DALLAS - Cancellations at the nation's biggest airline continued Wednesday. American Airlines scrapped more than 1,000 flights — nearly half of its scheduled service — as it reinspects wire bundles on its fleet of MD-80 jets. Cancellations on late Tuesday and Wednesday were for the very same issue that affected the airline two weeks ago.

It seems that yet another crisis is created by bureaucrats that sat on they're butts until things got bad , now the joa shmoe pays for it. . Its time to get rid of this" I can',t get fired " attitude you get from people who are locked into life time positions. thetre

I tend to distrust the official reason given for this fiasco

It's actually getting worse!
American Airlines canceled more than 900 flights Thursday to fix faulty wiring in hundreds of jets, marking the third straight day of mass groundings as company executives offered profuse apologies and travel vouchers to calm angry customers. -
Incredulous - Everyday I'm more paranoid about the 'real story' is behind so many things going on.
And my tin-foil hat isn't working anymore. -
As much as I feel sorry for & understand the plight of the passengers, I feel for the employees.
Not only having to put up with bureaucratic BS, but having to deal with so many frustrated passengers.
The owners never have to explain to a shouting/spitting passenger why his/her flight is canceled.
They just sit back & collect the cash.-

Incredulus What you don't believe everything they tell you? Now do you think they would get those nice fat bonus(BONE-US) checks if they lied to the masses.

Ouch 96 ! Pretty gruesome picture ya paint. Some of the readers out in wonderland would think that is unrealistic , but having worked at O'SCARE airport for the bird with the golden tail (CONTINENTAL) and seeing 1st hand the condition of most of the aircraft and I mean all the airlines, I haven't flown since. That was 1985. We used to sit out on the tarmac smoking cigs(before they figured out it might be dangerous to let people smoke over the fuel tanks) and bet which flight would come closest to another. We also had a strange encounter with engines falling off and baggage doors being left open for some reason the warning lights were missed or didn't work.

Binarysunset: keep your eye on the ground crew as they fuel up, load your luggage or even empty the septic,it can be funny but I got chills.

ohplease: actually, on a domestic flight after my Japan trip in 2005, a passenger did just that and reported something leaking from the plane. It happened to be fuel! Our flight was delayed 2 -3 hours while we had to wait for another plane.
Imagine if that had gone unnoticed! We could have blow up or been stuck in BFE because we were out of fuel. I wonder now if the ground crew were told not to pay attention. ?? I don't remember what airline I flew, sorry.-
