  • Well, next time we'll know better than to jump the line.

I'm for a re-do...with "all" of the candidates names on the ballot.

  • Two candidates followed the rules and didn't campaign in Florida & Michigan and one candidate LIED on her AFFIDAVIT and campaigned there anyway. So I think what we OWE those millions of uninformed people is INFORMATION and a chance to vote NOW. Failing that, the superdelegates should just allow the popular vote, as expressed in general numbers across the country, to prevail. But the way it's now set up, fairness & democracy are beyond our reach. Next time get rid of that stupid Electoral College and touch screen machines, prosecute Limbaugh for suborning perjury and disenfranchising millions of voters etc. etc. see Superdummy's rant at:

  • You can thank Democracy Inc for our current election system. Democracy Inc is an oligopoly of the RNC and DNC.

We need to examine just how Democracy Inc controls the voting process. Nader, yes I know, wrote a book about his experiences called “Crashing the Party…” which outlines how much control Democracy Inc wields.

Just like the oligopoly in oil and gas, you get what they want to give and YOU WILL LIKE IT!!

  • EVERYBODY GO TO THE LINK AND VOTE! ! !

  • What, you mean I can't vote for abiding by the rules?

    Lame and shameful!

  • revote; yes
counting the vote that already occurred; poppycock.

unfortunately I doubt a revote can happen at this point.

  • Everybody has the right for their voice to be heard and their vote counted. That being said, unfortunately Florida and Michigan are s.o.l. in this case. Democratic officials in both states suggested a few alternatives for a revote but bottom line is there isn't enough money to do any of them. It seems both candidates and most people I know wants those two states to chime in but RudyRudell is right, we're past that point now.

Also, what's the point of having rules set up and punishments in place for breaking those rules if in the end people try to get the punishment revoked? It wasn't like anyone didn't know this was going to happen. When Florida and Michigan jumped primary dates they couldn't/shouldn't of expected any other sort of outcome.

  • I agree with devo64, rules is rules. Everyone knew what could happen.

Unfortunately, a few people at Democracy Inc (see above) in both states, decided for everyone in their state, that the primary should be moved up.

    Now that’s true democracy.

  • Devo, Pwdrskir and Rudy have this one right. A revote would be the best 2nd option here. The first, would have been Michigan and Florida following the rules. I think the third option and probably the one that will happen is for the nominee, almost certainly Senator Obama, to seat the delegates after Senator Clinton becomes mathematically eliminated from the race. It's unlikely that there will be a convention without those states represented in some way.

On a side note, How great is the word "popycock"?

  • Since they have to follow the rules, screwed up as this is, and since there is no funding for a re-vote (allegedly); and since there's no time to logistically accomplish a re-vote within the required time frame (whew - getting there) . . . and since everyone is saying that the purpose is to seat the delegates . . . another option would be to split the democratic delegates in half to each candidate.

The delegates get seated and neither candidate has an unfair advantage. The difference between the two would remain exactly the same. I'm probably kidding myself - that would be too simple!

  • Even though since they broke the rules that were agreed to they should take the consequences, it doesn't sound like enough people are going to be satisfied with that.

Chique has the best idea I've heard yet, just split the delegates evenly at the convention.

What I'm confused about is why most people think that it has to be decided so far in advanced of the convention.

I thought that was the purpose of the convention was to make the final decision, so if neither candidate has enough delegates another vote among them should be held there as has been historically done.

  • I do not get how people actually think the Florida and Michigan votes should count, as is. In September, Obama, Hillary, Edwards, and the rest of the candidates were told that if states (other the ones that were picked) held their primaries early, they would not count at all. All of the candidates accepted those conditions and said that they would honor those rules.

Now that Hillary is behind, she changed her mind about honoring the rules. If she hadn't won those states (unfairly, mind you), do you really think she would be creating such a fuss?
    jmathew
  • No. Of course she wouldn't. And Maltesetitan wouldn't be pushing this Clinton campaign petition every couple of days. Remember though when she signed the agreement, she was the "inevitable" candidate. She and Mark Penn didn't see this coming and now she wants to change the rules. It's hard to imagine her agreeing to a 50/50 split as that would take delegates away from her (if you count the flawed vote count as is). I do think Argon could be right about it going to the convention. Maybe to a floor vote or maybe just to the credentials committee. That will all depend on how far Senator Clinton wants to take it. I hope she thinks about the party at some point. We shall see.
