And he's only gawn and gotten picked for TV - that might just be the most entertaining way to earn £350, guys!
Seriously, great job - I hope you inspire others to do the same!
Deadline's April 16th 2008 - that's a whole weekend to go and spend a maximum of £67.43, have fun, make a pod and earn £350...
These guys did... -
I've been skiing at Avon before! I grew up in Weston Super Mare just around the corner!

The crusade of fun!! Cameraman Rob seems like the most dull company ever!! He barely speaks. Would have been a more interesting watch if Rob had a personality. Id rather have naff all to spend and have good company than spend a day with Rob. Suppose you made your point, should have brought a kid and swapped beer for icecream.

Just in case you didn't know the film was presented by Nicola, we added the shots of the cameraman (myself) to create a contrast to Nicolas personality which I feel works, obviously it's your opinion to think differently.
However, as someone like yourself who works on anti-bullying films I'd have presumed you would have understood there is a better approach to providing comments, like constructive criticism rather than childish remarks.
As someone that has also worked with young people from difficult backgrounds I find it's better to lead by example.
I don't think you should congratulate a film if you thought it was terrible or pat someone on the back for the sake of it but why not instead tell me what you felt didn't work and what you would have done differently and maybe I'll take some of your points on board for next time.
Instead, how can you respect a fellow filmmaker who comes in with the sort of comments you have. I think you expect it on sites like YouTube but I believe the Current community is better than that.
You'd like to think the community here is interested in helping each-other to grow as filmmakers rather than 'slag each-other off for the sake of it', something I'm sure you've come to understand through filming your anti-bullying films. -
Fun film, nicely put together and edited, well presented by Nicola. If I had a criticism I would have liked to have seen a tighter edit but it holds together as it is and doesn't get dull. Love the run up the steps to the ski slope - reminds me of Phoebe's crazy jog in Friends!

Thanks Daniel (Strange conversation),
I probably should have mentioned when we uploaded it, but the reason there are handles on the clips and no music is because it was an assignment for Current and they wanted to be able to cut it down it needed and add music etc. The film should be playing as part of the escapism series on Current TV and should be a tighter edit then.
I think Nicola will like the Phoebe run reference! -
I see - that's makes a lot of sense. It'll be interesting to see what the final cut looks like. Well done for getting the commission.

Ok Rob, time for me to be constructive. Perhaps in retrospect my comments were rash, however I was writing my comments in a very jovial fashion in a way that was intended to make my point and also have a bit of fun in the process. I suspect you have taken my comments very personally. The truth is your film failed to make a connection with me, it lacked the sense of relationship a filmmaker creates with their subject which makes a film engaging, interesting an unique. Rather than an observer capturing the experience you could have become intrinsically involved in the idea and this would have empowered the message and drawn the viewer in. The presenter seemed very confident and came across well, however the content would have been better delivered had you created a relationship carrying more creativity and energy. Your comments about leading by example are as childish and immature as my initial comments. Add to that the fact that you have become so annoyed that you visir my profile and rated all my incredibly powerful pieces of work with 1 star. How constructive. Award winning films have something about them, they make people feel. Clearly you have been consumed by your own political correctness whilst simultaneously contradicting yourself by leading with a poor example. You are not in a position to judge me as an individual and that was entirely inappropriate, feel free to constructively tear apart any of my work or for that matter the value of the experiences young people had making these films. Perhaps an injection of personality would create a dynamic within your films that is currently missing.
I hope that was constructive enough for you.
All the best in your film endevours and apologies for my rather blazed out comments in the first place. -
Kev
It's interesting you said 'You are not in a position to judge me as an individual' because that is exactly what you did to me with your comments.
As you can see from the other comments the film received not to mention the fact it aired last night on Current TV is that it has been well recieved by the majority and the guys at Current felt it was worth airing on the channel.
Please don't think I expect praise from everyone because like I said I think criticism is important, however from fellow filmmakers I think constructive criticism works better than the sort of remarks you left.
And just to set the record straight I haven't rated any of your films, I watched a few of them and particularly the anti-bullying one but didn't rate them. So if you've received one star ratings it wasn't from me.
At the end of the day everyone has a right to an opinion and you don't expect everyone to like your work or the films you create, we all have different outlooks on life and this will show in our work.
Good luck with your projects as well.
Rob
