The man said that a U. S. senator and war hero is a better role model for his ( and presumably our) kids than a professional golfer. Why do you think that just because he compared a person of color unfavorably with a white person, the underlying motive has to be racial prejudice?

I'm a strong Obama supporter for a lot of reasons, one of them being his desire and ability to see the best in everyone and bring people together. I don't think he wants his supporters bringing up race at every opportunity.

What possible reason, other than some sarcastic demeaning remark based on ethnic background, would he choose compare John McCain to Tiger Woods? I agree some will see racism behind every shadow or off the cuff remark and that's not good but that isn't the case here. As I said before, in this situation one either sees it for what it is or is part of the underlying problem.

The Tiger Woods reference is clearly racist. It's part of the Republican party that's afraid America will no longer have the white majority. OMYGOD...what then!! lol

So, basically he compared Obama to a multiethnic, racially "black" man who is the greatest thing in golf, and arguably outshines his white colleagues, yes?

You have to think that he could have chosen any one of the celeb supporters of Obama to illustrate the comparison... it's pretty obvious he knew what he was saying.

This clip is pretty suspect out of context like this. Isn't it likely that his meaning is, "among the adults children admire, Tiger Woods being an oft-cited favorite, my children admire John McCain?" I mean, I don't think we can tell from the way his speech is edited together and presented at all. Don't be so quick to judge, for fuck sake.

Otherwise, this guy is saying that (a) he doesn't much care for Tiger Woods and (b) that Obama reminds him of Tiger, and he means this to suggest somehow that Obama is bad. Does that make any sense? I know it's POSSIBLE, it just seems a bit of a stretch.

I agree Krag, this should definitely not be given a pass, but they're going to turn their statement on the public for "insinuating" that what they said was racially motivated.
The problem does remain that McCain gladly welcomed Bolovia with a hug and a smile.

The video comes from a MSNBC news story broadcast to the general public in prime time last night. I'm feeling pretty good about it's authenticity.

What doesn't make any sense is why he would compare Sen. McCain to Tiger Woods at all, unless you take the obvious racial context into consideration.

You of course have the right to support the candidate of your choice but please make sure you know that candidate well and don't get caught up in the hype, spin and or delusions. Above all else don't ignore the obvious to justify your position and don't make excuses for prejudice.

Racism is still so prevalent in this country and obviously still on the surface. We should vote for Obama not because he is black but because he is trying to transcend these deep-rooted social problems that are still affecting every aspect of our lives in America (the so-called "leader" of the world?)

He also has an interesting history with the confederate flag...but we can save that for another day.

My state's polititans aren't much better. Our secratary of state (R) Tod Rokita used slavery analogies at an all white political rally where he said quote "The relationship between Democrats and Blacks in America is a master slave relationship. Black's are the slaves of the democratic party."

There was a funny moment that followed this one, another McCain supporter stepped to the mike and said, I will drop my support of John McCain and support who ever you want Tiger, if you just play one round of golf with me. I'd drop McCain in a second. I apologize senator but I would." I think those comments underscore the fact that the candidate was aware of the offensive nature of the comments, as the supporter was clearly trying to ease the tensions in the crowd. This is not the first racialy insensitive remaks associated with McCain as he stood by his state's governor when he called blacks in Arizona "pickaninies." McCain has also voted against three civil rights bills, and against the legislation making Dr. Martin Luther King Day a holiday. I see a double standard emerging in this race. Obama was lambasted for Reverend Rights remarks as was Hillary for racialy insensitive remarks made by Geraldine Feraro. McCain simply has not been held to the same standard in this regard.

My 27 and 30 year old sons are multi-ethnic. My father was Greek and my mother German, Scotch, Irish, Welsh, and English. The boys' mother is half Chinese and half Russian. Both my sons are handsome, strong, smart, and tolerant. They endured some racism growing up, but both just laugh at comments of the sort made by the guy in the clip. My sons' friends have been all shapes, sizes, and colors, and their generation will no longer put up with the ignorant crap dished out by the mentally feeble. Let him babble until the day he gets a clue.

Tiger Wood is a great role model for our children, sir. The reason why he is so good is that he worked his butt off. It doesn't matter if he was white, it matters how hard you work. That's at least what I look for in people.

Which leads me to ask...does anyone have a link to the full video? I think I have a pretty clear idea on the intent of the comment, but after all the Pastor Wright stuff, it can't hurt to see the context. I can't find it...just the clips.

Second, get off the road that has been built since this country was founded.

-We are no different from each, a little color here and there through diversity is the only thing that has ever made people creatively think, something this man has never done.

-He's probably just pissed because both Woods and Obama are more successful and honorable then he will ever be, despite the advantage he had of being white.
