have Ultra-lights like this everywhere as is?
Moller has been trying to develop a "Flying car" for years... They've successfully tested models BUT most of those tests involve a crane holding onto the vehicle to make sure it doesn't crash :p -
kewl, but im guessin its a prototype thats why it looks so unrealistic, but im a believer
-
The aerocar flies using a parachute. This is not exactly the flying car I was hoping for.

Thelma and Louise could have avoided a tragic ending.
I'm with Donnie, checkbook ready!-

yeah , until the power grid doesn't require lines on poles i'll stick to my jetta - however , i like the idea of being able to harpoon whales over open water - sport fishing and all that .
-
This could really add an interesting new dimension to our commutes into downtown.

Why as humans do we have this insatiable appetite to conquer wherever or whatever we inhabit. It's not satisfying enough to reside in the urban jungle we've created out of the pristine earth that was.
Don't get me wrong, it seems the logical progression by that I mean hey, where else to proliferate but the skies. It's not damaging enough that we've deprived birds of perches now we are going for their only sanctuary left the skies. As if the airplanes aren't damaging enough. -
be kewl if it was zero-pollution.
i am not really interested in anything that harms the planet.
sure back a few decades ago,, we did not know.
but we are smarter now.
--
so anything that is not zero-pollution..
well.. it simply is not kewl.
the ideas may be kewl..
but i won't buy one until it is safe for the environemnent.
when we use things that kill the planet.. it is stupid.
becasue in the future,, we won;t have a planet to use that thing on.
-- so i'd rather have a planet forever,, than a stupid gadget that will only keep me satisfied for a few hours at a time.
cause the planet satisfied me all the time.

Just a moment, lets visualize the cities of tomorrow according to the blind yearnings of today.
imagine the amount of ground vehicular accidents that occur on an hourly basis in the world. Now factor in the gross negligence and pure incompetency of those causations then try and derive the exponential apocalyptic outcome of such an era in human existence. where air cars just rain down people and homes at random.
What a world that'll be. -
true Jhydo...
like.. the government arrests people in NYC for taking photos...-- i saw a pod today.. somewhere on this current site.. -- just for taking a photo.. in the street.
-- but they are going to let people fly cars in the sky?
what?
like.. airplanes have dropped the waste from planes and it has gone through the roof tops of people's homes.. and that was done by a proffessional airline organization.
just imagine the stupid shit that will happen when the average human is flying.
-- throwing their litter out of the plane,, MC'Donalds cups laning in people's pools..
and the humans can't even stop drinking and driving accidents.. imagine the drinking and driving plane accidents.
etc..etc...e.tc.
it is just .. i dunno.
planes are kewl.. but so is walking.

Flying car is just now happening? Isn't post-2000 supposed to be 'the future'; and isn't 'the future' supposed to be nothing but flying cars?
-
dude,, that is a hillarious image of the ffuture.. just flying cars.
that is good. no wars in the future.. jsut flying cars.
i can deal with that..
as long as they are zero-pollution flying cars. -
Well obviously not SOLELY flying cars...but look back at what the "the past"'s vision of "the future" was. Looked a lot like the Jetsons...with robots doing the cleaning and computer machines making our food.
-
I love the future!

No chity chity bang bang jokes? I must be the only Disney fan. At any rate an incredible multi use vehicle, the video also says that it can travel over water as well.
-
People can be wreckless drivers, as demonstrated by the 16,694 alcohol-related car crash fatalities in 2004. So what will happen when these drivers take to the skies? Granted there is no evidence available, my guess is the skyways will prove even more lethal than highways.
-
Yeah i can finally bench press a plane and a car at the same time (no steroids needed)
-
very good project but still prefer riding the leylines on my mag surfboard like king tut..dowt!gave the game away..forget that one...
-
i was looking at the photo and wondered; how do you steer that thing mid-air?
then i saw it needs a parachute to fly, oh well. -
Watching the video my head started to ask these two questions.
1. I want see it flying! Showing me it flying, please!
2. When, finally in the end I saw it flying with a parachute and making that much of a noise, I just envision this apocalyptic acoustic war invasion and I could not avoid to say, - "My GOD, can you imagine hundreds of them flying and buzzing in the air?"
It will be the end of the human urban environment and the human life as we know it. -
This is so last millennium. People have been making their own flying machines for years now...at least the few who have the time and money.
We're going in the way of what the writers of IRobot imagined. Cars that are controlled by computer, because we're too retarded to drive a regular car let alone a machine that flies. It'll be a good while before we have start creating lanes in the sky. -
flying cars = airplanes.
