  • it's quite simple - your eyes don't focus on one single character at once, you just scroll them from left to right, tracking first and last letters and 'the stuff in between', then matching it to words you know.

  • This is not interesting at all, as yonie iterated it's all a matter of how we see words in syllables instead of in single letters. Why this is even more uninteresting is the fact that not only 50 out of a hundred people can read it...Its more like 97 out of a hundred.

  • I agree with huntre. Lately everyone has been going into articles telling us that something is uninteresting. It'll be news to somebody and someone will find it to be cool.

    But back on subject, I want to know how many of you guys are left-handed? I am and in high school, my friends and I did a project about how our minds differ (the left-handers and the right-handers). This was one of the tests we did and I flew through it. I just wanted to know if there was a correlation.

  • most people read by pattern recognition this means that the count of the letters and the shapes involved are just as important / more important than the letters themselves.. Our brains are great at pattern recognitions we learn what something looks like then we just use that pattern to decipher it again or in some creative to alter it to have a new pattern/ meaning

  • a similar thing happens with the words themselves.
    in a paragraph we don't read every single word let alone each individual letter.
    the real problems started way before this - with the development of words themselves, so much anguish, hate and misunderstanding comes from them. even if the meaning, context and understanding of the words are exactly the same.
    Huntre's got it, whos got the right to tell someone else what they (should) find interesting? we could try empathy... just a thought

  • the real trick would be using different fonts and asking people to time themselves reading the same paragraph of material in differently stylized fonts...I ran it at work and apparently serif fonts are easier to absorb than sans serif fonts...
